  1. Im looking for some reviews on MW FO's. I only work with soy so those reviews from other soy users would be best but all reviews are welcome. Thanks! Here are the ones I'm curious about. Chocolate Chip Brownies Gaia- this is currently on a prebuy. It hasn't been in stock for quite some time but I know some here have used it. I still have a Dirt FO blend I created. It doesn't sell well for me so this probably won't either if it smell like dirt. Lol! Homemade Cookies- This is a clearance FO. Site says it needs a good amount of cure time. How did you like it over Sugar Cookie Royal? Sweet Fig- also on clearance. Sounds like a nice sweet fig scent. Sweet Indian Corn- on clearance and I have actually tested this one. Super strong!! Did anyone else feel in was similar to Zuchinni Bread? Have you had luck selling this one at all? Vanilla Noel- site says its not a BBW dupe but very close. Have any of you used this? What is your opinion? Would this FO satisfy customers that love BBW Vanilla Bean Noel?
  2. New shop asked me to make a blue candle and a pink candle for a signature line. I use C1 soy, clear jars, and small amount of liquid dye. The wax is turning orange in both fragrances. I THINK it started happening when she moved them into a window which has a see-thru plastic shade. Not sure if she had them in fluorescent lights at some time. My question is, is this normal? Will using a UV prohibitor completely take care of the problem? GoldieMN
  3. Hi everyone! I hope I am in the right place! I am a newbie here on craftserver, and I started my candle business in September of 2021. I plan to launch next year. Enough about me and more about why I am making this thread. Earlier this year when I started making candles I really wanted to do a soy candle. I got the C3 wax and began mass producing different scents- not knowing how it all works. After lots of wasted money and attempts- because not only was I mass producing candles with this wax, I was also using one wick, then found out that wick didn’t work, so what did I do? I ordered a new wick and mass produced again the following week- and so on and so fourth, going through about 6 different wicks, all while mass producing. I since then switched over to a para-soy wax- IGI 6006. I really love the wax but I seriously can’t figure it out with the wicks. Im almost to the point of doing an all paraffin wax because I know my candle will sell for the meaning behind it… I lost two children. My daughter passed away in 2014 due to sepsis and my son passed away in 2016 due to pneumonia. I started my business in memory of my babies- every candle will be named after a person. If you would like to see more I’ll link my YouTube here. I am also on TikTok @corrinamallory and my candle page @knlheavenscentcandleco please give me advice on what wicks to try and or if I should maybe switch to a paraffin wax? I am soooooo desperate for help! PLEASEEEE! YouTube
  4. Hi everyone! I have just recently started my adventure into making soy candles. I have been reading this forum now for a few months and I feel like I have learned a lot! I have a question about using wooden wicks with 464 wax. I'm currently testing candles in a 3.4 inch wide tin and am a little confused as to which size wick I should go with. I have been aiming for there to be some wax hangup on my first few burns, looking for the wax to be cleaned up when I burn further down the container. I want my melt pool depth to be closer to 1/4" but i haven't been able to get any less than 1/2" deep melt pools at the 3 - 3.5 hour mark no matter which wick size I use. So far I have tested crackling booster wicks in the .02 .625", .03 .625", and .04 .625" sizes. I have also tested single ply crackling wicks in the .04 .625" and .03 .625" size. I should also add that when I tested a wick the next size down that wasn't as wide (.5") the candle tunneled. When I tried single ply crackling wicks the candles tunneled. The Wooden Wick Co suggests that soy candles should use .04 crackling booster wicks. .03 crackling booster wicks are meant to be used with beeswax or natural wax blends with palm, coconut, or soy oils. I have basically given up on achieving less than a 1/2" deep melt pool at the 3 hour mark. Now I am questioning which thickness wick will give me a better hot throw. With the .04 crackling booster wicks I achieve very very close to a full melt pool in 3 hours of my first burn. With a .03 crackling booster there is 3/8" hang up of wax on one side of the container and 1/4" on the other side. Since soy wax needs hotter burning wicks, am I wrong to use a .03 crackling booster wick? Would that cause it to not achieve optimal scent throw? When I tested the .04 wick I thought the scent throw was stronger but I am worried about achieving a full melt pool on the first burn and whether or not I am just burning off the fragrance too quickly. Can anyone give me any insight into which wick they think would work better? Any help is greatly appreciated! I will also update tomorrow as to whether the wax hangup cleans up on the .03 crackling booster candle after a few more burns. First photo is of the .04 crackling booster wick after the initial burn. Second photo is of the .03 crackling booster wick after the initial burn.
  5. Has anyone ever used Muddy Soap CO FO's ? If so, how are they & which ones have you tried ?
  6. Hi. I'm New to the forum and to candlemaking. Glad to have somewhere to go to ask questions and discover tips and tricks of the trade. I want to make soy candles and melts. How long should I let them cure? Also, I keep getting conflicting information about changing the wick after curing???? Very confusing. Help!
  7. Hi everyone, I am having a very hard time finding EcoSoya PB to test. I was hoping to purchase a few pounds to test for pillar candles, if it works well, my plan was to purchase in bulk amount when it goes back in stock in April. However, I can't even seem to find even just a few pounds to test. Anyone have any idea where/how I can get my hands on it? Or does anyone have any they would like to sell? Lastly, do you guys feel it is the best wax for pillars and if not, then what do you recommend? Note: I do not want to use any paraffin which is why i haven't tried some other waxes that are out. Thanks so much in advance for all your help/advice.
  8. Im not familiar with Palo Santo or Palo Santo + Sage. My sister-in-law and a few friends have requested this. Can someone recommend one please. Also, what does it smell like, does it throw well in soy ?
  9. Okay! So I have finally decided to graduate to making tea light candles rather then just waxmelt and....I am uncertain of my product. My biggest issue is my hot throw. The CT is amazeballs but as soon as you light that sucker up there is much to be desired. I am using GB 444 in a standard tealight tin with a eco .5 wick. For a test area I place it in my bathroom which is about 11ft by 6ft , so fairly small, and I don't really smell much. Maybe a medium throw. The candles have been curing for over a week so I feel like now is a good time to start testing....... Anyways for all you guys out there who have used 444 what is your advice? What should be the general scent radius for one tealight candle? Should I try two at once rather then one?
  10. hi all, i'm new to candle making and have started using C3 wax. i'm having difficulties with the texture of my candles. i have been getting rough, uneven tops and cracking. i have tried almost every pouring temp between 120-165*F. i have also tried not adding fragrance oil to see if it was causing the texture but they came out the same. at this point, i have no idea what is causing the texture. i would love to achieve smooth tops with C3 as it is the only wax my local supplier carries. please let me know if you have any advice. also, has anyone been successful with HTP wicks and C3 wax? i am using 4oz and 8oz straight glass jars but all i get is tunneling. i also get poor glass adhesion even after pouring slowly. what could be the problem? i've read many success stories with C3 but so far it has been a complete nightmare :((((((
  11. As I write this I am enjoying the fresh smell of my 'bonfire' wax melt that I had made one week ago. Everything was going perfect until I noticed my fragrance starting to evaporate off the top. I blew it out immediately however I found that this is not the first time this has happened as I use my wax melter. I am trying to figure out why this is happening. Is it that my tealight candle is to big? or does it have to do with the fragrances themselves? I was timing the wax and at the 45 minute mark it started to smoke/steam/fume, what ever yo want to call it, and now I am worried about how this will effect product reviews. The CT and HT are amazing and strong however if it all dissapears because it is getting to hot then that wont really matter. What do you guys and gals think? p.s I do trim the wick to almost non existent before lighting however this still happens.
  12. I would like to start of by saying that I am fairly new to the candle making game. Unlike some seasoned veterans I barley have a year under my belt making candles and wax melts. However, with the risk of sounding prideful, I make good products. My HT and CT are strong and I have a set process that gives 90% sucess (avoiding major issues) when it comes to production. That being siad, the other 10% lies in the look of the candle. I use soy 464 for my candles and 494 for my melts and each frost. I understand that it is because it is natural and that is what soy does however I can't help but question if someone would want to buy a candle with it. Personally I would be okay with it because I know the quality of the candle is maintained in its most principle level (the scent) however the average consumer might not know that. For the bussiness owners out there, what is your take on selling these 'imperfect' candles?
  13. Has anyone Sweetcakes Lavender & Herbs ? Its pretty pricy so I was hoping to get some opinions before ordering ? I also saw Original Herbal Essence too. Thanks !
  14. Hey everyone! I normally wouldn't post this kind of thing but I figured it soy and coconut wax would best be used by all of you. I am moving in a couple weeks and do not feel like lugging my wax with me. I have 49lbs of NatureWax Coconut 2 and 9lbs of Golden Brands 464. I live in Lancaster, PA. If interested, swing a text at 717-682-7108!
  15. Hello everyone. I just signed up to this forum. I look forward to learning a lot and interacting with fellow candle makers! Little background; My wife and I are just getting started making candles. We live Right outside of Atlanta Ga. Once we perfect making them we are going to teach our 7 year old daughter how make the candles. Eventually we plan to let her do all the candle making, coloring, labeling, scent choices, etc. So candle making will be her hobby and her business, she is super excited about it. We’ve only made 2 candles so far. Products just arrived 4 days ago. We are using gb444 soy wax, fragrance oils from Aztec(that’s where all our products came from), 8oz patio jars, and wi-767 wicks. We test burned 1 with 24hr cure time(probably should have waited longer from everything I’ve read)and not getting strong hot throw at all. We are going to let the other one cure for 1 week. We added FO at 185 degrees and poured at 135. Candles look perfect and cold throw is good. We used 1.25oz of FO in 16oz of wax(both measured by weight and not volume) We plan to test pour a dozen or so tomorrow. Using different FO/wax ratios, different pour temps, different temps we add oil, etc. We are open to any advice, suggestions, and/or criticism. We are only four days into candle making so all help is appreciated. Thanks in advance. Ben
  16. Hello everyone, I am new to soy wax candle making. I am here because I was wondering in your experience Is It ok to use essential oils in soy wax candles. I have been researching and for the most part is the general answer is yes but I am left wondering if it is even worth spending money on expensive essential oils rather then fragrance oils. I've read that fragrance oil have better scent throws then essential oils but sometimes i am not a fan of fragrance oils because some of them tend to have a synthetic smell to them. So far i have experimented with an 8 oz candle with a total of 20 drops of a mix of amber and sage essential oils, I am currently waiting for that to cure so i can light and test it. With that being said I have the following questions. Is It ok to use essential oils in soy wax candles? What is the general rule of thumb for the amount of essential oil to 1 lb of soy wax? What is a good temperature to add essential/fragrance oils to the soy wax? What is a good temperature to pour the soy wax into a glass jar? Is It ok to mix essential oils and fragrance oils for soy wax candles? Any help is really appreciated!
  17. I have tried so many wicks but not sure why the flame of my candle just blows out like in 15 mins and also I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong the kind of jar I’m using is a Square mason 8oz glass jar. I’m not sure what kind of wick should I buy from amazon 😓
  18. Hi all, I'm new to making wax melts and have even sold a few -yay me 😀. I've used both 464 and 494 and so far haven't seen much of a difference. The 464 is easier to work with and sets up nicer and after trying a blind scent test, I'm not sure if I can tell a difference in the hot or cold throw. Do any of you have any opinions? I use about 1 oz per pound of FO and have gotten good reviews from customers on the melts I made with 464. Thanks! Karen
  19. What is your favorite type of dye for soy wax and why? I've used liquid dye with success in paraffin in the past, but haven't had very good luck in soy. I've been using dye blocks from LSCS and they seem to work well and I have never tried dye chips.
  20. Hi, everyone! I found a distributor who has the new EcoSoya Q210 in stock!! I wrote a little post about it because their website is a little odd and I talked to them directly a couple of times to answer questions I had. I typed it up just to help Y'all - this is not to promote anything. DPS in Illinois. I had just launched my candle business, took a break to move from TX to NC & when I was ready to start again I realized what had happened. I've been hunting for a sample of the new stuff so I hope this helps someone else! edited: self promotion of blog site.
  21. Im sorry if Im asking a question thats been asked before but I can't find old posts about it. Anyone tried BC All Hallows Eve before ? What are your favorite Fall/Halloween Fragrance oils ? I think someone has mentioned that NG has a good Halloween one but I can't find that old post. How bout Candy Corn any favorite suppliers on that one ?
  22. Hi everyone, new candle maker here! I would love to get your opinions on wax's and wick's. I've read through a lot of the forums already and can't seem to find the answers I'm looking for. Basically I'd love to stay away from Paraffin if possible but soy is not giving me the hot throw I'd like. With my brand I do want to strive for a very good hot throw. Can you please let me know what wax and wick combo you've found best for a mostly natural, great hot throw candle? I'm using 8oz, straight sided, glass jars with my candles. Thank you!
  23. Hey everyone, hope you are all doing well. I have been working away from soy a bit and going to a coconut base. I know there are a ton of people on here experimenting with other waxes than soy. I just wanted to get an idea of what your findings are if you are willing to share! The other day I ordered the Naturewax Coconut 2..coconut 98%, soy 2%. -Obviously, they are a bit soft after they set for a day. What's the type of wax and % are you using to harden the wax. Is it affecting your HT? -I used eco 4,6,8 and some very small wooden wicks to test. Seeing as coconut takes a couple days to set, I have not burned them yet. What wicks have you found work with your cocosoy blends? -My jars I have them in are the 4oz and 9oz amber jars from Fillmore Containers As a sidenote- I ordered the coffeehouse and toasted marshmellow FO from RE and hollllllllllly moley am I excited to use those, maybe even blend them????
