  1. I have those books, too. The Everything Soapmaking Book by Alicia Grosso had a couple recipes that were lye heavy, so I remember writing the corrections in the margin. I always run book recipes through the SoapCalc, because typos can and do happen. I also like any of Sandy Maine's books. Her pictures are always so pretty.
  2. I use wood wicks from Community Candle in straight paraffin with great results.
  3. That CME looks suspiciously like a product I used to use from Wholesale Supplies called Multi Use Concentrate! And the recipe for using it is identical. I'm pretty jazzed as WSP no longer carries the Multi Use Concentrate and I miss it!
  4. Which YL blends are you interested in? I can tell you what's in them so you can cull your research a bit.
  5. I use CD 8 wicks for my 8oz jelly jar candles. If it's a heavy oil (like something spicy) I wick up to a CD 10. I also use a custom parasoy blend, so that may not work for your application. That wick is way too small. It's not burning the wax all the way to the edge. Candlescience had a good wick size chart that I found useful when I was starting out.
  6. Everyone has given great advice so far and I agree with all of it. You are on the right track with testing, as soy wax is frustrating to get good consistent results in the beginning. Wood wicks, also, can be finicky. I use them in straight paraffin, but that's what my supplier recommended as results in soy were not favorable. Maybe someone here has experience in soy. Essential oils are magnificent things! I use them often in aromatherapy diffusers but not in candles. They are just too cost prohibitive and frankly don't give a good enough throw to be worth it. I know the label appeal of saying your candles are "made with essential oils" is tempting, but it's not really lucrative. I notice no one mentioned how long it actually takes to make $$ doing this, so I'll ignore that one too.
  7. They do have Bath and Body Works dupe of Pumpkin Pecan Waffles.
  8. I saw that. Why would they dupe a frag that is still readily available? Curiouser and curiouser.
  9. Just wanted to let y'all know...I went to AFI and they have Tennessee's This Old House, Buttercream and True Lavender listed. There are also many Moonworks FOs. Minimum is 10 lbs.
  10. It very well may catch up to them. It did to a local candle maker near me who used college football logos and NASCAR images. She got sued right out of business and then some. She had been warned multiple times by folks that she was breaking copyright but thought she knew best.
  11. Another Bama person here! Welcome to the board!
  12. You can pick one up online pretty reasonably. I got mine from Harbor Freight, I believe.
  13. I add everclear to my sprays I make for personal use.
  14. I absolutely love Sandy Maine's basic recipe, too! It is my go to with different oils for superfatting if I'm feeling froggy.
  15. I use Presto pots with spigots and love them! I also set my pour pots on an electric griddle to keep warm between pours of different scents, colors, etc. I also have a roaster but haven't used it yet. Got it for a steal, but haven't tried playing with it yet.
  16. my favorite version comes from Aroma Haven
  17. Beach Breezes by BrambleBerry Sea Glass from Wholesale Supplies Plus
  18. Has anyone tried the Pumpkin Pecan Waffle from Maple Street Candles? A fellow soaper/wax friend of mine uses their oils with good results, but I don't recall her having this one. There is also a Salted Caramel on their site.
  19. I have some RRDs I've never even tested yet. Now I'll have to pull them out and give a whirl. I love my CDs, so it'll be interesting to see how they do.
  20. The Candlemaker's Store has a Victorian Christmas that is very nice. But it is more of a orange spice smell to my nose. No scent descriptions on their site, so...
  21. I got an email about this! And I haven't made an order with Aztec in awhile! Good on Aztec for being proactive and notifying customers of a potential issue on a product they haven't even purchased yet. I know I'd be wary of buying it until the kinks were worked out.
