  1. Get a notebook and take notes on every test burn. At first it doesn't seem important but after you test 20 FOs and 10 wicks.... you won't remember it all.
  2. So far sounds like a prettygood plan. Light FOs are easier to wick. Bakery fo tend to be heavy. Scales should be fine to start out. 1 lb of wax can make a few testers. Smaller jars can be testes quicler. Good luck!
  3. Peak's oils are awesome and they have a shipping sale right now. Candlescience and Lone star have good oils too.
  4. Cello bags will keep the scent in and are environmentally friendly.
  5. Pop them in the freezer for a bit and then try again.
  6. I see. I used 4630 paraffin, not a soy mor parasoy. Really liked Premier wicks. I also used htp wicks, lx and Peaks cotton. I tested almost every wick made for containers, I think! If you use Peak's FO, which is excellent, Mango Papaya is a great one for establishing a base wick. I used htp 52 in a 2.4 " jar but I think you wick up with soy. Looking at your pics, I think the Premier will be too hot at the bottom of the jar. I liked those for heavier FOs. CD and htp are similar wicks made in different countries and they both look good to me in your pics. The hangup will catch up. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
  7. It may be too expensive but I used to use the clay made for plugging candle molds to tab my wicks and that stuff is super sticky and holds up to high heat also. Even high temp wax will melt in a hot car.
  8. Absorbine Jr. Roll it on under your nose. ? Just kidding! Try sniffing fresh coffee grounds. That's an old chandler's trick.
  9. What do you like about the avocado oil?
  10. Bad Idea might put some folks off buying your soap although others may buy as a novelty.
  11. Update on this older thread: I have again tested the luxury rebatch in the shower and I just don't like it as well as the unscented shea butter soap loaf I bought from Brambleberry. Unfortunately they have discontinued this loaf. The ingredients in that loaf are Coconut, Palm & Palm Kernel oils, Sunflower oil, Shea butter and lye. The closest shredded base I can find to this is from Voyegeur in Canada, who lists the same ingredients plus Avocado oil. Any thoughts? http://www.voyageursoapandcandle.com/Shea_Butter_Rebatch_Soap_Base_Grated_p/43720.htm Brambleberry's shea base shreds have different ingredients and can only be ordered in a 25lb. quantity which is more than I need!
  12. I tried Jamaica Me Crazy from a different supplier and it just didn't not have a strong throw. I tried increasing my fo to 1.5 oz per pound of wax which improved throw but I could not get a proper burn at that percent. Some fo is just that way. I only did melts for scents that I could not wick.
  13. You can use various grinding wheels to etch glass. Google it. Most shop setups are a home assembled grinder and water like tile cutters. There some books on Amazon about etching glass too.
  14. I remember those. Does your pot have a metal or ceramic pour spout? I googled this to see if these are safe on a burner (some were) and found a bunch of recalls on the pots with metal spouts. Seems the epoxy fails and the spout is not safe. ?
  15. Sounds like an old Corning Ware coffee pot. Corning ware cannot be put directly on a burner, but if you use it like a double boiler, a hot plate is the same as the stove.
  16. Have you tried ECO wicks? I recall liking those but I could not get them in small enough sizes for my jars. However, for your purpose you may find the size to be good. Sample packs of these are available.
  17. Is the Problend series of wax exclusive to Flaming candle? Perhaps try one of the IGI waxes. The 4630 always threw well for me although it did not wick well with every scent. In those cases I switched to J50. The Problend 400 seems to have a higher melt point. This is s shot in the dark but could the FO be burning up before it throws at that high temp? IGI has a lot of R&D in their wax. The soft container waxes they make could not be used for melts. Also I don't know if a forced air heating system affects throw like A/C can as we rarely need heat where I live.
  18. Astorlite V. Great melts, great throw. Hard wax and release is good.
