  1. Ya know, after 10+ yrs of making candles, I cannot get my mind around making Tins
  2. Just gotta say that there are soooo many ways to make candles..............most of them contribute absolutely NOTHING to the THROW.........so WHY go there???????????
  3. Me too.......why spend extra $ on various trimming tools when the basic nail trimmers do the job??
  4. To this very day, I have yet to look at any FB posting on candle making. If I want some legit advise, I come here...period
  5. Having poured candles for over 15 yrs (pillars and containers) this was the 1st time that I ever had an issue with fire....just reminds me that no matter how much I may know about candle making, once we become complacent ...thinking we know everything will come back to bite us in the butt!! This was nothing more than pure carelessness on my part but it was an EYE opener in that once soot builds up on the sides of the container........it is an accident waiting to happen....that is very valuable info going forward....as in: if you pour a candle, test burn it and there is a lot of soot build up on the sides of the jar then it is NOT SAFE for the average public. After all these years, I never stop learning :-)
  6. I had a really scary incident once: I tend to take left over candle wax, pour into a large 3 wick container and burn for personal use just to use up the wax and scents. Had this container burning in my bedroom one day, went in there and found the entire container on fire...as it turns out, having layered this candle with multiple mixtures, the wicks were burning too hot, soot accumulated on the sides of the jar and that soot eventually caught fire....lesson learned!!
  7. There is no way in Hell that I will cut back on my FO's or wicks..............I may not pour a specific scent for a long time but down the road, I may want to experiment with blending............and if I have various scents/wicks on hand, GAME ON!!!!
  8. the only name that comes to mind is """"""""""""mind"""""""""""....cause I love your soaps
  9. I pour any excess wax in ice cube trays and store in baggies for later use
  10. Never used 4627.....mainly because I am happy with the results I get with 4630
  11. If I'm working with an overly sweet fo, I add a touch of an earthy or woodsy scent like patchouli, musk etc. The earthy scents will mellow out the over powering sweetness.
  12. I have a crochet bed cover that my aunt made for my Dad (like 30+yrs ago) both my Dad and Aunt have since passed away and I use it EVERY nite on my bed........I do not crochet but enjoy the memories of my Dad & Aunt. Crochet items do become heirlooms and are meant to be passed down..kwim?
  13. I use this wax exclusively for containers and always pour around 160. Any higher temp will cause sink holes.
  14. Well, have you tried it yet??? If mixing the 3 scents doesn't give you what you want, you may try layering the 3 pours...each will burn down into the next layer and so on.
  15. Hey, we have to stand up for what we see as right.............if that gets under the skin of your friend, then so be it.........
  16. Don't have a clue on how to advise you on how to use up this wax but I'd probably use it in some sort of tarts.......where wicks/burns don't come into play. ............ only because I don't have a clue what '''''''''slack wax''''''''''''is.
  17. I use the wick bars to center my wicks but during the cooling process I do come back and check on the wick's position...if it looks a little off center, I adjust accordingly..........wiggle that baby if necessary.
  18. I use 4630 wax exclusively for container candles and depending on the particular FO, I use between 5 and 8% FO load. I also use Eco wicks in my containers. I too am confused by the term of ''curdling". For 4630 wax: heat your wax to 160, remove from heat, add your FO, stir well and then pour into you container......walk away and wait for the candle to complete cool.........then test it............lite that baby up and watch to see how your chosen wick burns in the container. Sometimes, candle making can be a little scarry but it is all about TESTING....(AKA..is the wick the appropriate size for the container) Please tell us what type of containers you are using...then we can offer more help going forward.
  19. I can't see where your temps would cause any problems.........the problems will come into play if you are in WARM temps......other that some wet spots, you have nothing to worry about.
  20. Really late to this thread but what about adding a room heater to the area: https://www.amazon.com/Lasko-754200-Ceramic-Adjustable-Thermostat/dp/B000TKDQ5C/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1545275751&sr=8-6&keywords=room+heaters Something like this....would warm up the surrounding area and maybe help slow down the cooling process???????
  21. Just browsing the threads and came across this one and just have to say...........darn, we here at CS pour some amazing candles :-)
  22. I have never poured a soy wax candle..........so I can not respond to this question,....................
  23. Ok, I use a single pour wax for my containers but do run into a problem once in a while.........even tho I follow all the directions for a single/one pour wax, sometimes the Gods interfer (I'm assuming just to test me).....in trying to diagnose the problem, there are so many different avenues,....1) maybe the pouring temps were off a little 2) maybe the ambient temps were off a little while the candles were cooling, 3) maybe I just poured that particular container too fast.........3) maybe that particular container was a little cooler than others. I just enjoy burning my candles and enjoy sharing them with others...
