  1. I don't know what to think about those - they are pretty but being in containers I would be hesitant to make these for obvious reasons, fire- wick clogging- sooting in a pillar I think it could be really nice as they are designed to burn down leaving a shell but I'm not really sure how you would get the botanicals to stay on the sides - I am not a experienced pillar maker, only just started and I can't even get the tilt method down 😂 There are more transparent paraffin waxes out there as well and adding stearics can increase opacity but I haven't clue which ones those would be, maybe scented TallTayl or JC will chime in here as they are masters of the pillar craft
  2. I don't use 464 but you may want to read up on the soy threads all the issues with the soys going on..... none of them are the performing the same anymore - did you just recently run into this with newer lots? seems soy isn't burning and throwing the way it used to and it's not just a slight variation it's big time this time - I used 415 for years and I can't get what I used to out of it for nothing....changing up wicking has helped some with the throw but it's very very different now and reports on 464 and C3 have been similar
  3. HTP I would have picked as second runner up but in testing they are a complete fail when adding fragrance- the CD are actually the best next choice so I am continuing my testing in the actual jars with a skewered hole and plopping in eco and cd to see which will be my final choice in the finished product
  4. 444 - 3rd and final burn hours 1-2 and 3 and a picture after extinguished now in looking at the these results I would say ECO was definitely the winner with this wax in overall performance and the size seems right on for my jar so this is where I would start my testing in the jars and adding fragrance to see if I need to go up or down in size and find out if adding fragrance creates mushrooms or sooting
  5. Yes this was a lot easier to do and see side by side how they are burning when I chose my wicks for this test I went based off what I thought would work for my jar size just from previous experience and then looking at charts with the ROC and melt pools pieces of paper would be easier documenting as I am sitting here trying to find the 3rd burn and results to post - they are a mess in my phone 😂 I even made a album to put them in but they are not in order at all and I still can't find hour 3 on the 2nd burn I must have deleted it or forgot it all together
  6. Good to hear Flicker....good luck on the 10! 🤣😜 now the million dollar question- did you run into soy differences testing with your wax you mentioned before- ez soy I think it was? I have never made pillars before and it's funny because that's all I have been doing this week with paraffin to clear my brain of soy and now I think I'm obsessed- lol
  7. I'm not understanding this at all...my lots of "new" 415 from 2017 are needing wicking down major to the point of serious loss of hot throw, it doesn't get hot enough to expel in the air and if I keep the bigger "normal" sized wicks I'm risking burning someone's house down if they light it and walk away your saying wicking up it drowns out 🤔 Bubbly- I haven't seen this either and creamy? This is to bizarre and completely different from my results - the texture is the same for me and I would of never known anything was wrong if I hadn't made a bunch of testers with new scents when you talked to AAK what did they say about all this - I have emailed them and never got a response are you adding additives now or just straight up 415? It must have varied even more from the 2 cases of my 2017 when I noticed it was behaving different and I never bought more to continue trying- I like many others bought every other wax on the market to test and I'm completely disgusted now hearing TT's 444 difference in a months difference in lot numbers from the same supplier....I just tested over a case of that wax and thought it was going to be workable 🤷‍♀️ I don't love the coconuts and I refuse to try quantum and C3....back down the rabbit hole I go or turning to paraffin to be done with all this
  8. I didn't do the math but bitter creek has them in colors but there is also shipping costs I got some a long time ago for a baby shower and still have a couple cases left - they have plastic lids for them also https://cart.candlesupply.com/home.php?cat=1118
  9. Now that's a meltpool 🙃 Try a LX 14, it's my go to in votives with soy and they don't generally get to hot and they come in the longer length - grab some smaller ones also if you decide to try them I don't care for LX at all in containers but for some reason they work in votive containers really really well
  10. The CDN 8 is the smallest I have ordered and used maybe get the 4 and 6 at candle cocoon, make testers with a 6 and 8 to start and see regular CD in straight soy burn a touch hotter than CDN but your blend has paraffin and coconut so that may not hold true for you but they may soot more than HTP -I personally don't care for CD in anything paraffin or coconut what if you upped your soy percentage to harden the wax more and try the HTP 73 again? They may be all it needs if that is the only issue your having with a hotter burn at the end It's all trial and error with testing - charts are for a basic guidelines for a starting point but wax type and FO load play a huge role in how it will actually perform candle Looks good to me so far - the last couple burns will be the tell all
  11. Weigh I always always weigh if I add my FO to the pour pot I weigh it and tare it out to zero when my wax is ready I weigh the amount of wax needed
  12. It won't let me watch the video Your FO load is very high especially with paraffin added and that could be causing you troubles with the burn - have you tried more like 8%? I know it's seems weird logically but sometimes less is more with candle throw I would try exactly what your doing now with a 8% FO load and see if your burn improves and throw stays consistent at the end I just went to southwest candle supply and I see the CDN10 listed but not the 8... I know they used to carry them 🤔 As far as the chart there will be variables depending on the wax used but my experiences In my wax- all soy I would say the CDN12 burns like the HTP 104 the CDN8 burns like a HTP 83 and the CDN10 like the 93 now granted soy is harder to burn and Generally needs a bigger wick than paraffin so if your using a blend of paraffin and coconut which are easier to wick and soy mixed in there maybe start with a CDN8 in your jar as a starting point to see but again, I really feel you should try lowering your FO load I have not had an issue ever getting CDN wicks from southwest candle supply but I don't use a ton of them either - they are my in between wicks with CD
  13. I have never done this either in a presto I did once on the single burner and the wax was so hot when I poured the FO in it was like a blast of super harsh fumes that hurt my eyes lungs and I never did it again.... if you watch your temps I'm sure you could and just wipe out the presto real good before the next batch but then it makes double the clean up for you if you pour into a pour pot after and wait for pouring temp... I like to just use presto and turkey fryer for wax only and after I transfer the wax I then add the FO or have the FO in the pour pot already waiting - that way I only have to clean out the pot when I'm done and the fumes are not as overwhelming
  14. Me too I will wait and see how yours go first before ordering more 🤣
  15. Yes I'm making the switch to 444 I'm done trying to get 415 to work again 444 has 2% soy based additive already added in it and I always added USA in the 415- so I'm baffled I can't get my old stuff to throw and burn with basically the same manufacturer of wax adding my own soy based additive and the 444 has been performing very well with much better throw 🤷‍♀️ Must be a different soy based additive is all I can think of 16 ounce masons with this wax I'm in a toss up of eco 10 and cd 10 or 12 depending on fragrance I have been a CD user for years so I'm still struggling with learning to "like" eco but they are actually doing a little better as far as overall burn and throw....for some reason CD lately are really curling into the melt pool and at the end of the burn look like they tripled in size - they are the same wicks I've always used sealed in a freezer bag so I have to conclude soy just isn't playing well with CD like they used to....maybe from the changes idk 🤷‍♀️ You will find 444 to be much much firmer than 464 so plan on wicking up from what you do with 464
  16. I have poured the 444 in 8 and 16 ounce Mason jars, tins and maxi tealights along with a few ceramics and haven't come across any major sink holes I get some pitted or crystallized tops but so far so good I pour very cool like 100-105 into warmed containers BUT my pours have been mostly wickless, not all, for wick testing - I skewer a hole after almost set to plug in wicks the ones that have had tabbed wicks have been good so far also but I may see this as well down the road when I settle on a wick and test again - or get a different lot number 🙈
  17. CDN is basically the same wick as CD the difference being the coating on the wick to make it more suitable for burning in vegetable soy waxes in straight soy I have found CDN to burn a bit cooler in my application if I test a CD10 and a CD12 and the 10 isn't quite enough leaving Hangup on the jar and the 12 burns too hot for my liking usually the CDN12 is always a winner I used HTP a long time ago and they are similar to CD AND CDN but seem to lean and curl more burning more off center and I had issues with either way too hot or not hot enough so I made the switch to Cd having CDN as my "in between" all bets are off now though with testing a new soy and I'm trying them all again with 30-% paraffin you may like HTP better as I found cd really let off a lot of soot in a paraffin blend, the CDN is better but that could be just the blend - is the 73 too hot or what is going on with it? try a CDN 8 and 10 in comparison to a HTP 73- I get mine at southwest candle supply as they have more sizes than candle cocoon
  18. Presto for testing and small batch making and melts turkey fryer for big production candles I never used the double boiler method before but when I first started I used a single plugged in burner and melted in a pour pot....learned real fast to be careful with that as it heated fast and way to hot
  19. Trapp I think you label is fun and eye catchy not sure why your friend would go on for days over it....I mean if she doesn't like it say it once and be done with it I think it will be a hit - good job as always
  20. What is your lot number of 444? what is the biggest eco you plugged in there?
  21. I use a old stand up freezer we had for years when we bought half cows and pork to stock up meat for the year it's been unplugged for years conveniently in the room I make candles so one day I filled her up and organized by supplier well something bust in there and the entire freezer is enough to make you pass out when you open it- I cleaned the best I could and I think it was Oregon trails bugg off because the bottle had hardly any it with no obvious cracks and I know I only used that FO once or twice thankfully it's sealed but when you open it you need a respirator thinking I will do like TT suggested and put them in containers that will fit on the shelves so if it happens again it's somewhat contained and not all over everything! its in the room our furnace is also so hopefully we don't ever have a fire because it would be an explosion off the fumes alone 😳
  22. CS Just keeps digging their hole deeper and deeper .....I have decided to ditch them and it does make me sad but 🤷‍♀️ There are many other suppliers out there even if it costs me a little more for my bulk material like jars and wax I just can't keep feeding them my business when I keep hearing all this crap and my own ongoing emails with them with zero resolution
  23. No im testing the 444 as well- I used 464 way back when and I didn't care for it and 415 I'm just not happy with it anymore no matter what I do or blend with it 444 is nice but it has issues as well that's for sure but I'm getting throw and that's major at this point with soy I will be posting the final burn test on the 444 in the testing thread hopefully today- I only did 4 wicks and will be repeating it this weekend with 4 different series
  24. You should educate people on the facts of paraffin imo I am not one that agrees with misleading people on what they are buying with creative labeling even though technically you can and people do - people have sensitivities to soy, paraffin or palm and I feel you shouldn't "hide" what your selling - if people look like they are turning up their nose to parasoy explain the facts to them- give handouts on your product with true proven information - paraffin is not any worse to burn than any other wax but if you hide it has paraffin and someone has an allergy you find yourself in deep water along with bad reviews and word of mouth You could use soy blend like many others and it's then obvious it contains something else and people like me that want to know what they are burning will surely ask ....that's just my opinion and I hope that helps some I do believe your ratios are correct on that wax 70/30
  25. You use soy right Goldie? welcome to the new soy world ....soy that hardly frosted before is like no other now - I'm seeing it bad in many many soys I have been pouring
