  1. Remember this wax is paraffin. If you wick too hot they will soot. If don’t trim they get sooty. if you don’t want soot then start blending the wax with soy, and or wick down, or change waxes.
  2. Not sure about foodie as I don’t use those. Lx wick clean and tidy burns slower and less hot than htp. Does do bendy bendy. Htp burns hotter, does a lean. If you have to wick up for foodie scents I would go for htp.
  3. Here’s what I think about waxes. There are no perfect waxes. You may have to modify your waxes for the wicks. You may have to change waxes. There is no point of banging your head with a wax slab if the wax is giving you angst. There are so many waxes out there. I would take a breather get some sample waxes. You may have to blend and it does take time with the ratios and wicks but you can get I think what you want. Regarding fragrances, many of the companies have fragrances are for bath and body. Many of them do not work great for candles but they smell nice. I think 6006 is 4630 with soy. You could get some 4630 and pure soy and try you own ratios. You may find your wax happy place.
  4. Spray top with 91 per cent alcohol with ash or add a smidge of beeswax to batch. Both work for me.
  5. Molds addiction. I confess I have the wax tablet molds and I just bought two more soap molds. Sigh. It never ends.
  6. You can get hanging wax tablet molds. They are for scented ornaments. Popular in Asia they look great with botanics.
  7. Number three Waxes are available from many sources Cost You can adjust your formula Number three add your own coconut equals coconut wax.
  8. Try lx 16 - 18. Make three candles test those wicks in each. Ask me how I know. You are burning paraffin. You need to have a shortish wick..
  9. I would never add anything to candle wax. It might look attractive but it’s a fire hazard. You could decorate a box with herbs from your garden as a unique gifting and selling point.
  10. Try LX 16 make sure wick is trimmed. My observation paraffin waxes will flicker and smoke is wick is too big. Some start smoky then settle down. Some fragrances are smokers too.
  11. I like the LX in the wax also because they are nice and tidy wicks that stand up straight. Htp wick do the leany thing, cds work but found they mushroom quick. If you can buy sample wicks test them all you learn a lot.
  12. It was the new waxes that were atrocious! Wax had awful smell, had strange off white color, fragrances would not full incorporate in wax, throw in waxes were not there. In fact only a few would actually work. There are photos here that I took. The pillar blend the new one maybe was different, or they kept the old formula. I used the old waxes and they were easy to use not the best for throwing fragrance but they poured nicely with smooth tops from what I remember.
  13. Use candle Science recommendations. They recommend LX wicks for this paraffin. HTP wicks are good for super hard soy. You are getting a large flame in small size because htp is meant for different wax. Any wick will burn but not all wicks burn nice in different waxes. https://www.candlescience.com/learning/wick-guide
  14. I like lavender sage one, some of the lavenders smell like bad bathroom cleaner.
  15. There are a to. Of companies, and a ton of prices for labels! If you have a laser printer it can’t do most labels. Been using one for years. if you want something fancy pants, embossing, foil etc get online.
  16. Maybe one of the othe wax companies will buy formulas and produce some of the originals somehow. I first joined here, because I could not believe the new waxes. Horrible!
  17. What’s scary is reddit candle making thread. People making two candles then selling on Etsy. No mention of getting insurance or whatever. People throwing stuff into their candles for decoration. Yikes!,
  18. I’m telling you those new waxes they came out with were not good at all. I am not surprised.
  19. I would not DIY those things! But try these type of bases. They work really well and fragrance lasts https://www.elementsbathandbody.com/Simply-Fresh-Odor-Neutralizer-Spray-Base.html https://www.naturesgardencandles.com/odor-eliminator
  20. Very much like a chimney fire! That’s why I also don’t recommend using candle Wax firestarters in wood stoves, and fireplaces.
  21. I got this from Flaming and cannot wick it. I have had to use my hottest wicks. They all completely die. not from drowning in wax, the fragrance oil clogs up all the wicks I have tried. I made my own Smokey vanilla and wicking was fine and that’s what I’m using but the blended one from Flaming was he worst fragrance oil I have ever used. anyone us it and how did you get it to work. Will have to save this for tarts because it’s not a keeper for candles.
  22. Use mica! Titanium dioxide gets schmeary when you cut the soap! And you don’t need a heavy layer. Heavy layers might look good until you use the soap and then it separates at the line because there wasn’t enough adhesion.
  23. You could try Htp 104, 105 and go from there up or down depending on fragrance. The coco 83 will make wax burn faster.
  24. I don’t know if it matters to you but I contacted Candle Science about Gardenia going away and Asian Amber which was a dupe of a very expensive French candle line and they said they reformulated due to California Prop. You might want to check with your dupe company to see if they are in guidelines for California!?
