  1. Yes and it's amazing! Just like Bath and Body works body spray. Works great for both!
  2. Boil some water, if it reads 212* its accurate. I am thinking you're getting a false read. My pots are never heated. Room temp and about 50* in the winter and never have had this happen.
  3. I buy my base from Steve at The Candlemakers Store. It's awesome! Used it for about 15 years.
  4. You had 1.5 lb in the pot when this happened? Gosh, my basement is 50* and I've never heated anything. Mine never got that low, not even remotely close and not that fast. I'd check your thermometer for accuracy. My wax is only 175 and a lb drops only about ten degrees max.
  5. I was just going to ask what the last poster did. It looks to me like you only let them burn a very short time? Candles won't get an immediate melt and should be burned in intervals of 4 hours.
  6. That seems like a pretty big drop for just adding to the pots. I work in a basement and that doesn't happen. One of two things I am guessing... A. You are putting a very small amount, 1/2 lb or less in the pot B. Your temp is dropping a lot when adding your fo C. Your dial is at 185...but if you actually took the wax temp it is far less.
  7. Big problem here, a label can't burn/singe unless a flame is taken to the OUTSIDE of a jar. Food for thought.
  8. What wax are you using and are you using a standard mouth or wide mouth?
  9. Trend or not, I feel it's misleading since there is absolutely NO way that this can be a certified organic product as the origins of the beeswax are never fully known. I would instead educate your customer regarding the origin of organic products.
  10. I no longer work there. I went back to college a few years back and have been at a health care organization for the past year. They stopped doing them back a few years ago when there was an economic downturn. The people being able to afford the cost became less and less. They are very expensive to put on. When Doneen left the company, Rich decided not to do them any longer. I do miss them though.
  11. NCA isn't really a hands on event. It's geared largely to larger candle companies and the big boys like Yankee, Wood Wick etc. Truly you'd likely be better off as other said attending one that a supplier puts on. I am not sure the IGCA does much of one anymore. They kind of screwed themselves over the years not wanting to join our century. You can't live with a paper presence in an internet world. LOL
  12. That is plain dangerous!!! NEVER EVER burn a candle that you can't watch! Fire CAN happen!
  13. I've not used those wicks but what is the widest diameter of the jar? How long are you allowing the candle to burn each burn cycle? I never use more than an oz per lb (6%) and my candles have phenomenal throw. You are at the max end for FO load really and that will absolutely contribute to a sooty candle. I won't use scents that I have to use that much of.
  14. aluminum won't rust, ever. But tin and other metals absolutely will.
  15. I always washed my soy molds after they were clean in hot soapy water and dried well. That will prevent this. I use a microfiber washcloth.
  16. No, additives are not required in paraffin wax. I've made candles using straight paraffin with no additives for over 20 years.
  17. Yankee is using most likely a straight paraffin with no additives based on it's appearance. I got the identical look using IGI 1343 or IGI 2281 with no additives.
  18. On that note however, if I had a customer ask for an unscented candle, I'd gladly make one.
  19. I found people really wouldn't pay the price I needed to make containers unscented. Since I did mottle, most my pillars simply failed without scent. I chose not to sell them after trying once time for about a year. Easy enough for folks to go to the dollar store for a cheap unscented candle if they wanted one.
  20. Candle Cocoon has the BEST lilac, anywhere! http://www.candlecocoon.com/product_p/f_lovely_lilac.htm I've used that one for probably 15 years, maybe more! BCN lavender is great also. Smells very true.
  21. That would not affect NGI waxes in any way. The FDA does not in any way govern wax, and they have it fully made for them. This is something they have done over, and over, and over, like beating a dead horse. It's sad. I actually quit using and endorsing their products during the time I worked for a supplier carrying them because they were not reliable in terms of not discontinuing or changing products.
  22. I see one huge problem with this. Wick manufacturers all tab differently, and depending on where the wicks are tab can alter the burn. Example, a CD 12 wick from Candlewic, tabbed by them may burn entirely different in the same wax than say a CD 12 wick from Bitter Creek who uses Wicks Unlimited. So it's vital that if you are testing to compare, you are utilizing wicks from the same source or that come from the same source.
  23. Granni, what wax are you using and what additives are you adding in what quantity to what amount of wax? Universal Candle Additive as in a vybar like or universal soy additive which is not the same thing? Universal additive is a plastic and should actually in normal amounts do nothing to the burn quality.
  24. That is essentially what is being used on them here is a water based acrylic sealant. That should work fine
  25. I am concerned. You are burning overnight? As in sleeping while a candle is burning?
