  1. When I made candles on a daily basis, I had master cases of 5000-10000 from the mfgr that were labeled and I used big black notes on. Yep, really systematic. Now I just toss bags in a drawer and dig. Even worse!
  2. This is a smart a$$ comment... LOL I pay myself with my real job. I am an addict with a need to fuel my addiction with candle making.
  3. It's an element of mottle. What paraffin wax specifically are you using and what if any additives?
  4. Like Tall, I wick about 100 at a time. I use a high temp industrial hot glue (friend works for an adhesives co!) that melts in a little vat thing. I dip the wick, insert it in my wicking tool and blamo! drop the plunger in the jar and press, on to the next. I can do 100 in no time. I grab from the box and line up, wick, next
  5. The zinc core are paraffin container wax appropriate, but pretty small. Jelly jar in like a 4786
  6. Braid wicks are most commonly used in pillars. They are probably not going to be the best in containers. And most are too small really to use for much more than paraffin.
  7. You will get sink holes with that jar/wax. Pour hotter at 185-190. Tent newspaper over the top to slow cooling. You will probably have to top them off. I usually check them in a few hours, poke relief holes and do my repour.
  8. Top to bottom 6.5" 44-28-18 Zinc Core 4" 44-24-18 Zinc COre 9.5" #2 Square Braid Cotton 6.5" " " " 9.5" " " " 6.5" 36.24-24 Paper Core 9.5" ??? More info needed
  9. I know what most are. Can you message me a pic of each label?
  10. Welcome back! I too suffer from AS, as well as Psoriatic Arthritis and Crohn's Disease as well as my newest friend Autoimmune Hepatitis. Fun stuff those AI's are. Like that you too searched out WHY instead of living with here, take this. I am on Humira and have been on Enbrel in the past. It can make a WORLD of difference! Just try and take it easy, AI disease spins more AI disease, I work in health care so see this all the time. It's nice to sometimes hear that others faced the same struggles you have getting that dx!
  11. Ok, I don't use wicks from the same suppliers but I used anywhere from a CD 10-12 in my jelly jars which were just around 2.25" diameter. I'd actually say if you are tunneling they probably are from WU, and I'd recommend based on that diameter about a CD 16 to try, and you may even need an 18.
  12. Tall, I used to recommend folks that had that problem use a piece of newspaper, or two, tented over the tops for this reason. Slowing the cool prevents the candle from cooling around the perimeter before cooling in the middle. That is what causes craters and dips. Often pouring a bit hotter also helps. Tins, and containers that are taller than wide are most susceptible to this horrible phenomenon. I use 6006 and mason jars, I got it all the time.
  13. Where is the wick from? I use wicks from WU/Bitter Creek. Also what is the diameter of the jar where it is widest from side to side?
  14. I think it's going to be MUCH easier to stay on task this time with a job where I work 8-4:30 outside the home AND don't NEED to earn extra money, I just want things like a new Honda Pilot vs. Honda Accord and WANT solid quartz counter tops vs laminate. I was SO overwhelmed with over 75 scents when I quit, 6 jars, votives, three size pillars, lotion, body spray, room spray...you get the idea. I am NOT going to do that to myself. The nice thing about a limited inventory is I can have actual inventory. I missed doing small shows, ya know the kind where you'll make a few hundred bucks in a few hours but the entry is like $15. Yep my goals are different this time, to keep myself in things I can't afford. LOL
  15. Oh come on... You know how easy it is to resist more! LMBO! I will try real, super, incredibly hard! And thanks! I really kinda miss this special breed of insanity we shared.
  16. When I left Bitter Creek two years ago after 17 years, and 20+ candle making experience and having closed my personal business down in January 2015, I said NO MORE! Not gonna do it! Well, I got the itch. I can't seem to scratch it. Oh God what am I thinking? LOL I am going back into the business of making candles and soap. Much smaller this time, a much more limited line, and only things I want to make...because when you don't NEED to, you don't WANT to if you don't enjoy it. Sooooo, with this I am on a quest to find new fragrances I can't live without! This time around, 10 main fragrances with 2-5 seasonal scents I change out. Yep, simplicity wins! One size jar, clamshell melts, CP soap, Room spray and car fresheners. That is it! No more pillars, votives, tealights, lotions. Done with those. I don't like making them. Sooooo I'm back! (Yes, I am nuts!!)
  17. I just use it alone, nothing but the wax, fragrance and dye. Works beautifully!
  18. The dollar store and Walmart have the market cornered on budget candles. You can't compete with their prices and budget minded consumers won't spend what it costs to make your candle. I've seen many failures attempting the budget market. Hand crafted products aren't budget friendly.
  19. Sure you can. I personally (and this is my personal thoughts only) don't care for them. In my experience I found soy didn't melt quite as nicely, and didn't firm up as well for removal from the burner cold. I also found the scent tended to burn out faster. Again this was just my personal observation when comparing EcoSoya 135, Ez Soy, and IGI 4786 and IGI 4794. Scentsy's wax is more similar to IGI 4786 in my experience. I personally use 4786 BUT again, you can absolutely use a soy wax or a soy blend. Test a variety to see what works best for YOU!
  20. I am shocked to hear this. I've used that wax since 1999, and the worst I've ever experienced is fingernailing. Mine always came from BCN and I never had a report of it doing more than fingernailing between 2000 and 2016. It did it with all scents when it did when we tested it or not at all.
  21. I am shocked by this. The worst I've ever seen in the 17 years I worked for Bitter Creek and the 21 years I used it as a customer was a thumbnailing. I never once saw a complete mottle in that wax. We got ours from the Oshkosh WI location though, and if yours were coming from Baytown or etc. it may have varied. A blended wax should not be doing that.
  22. I'd about eat my shorts if that is 4625. 4625 should have no mottle. That looks more like one of the mottle waxes or possibly even the IGI 1343 straight paraffin. Who did you order from? Was it a full case? Or just a slab?
