  1. I have never made votives so cant be of much help in that department, however I read some of your other posts and wanted to suggest that you consider starting with tarts. They are hugely popular and you wouldnt have to worry about container size or wick to start out with.
  2. I really like the look of the cylinder jar. I have double wicked the country comfort jar but it was with a wax mixture of J223 and 4627.
  3. Thanks for the replies, yes the glass is from Hobby Lobby. I use both the 8oz and 16oz tins from Peaks. The label on the tin is something I cut out with my circuit craft cutter. Glad you guys like them. Im still trying to decide which I like better myself.
  4. Thanks Horsescents and all others who responded. Apparently here in the midwest, getting a walmart manager to actually do something is like asking for an act of god. I tried dollar general, ace and truevalue as well as sams, they dont have them here and wont order any either. geesh.. but I appreciate you guys trying to help
  5. I own a pet grooming salon and hope to sell my candles there at some point in the future. I have been testing a very long time and hope to have one of these two lines ready to go in the next few months. I cant decide which one I like better. I asked my family what they prefer and got mixed reviews. My son said he liked the glass one better as he thought the tin looked too much like "something my grandmother would give me". lol My husband said he likes the tin better as the glass "looks just like a drinking glass with a label on it", which I guess it is. Anyhow, which do you guys like better? I'd like to narrow my focus to either one container or the other. Thanks guys. pixie
  6. I am looking at the 16oz travel tins from Peaks. Does anyone know how much wax these can hold? Im thinking maybe 14oz?
  7. Can someone suggest a good Creme Brulee? I tried CS Creme Brulee and it was good but not as good as I thought it could be. On a side note... I recently tried CS Cranberry Marmalade and thought it was great
  8. Does anyone know of a supplier near chicago that carries the kerr wide mouth 16oz jars? The walmarts and dollar trees and ace hardwares all carry the ball brand but I am specifically looking for the kerr brand because one side of the jar is not embossed like the ball brand. Thanks guys
  9. ROFL, sorry Adam but your post made me LOL. Like everything else in life, there are no shortcuts to candle making. It is an expensive hobby and there is no way to by pass research, development or testing.
  10. I have decided to try double and triple wicking the 16oz travel tins. I tried single wicking with poor results. Does anyone wick these tins and if so can you suggest a starting point. I have a variety of cd and eco wicks with cb adv and, c3 and gb 415 wax. They are approx 3.75 inches across.
  11. I usually use an Eco wick 6 in my candles but would like to try experimenting with HTP wicks. Does anyone know the rough equivalent of a eco 6 to an htp wick?
  12. I like the 415 too. I've found it has very good ht (fwiw).
  13. I would not make a "burn salve" with any oil (I'm not referring to aloe vera gel- which is not actually an oil) in it. It can cause infection, just as putting butter on a burn can (which was an old wives tale). Best thing you can do for a burn is run under cool water, wrap in a nonadhesive bandage or sterile gauze and keep clean and dry. If it needs more care then this then best to get medical attention.
  14. Anyone know for certain what the embeds are made of? Are they wax? Are they plastic? I do think they are cute and would be great for the holidays. However, I'm not so sure I would want the bother of breaking wax around a unusable object on a regular basis. Also, I've noticed some of the embeds are almost 1/4 the size of the clamshell (of course its probably just on the top layer of the wax) but if I was an avid tart user and using tarts every couple of days, I would begin to think I was paying too much as the clamshell isn't completely filled with usable wax. But as a novelty item, I think they are really nice.
  15. I like CD wicks if I had to choose between the two but my first choice is zinc. They always work great for me.
  16. I bought a 9in. round silicone cake pan. The depth of the pan is 1.5in. I was thinking it might hold around 3lbs of cp base? If someone knows for sure, I'd be very thankful .
  17. When I first started making soap, I was very exact with the temp of the oils and lye water. Now, not so much. I just throw it all together. Works for me, but I've been making soap for many years. Personally, I would not want to be carrying the lye water around. The less I have to handle it, the less chance of me accidentally dropping it. I mix mine in a container sitting in the kitchen sink, so if god forbid it spills, its going to spill in the sink. DO WEAR EYE PROTECTION DO WEAR A MASK and wear gloves. I remember once, I got lax on the protective equipment and breathed in the fumes a bit. I felt like I was in danger of going into a asthma attack ....and I dont even have asthma. It was scary.
  18. When I first started making candles I use to cook the FO in the wax for about 10 min. I could never get any ht worth a darn (although it smelled lovely while cooking on the stove). Once I started adding my FO at 185 degrees, it was like night and day (my candles were finally throwing the way I wanted them to). I cringe when I think of all the money I wasted when I was just starting out ..but I suppose that is the price of learning and experimentation :rolleyes2
  19. Thanks for the reply. I did try them but they dont carry the boxes Im looking for. Thanks though.
  20. I love these gold boxes. I couldn't afford to add in the cost of a box to the soap I sell (I wrap mine in deli paper) but I would love to get some of these boxes to package the soaps I give out as Christmas presents. I think they could look very festive with an added bow. Anyone know where to get these? I tried nashville wraps and papermart but didn't see them.
  21. They are really pretty! I love the look.
  22. I find I dont have to use as much FO in my hp soap as I do in my cp. The scent is definitely stronger in hp. Have fun
  23. How would you compare the soapers choice base to SFIC? I would definitely buy your soap. I love the design!
  24. That completely sucks. I hope the show organizer does the right thing and makes sure the "made in china" stuff stays outta there.
