  1. Hey guys, I just wanted to remind everyone who works with lye to always follow safety precautions. I was mixing up a batch of cp and since I've been making soap for many years now I've recently gotten a little lax in donning all my safety equipment. I was wearing short sleeves during the soap making process instead of long sleeves and wouldnt you know it..I was happily stick blending my lye into the oils when I noticed my arm started to itch a little bit. You experienced soap makers probably know the kind of itch Im talking about. Its unmistakable and only happens when lye hits your skin. Sure enough, there was a nice size red spot on my arm. Funny thing is, I didnt even notice when the lye first hit me, it must of been the teenest tiny splatter when I was stick blending but I sure feel it now.
  2. Yes its normal, unfortunately. Vanilla will turn your soap brown and it will leave your soap dish or shower shelf brown. Ive learned to just accept it as I love all kinds of vanillas but cosmetically it doesn't look very appealing.
  3. Hi Faithfulscenter, I too like their flutter dyes. I relly love their coconut macaroon. It smells so yummy and is great in both candles and soap.
  4. So, what do you guys reckon is on this soap? Im talking about the powdery white thin layer at the very top of the soap. It looks so pretty. Kinda sparkly but chalky looking at the same time. http://www.etsy.com/listing/112037778/lavender-kisses-hand-crafted-vegan-cold
  5. Ive used NG Spearmint and while I love how it smells, its on the weak side.
  6. Every time I try to make a milk soap, the end product turns out an off white, beige or slight orangey. Is there a way to make soaps that will stay white? I know coconut milk will but I am wanting to use an animal based milk, like cream or buttermilk, cow or goat.
  7. I love the smell of Irish peat. The smell brings me back to my childhood. We would visit my great grandparents, and while sitting out in the back yard chatting and catching up, my great granfather would always be burning some Irish peat. Does anyone know if there is an FO out there that smells like Irish peat?
  8. Can someone recommend a FO that smells like moss with a little green grass?
  9. I like Summer Lilac and Honey and Country Lilacs and Honey
  10. I so wish I could smell the omh with almond one. They look awesome
  11. I have been watching karens videos for about 6 months now or so. I love all her videos. She seems to be a very lovely person and her soap is really gorgeous.
  12. Hey guys, I have been doing allot of soaping lately and wanted to show ya some pics. I ordered a new soap mold and cant wait for it to get here. I also ordered some new FO's from brambleberry but sad to say, brambleberry takes forever and a day to ship out compared to other companies. Oh well, hope you like the pics.
  13. Hi Candybee, I use both of them together. I think they both bring something to the table and no its not redundant to use them both.
  14. Just wanted to let everyone know how happy I am with my AH/RE order. If your contemplating ordering from them, do it, you wont be disappointed. I got Barbershop 1920's, Candy Cane, Little Black Dress and Carnation. They are all really lovely and strong.
  15. Hey guys, I am toying with the idea of trying another craft fair (my last one was a horrible disaster). Anyhow, I was looking at all the lovely pics of soap on etsy and I came across this display one of the soapers there uses. Anyone have an idea how I can made something similar? Does it look like its made of formica? Thanks pixie
  16. So I am looking at the soapers choice web site and they have a few different olive oils to choose from. They carry extra virgin, pomace, refined A, and squalane. 4 different varieties of olive oil not including a organic one. Since Im using it for cp soap, I'd like to choose the lightest colored one that is available. Does anyone know which of the 4 I listed would be the lightest in color? Thanks pixie
  17. Actually I have switched to paraffin. I found that I just didnt feel good when burning soy. My migraines and depression worsened and I just felt sick when ever I had a soy candle or tart burning. Sorry, that was a bit off your topic. Im not sure what you could say to customers regarding the reasons why they should choose soy. If I chose to primarily go with soy I guess I would explain that it doesnt profit the petro companies at all and is grown rather than harvested at a by-product.

    Bcn fo

My BCN must have is Simply Herbal. Its a great dupe of Herbal Essences original shampoo scent.
  19. Dps morris wax has a FO called Flower Shop but I have not smelled it myself.
  20. When someone asks how you make your cp soap, what do you say? How do you respond? I find myself explaining how I mix the lye with oils which in turn go through the sponification process that ultimately produces soap. While Im explaining each step, I can see peoples eyes start to glaze over. I get the feeling that my explanation is way too detailed. What do you say?
  21. Looks awesome! I too, love your videos, thanks for posting.
  22. I am so sorry this happened to you. The blantant disregard this supplier has for his custmers and their families speaks volumes. Im glad u and your family are okay. It could of easily went the other way.
  23. Be forewarned: Do NOT cp or hp soap Honeycomb. I threw the whole batch out, it smelled like a combination of nursing home and cat urine. It smelled so bad, my husband made me take it out of the garbage and drive it over into a dumpster because he said it was stinking up the garage. I love love love candle science but that fo in cp soap was disgusting. Another one I soaped was violet lime. It is one of my all time favorite soap scents , however its also one scent my husband refuses to use. He dislikes it very much.
