  1. Welcome! Happy reading and thanks for posting. This board contains a wealth of information. Have fun with your new hobby and glad to have you here.
  2. I just received my samples and I LOVE THEM. I will for sure start using JS more . The FO's I got were all really great.
  3. I just tried a mix of feather palm and 4627 and WOWSA! Im really liking it. Thanks Faery for suggesting the palm.
  4. That was such a great video flikroessence, I learned alot and its something I definitely want to try sometime. Thats for posting the video. You are very pretty too!
  5. Thanks for the feedback Candybee. I was afraid that would be the case...pretty but not practical.
  6. Every time I try to put flowers in soap, they rot. The turn brown, mushy and are just gross. I saw this beautiful soap on etsy and would like to know, how the heck do they get the flowers not to rot? http://www.etsy.com/listing/61589728/3-lb-perfect-rose-soap-loaf-vegan-soap Im assuming there is a way because I cant see anyone selling a soap with flowers on it knowing that they will turn into grossness in a short amount of time.
  7. So I am wanting to try my hand at making some grubby candles and tarts but Im not sure how to do that exactly. I am trying tarts first and have a grubby tart mold ordered but my wax is so smooth and shiny. How do I take the shine off to make it look grubby? The mold is kinda bumpy but I dont think that will help with the shine. The grubby candles and melts that I have seen almost seem to have a light dusting of powder on them.
  8. Oh wow, I never heard of that before. She must have got confused between sentsy and yankme but Im really surprised she was right. I thought the word tart was a very general term...not something that could be trademarked. Thanks for the info.
  9. A candle friend of mine is under the impression that Scentsy owns the word "tart". She thinks that all other candle and tart makers must use the word "melts" (or some other word) to describe their tarts/melts. She told me scentsy trademarked the word tarts. Is that true? Has anyone else ever heard of that?
  10. Ive never made any grubby candles or tarts, I'd like to try and figure I'll start with tarts first. Can someone direct me to a supplier of grubby tart molds? Thanks guys
  11. I am a groomer and we NEVER put sprays or colognes on cats. Dogs usually dont lick their fur like cats. If they do, it usually their lower legs or feet, (occasionally above the tail) but its not the norm. The spray or cologne is lightly sprayed on a dogs withers (were their neck meets their back).
  12. The formula I had always heard is a little different than what horsescents is. I heard cost x 3 = wholesale, and wholesale x 2 = retail.
  13. I really don't think it is fair to say one is "greener" or more environmentally friendly than the other. You can find positive reasons to use soy, palm or paraffin. And if you look at the flip side, I think you can find harmful facts regarding the use off all three as well. To think otherwise is naive. For example, here are some of the reasons why soy is harmful to us and the environment, and the communities where it is grown: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/03/opinion/paraguays-destructive-soy-boom.html?_r=0 http://books.google.com/books/about/Stolen_Harvest.html?id=S6TjbOz0z68C http://mrzine.monthlyreview.org/2012/dangl170712p.html http://www.amazon.com/Whole-Soy-Story-Americas-Favorite/dp/0967089751/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1349746794&sr=1-1&keywords=the+whole+soy+story I could list articles outlining reasons why the use of palm or paraffin is bad, but I'm not going to, I think you get my point. I make candles out of palm, paraffin and soy and love all 3 for their unique characteristics but am not fooled for a second into thinking that one is "greener" than the other.
  14. Just thinking out loud here but if its a very hard paraffin wax, I wonder do the tarts even melt in a scentsy warmer?
  15. I love the look of these votives and would like to make similar but is it safe to burn voitives with flowers and herbs on them like in the following picture?
  16. Anyone know who carries glass glow the cheapest? I wanted to order from aztek but they only sell cases of it where I only need 5-10lbs of it.
  17. Id like to try 464 in a regular 16oz ball canning jar. Can someone recommend a wick size? 464 is not the wax I use regularly so am trying to get a rough idea of where to start. I have eco's, zincs, cd's and premiers. Thanks guys
  18. Very pretty! The looks so nice a shiny, I love them.
  19. If you use the 464 for tarts, you should probably mix it with a harder wax.
  20. Welcome back and I agree, fall is the best time to get your creative candle juices flowing.
  21. Ahahahah! I love it! I own a small business (pet grooming salon) and I feel like slapping a customer probably once a week. Dont let it get to you. Some people (meaning alot of people) are just weird or unreasonable. You have to expect a certain amount of that when you are dealing with the public.
  22. Hi Mzphee, I too am in Illinois, but more near Chicago. Im wishing you the best and hope you sell so much you have to restock early! Best of luck to you pixie
  23. Ooh, that sounds good FaithfulScenter. Is the Easter Bunny Burps at Peak too?
