  1. @candlecraftshop yeah a 72 or 83 might work if your inner diameter is about 3” aren’t the pineapples kind of shallow? I’ve never seen one in person. Are you adamant about just HTP? Paper core was awesome.
  2. @TallTayl You are totally my kind of person. Thanks for posting that. @birdcharm I have some pre-tabbed RRD wicks at home I will look to see if I notice anything that gives me a hint of the direction. I think the wax coat might hinder that view though. Also, do you wax your raw wick or use as is? That might be a silly question. I almost bought a spool of raw paper core wick but got intimidated. For now sample packs are fine. Hopefully down the road if I find a wick that ends up being my go to, you would be willing to let me pick your brain.
  3. @jmspgh I agree they are pricey. I went and looked after I posted. But that is with the lids included. They might have removed the free shipping over a certain amount too. So are you just testing in the Nova jars because I have testing notes on those. I have 2 more testers in Nova that are ready to start wick testing.
  4. Sixteenseventeen.com I got the wicks from. I love the wax. I’ve also had luck with zinc and paper core wicks. I haven’t jumped on that HSPS bandwagon just yet. I have too many wick types on hand I have still haven’t tested. This weekend my goal is to pour 3 half full testers using Zinc, paper core, and CDN to compare since I had success with those recently. If you like the parasoys I actually liked Joywax. 6006 I didn’t care for until I mixed coco apricot in it.
  5. Yeah if its a 3” diameter HTP-83 maybe even a 72 would be good. Ive only seen pictures of those it seems bigger that 3inches. Maybe because I’ve seen a lot of people double wick them? @jmspgh You lucked out with the lids being out of stock. The Nova jars are really nice but the lids OOF! I wouldn’t even call it a lid just a plastic disc that loosely sits on top. I gave them to someone for free who was looking for them. Look at Sixteenseventeen.com for nice jars comparable to Dream Vessels maybe better. I have a ton of jars I got for a killer deal so I’m not looking but I like their look and if I was looking I would go there. They are Based out of San Francisco, CA owner is extremely nice, I think they offer free shipping over a certain amount too.
  6. 2 more Coconut Apricot pan tests HTP, LX, PREMIER 700 SERIES, PK, CD, ZINC that zinc wick was from a pre wicked jar so i don't know the size But wanted to see how it performed Also when burning these it was like purifying the air. I absolutely loved the wax burning without FO Any tips for future tests? I have more types of wicks since I made these. I dont know why I didn’t space the sizes out more on HTP and CD
  7. I made a candle with 6006 mixed with coco apricot and got a killer HT in a small 1.5oz votive. I added the coconut to make the 6006 creamier and help with the sinkholes and adhesion. I didn’t stick with it because I wanted to just stick with one wax and not have to worry about getting it from different places. I just got some microcrystalline wax from Swans last weekend and was going to play with but for my wax melts. Instead of the Vaseline you can also try Crisco shortening. I think they suggest 1oz a lb to help with creaminess. That’s only what I have come across in my research though and haven’t tried it myself. I have been on a huge additive kick myself have a base 130MP and 140MP paraffin to play with. So I feel like a scientist.
  8. @ErronB How did you do with the adjustments heating and pouring temps? CD wicks are good but you need to stick to the smaller sizes like CD-2 and 3. If you like the CD’s I would highly recommend the CDN series also in the smaller sizes. These I have been told burn a little cooler than the CD wicks. I have not had them for long so my testing has not been extensive but the ones I have tried have been excellent and am excited to continue playing with these. I haven’t been able to make many testing candles on the count I had major surgery early Sept. so its been a LOOONNG healing process. So haven’t been able to make a lot of testers.
  9. Is the jar straight sided? FO Percentage? What other wicks have you tried and why didn’t they work? How long have you let cure? Try an HTP-72 and possibly an HTP-83 test half filled jars to see how they perform for you at the half way mark before you do a full jar test. That should be a good starting point for that diameter.
  10. @TallTaylYeah I’ve seen pictures with like an inch melt pool on a first burn and I’m like NO! I think they see these things with BBW candles and try and go by that. I would get huge melt pools and the jars were so hot. I have a 3 wick somewhere that was way too strong maybe I’ll light it and perform my first wickotomy.
  11. @Kevin Fischer I came across your site last week as I was researching and found your articles very easy to read and very informative. So thank you for taking the time to do that. I agree with @TallTaylon getting the word out about some of those mentioned. I’m curious about the double wick trend you speak of. I double wick but my jar is over 4” diameter. Are you talking about the people that double wick really small containers? I ended up leaving all the FB groups. It was too much.
  12. @TallTayl Thank you for sharing the visual for your batch number and the breakdown. I currently have 3 different places I record all my testing and I am trying to condense it into 1
  13. Not all the suppliers sell diluted fragrances that was just one example of something some of the smaller suppliers might do to cut their own costs. I have purchased from Bulk Apothecary and I get a killer HT just using 5%. They are really pricey though and that is most likely why. I also believe that Natures Garden does not dilute their FO's. They claim it but I do not know how that is regulated. If you want to make sure your fragrance is undiluted you would need to go directly to a perfume manufacturer. https://www.agilexfragrances.com/ Here is one example off the top of my head. I am not familiar with costs or the process so I am of no help there but this is one example. For shipping like @strugglebrother mentioned you can get quotes from multiple companies that do domestic LTL's (Less than loads - doesn't fill an entire truck) and work that out with the supplier. I can get you names from my warehouse manager if you want and try and help you get some quotes. I do International shipments so my contacts are different. My warehouse manager sets up pallets from AZ to our other warehouse in NC and vise versa all the time. I know you were interested in Coconut Apricot even though it has the longer cure time you do not like but Calwax their manufacturer is right here in Phoenix. MOQ is 500lbs and you can bring your own truck to pick up. https://calwax.com/product/candle-waxes/ If you want a little wax to try I would be more than happy to share with you and some wicks I have been having good luck with. It would be nice to have a candle buddy that uses the same wax. I can also give you my contact at Calwax's e-mail address and maybe they do samples of all their wax types. It would not hurt to ask.
  14. @Daisymay66 I know its late but I just saw this. I couldn't find the note break down but this is as close as I could get straight from an old catalog online. There were a lot of changes going on but I know of one of the manufacturers they got FO's from.
  15. I do not know what wax you use but sometimes its just unavoidable. I would utilize the search bar in the top right corner and search your wax type and different variations like wet spots, air spots etc and you should be able to see different answers that hopefully will help.
  16. So I work for a bicycle accessory manufacturer and I handle logistics, purchasing, vendor relations, inventory and a bunch of other fun hats. Now last couple of years you might have heard about Trump increasing tariffs/duties on goods from China. For some reason some people thought that was Trump charging China. Anyways any goods that come from any country goes through customs and products are categorized under their appropriate HTS code. Well different codes have different % of taxes (duties) to be paid for us having them imported to us. Well Trumps increases made it so a product that would normally have a 3.7% duty now would have an additional 15% on top of that. So something that costs you $100 when you imported before the increase you paid $103.70 with the increase it now costs you $118.70. This is not including customs broker fees or shipping. Well no one is just ordering $100 worth of stuff there are usually MOQs and MOAs you have to meet. So most likely your shipments are going to be Around $100,000 Now to make it easier let’s say that shipment is all the same item so it’s categorized under the same HTS code per my example above so originally your taxes to import this is $3,700 but with the additional tariff you now pay $18,700 in just the taxes to US customs. Normal processing time from when I sent the vendor the Purchase order and the Time it got delivered to our warehouse would be 90-120 days. That’s a smaller lead time. Well that was just some products. Some even got exclusions. Well let me tell you that a HUGE amount of goods got a lovely 25% additional duty. So now that $100 product is $128.70. Not only did this put some smaller businesses out of business but trying to scramble to have an entire factory moved or trying to find a country where they can create a comparable product without losing its integrity Well that’s only going to take more time. Then COVID hit Jan 2020 in China just right after their Chinese New Year where everyone takes weeks off. Well no one could go back to the factories. I had POs from DEC 2019 that I didn’t start receiving until May/June 2020 And they were mostly partial shipments. With this also came shipping issues. Vessels had been packed with people trying to get product imported before the tariffs went into effect so prices peaked. Then when nothing was being produced because of COVID shipping liners were loosing money and couldn’t sail if they couldn’t get containers on their ships. So expect it to get even worse and quality to go down and extreme delays. That 90-120 day lead time is now about 120-210 days lead time and that’s not just out of China. A lot of our stuff we don’t even put on the website because as soon as it hits our warehouse. It’s right back out the door. No one has ever seen anything like this the US dollar is not as strong right now so I’m seeing price increases outside of China. I got pretty good at categorizing products and I looked once for candle jars but don’t remember the duties. And they have to be categorized correctly otherwise it’s a HUGE deal if you get caught.
  17. What % FO load did you try? Yeah I can't get rid of the fuel smell. However my boyfriend enjoys it since he is a car racing fan. The Formula 1 candle! I only have the Silky Vanilla from NG. Shipping costs from Ohio are high to Phoenix so I am going to wait until I need to load up on FO's again. Which might be a while.
  18. I came home to my other half burning a half full 26oz candle on the coffee table with black smoke, high flames, and the upper half of the jar was black. I'm like "Do you not see this, this looks OK to continue burning?" This was before I started making candles but I was aware of candle care. So I told him that wicks always needed to be trimmed and what that candle was doing is opposite of what you wanted it to be doing. I keep wick trimmers and wick dippers around the house. Now when i'm testing he can look at a candle and tell me if it needs to wick up or wick down or he will announce the HT.
  19. Were you ever able to make the palm candles to test out?
  20. Yes I tried the FO from Aztec as well and in 3 different waxes. However I do have significantly more types of wicks than I did before when I originally tested Aztec. I needed a break from that FO for a while. I was too focused on it. However, my recent test with 2 different FO's I have been able to find a few great wicks that can now be tested with the wicks set in the containers. So maybe it was a blessing in disguise trying to wick this FO. So now that I know that I can create some good wick/wax combos. It might be time for me to slowly re-introduce myself to the FO. The plan is to make a few different testers in a straight sided jar just under 3" diameter and I am going to use only 3% FO because at this point I just want it to actually smell like its supposed to maybe my issue was 6% and 8% were too much. 1. Coco Apricot wax 100% w/ 3% Fruity rings 2. Coco Apricot wax 100% w/ 2.5% Fruity Rings and .5% Silky Vanilla 3. Coco Apricot wax 95% + Paraffin 130MP base wax 5% w/ 3% Fruity Rings 4. Coco Apricot wax 95% + Stearic Acid (Vegetable) 5% w/ 3% Fruity Rings I will see what happens there. I have some additives coming soon hopefully one of them being W-445 Microcrystaline wax maybe when I get that one in I will do a tester with .5%. I ordered this to play with a molded wax formula maybe it can work here as well.
  21. Yes I am interested as well. We all know that Zinc burns the coolest. Has anyone ever used a J or K Type thermocouple to measure? Is there something else that can be used?
  22. @BusyBee thank you for your words of wisdom. I wonder why they felt the need to do it on some but not all? Well not my candles, not my problem.
  23. Yes thank you for the Link. I am laughing. Trademarked LOVE?
  24. @birdcharm I think someone has been sniffing too much straight FO. I would be interested to meet that persons lawyer. what a kook! If it is a legit "TM" I thought it was just for the name itself not necessarily the description. I could very well be wrong. I am sure if anyone is spending the money to trademark the scent name it would need to be visible in your terms of use. I think a lot of people still use certain names thinking they won't get caught. That's most likely the case too if you're small potatoes. That's why a lot of dupes you will see have "type" in the name or they change it all together like Natures Garden instead of Fruit Loops they call it Fruity Rings and for Victorias Secret Love Spell they call it loving spell and in their descriptions they say its similar to and they have no association with the company. I think even with the scent descriptions you might even have to tread carefully but on that part I am not 100% sure. I personally wouldn't want to push my luck. I have heard of people receiving letters from lawyers. I know the sports world is very strict on people making money on their trademarks.
