  1. @friendlysoutherner Hello, I have not used that specific wax but have been using Coconut Apricot wax and have had good luck with HTP wicks size 72 and under as well as Premier 700 series wicks size 740 and under. The ECO wicks burned way too hot for me but the smallest I had was an ECO-1 I will look for the smaller sizes. CD wicks under 5 did OK. Not having much luck with Wooden wicks but like them more for the ambiance. RRD wicks I am still testing. LX wicks I have had good results with LX-14 and under. I am going to test Hemp next and see how that throws with this wax.
  2. @TallTayl I have been meaning to search this on the forum because I saw the term on a few posts. Thank you for re-posting this! Genius!
  3. I have a sample bottle at home I still need to try. I might try and get some testing done this weekend. Do you already have it or looking to purchase?
  4. Is anyone still using this wax? I have my first pre-wicked candle to burn this weekend after curing for 2 weeks. I have been having luck with HTP wicks so I double wicked this one with HTP-62 The HTP-73's I had tested on other FO's were a little too much for my jar and the 52's I thought may be a little too small and I was getting rushed into making this candle for my very impatient partner. So I made his with the HTP-62 hoping that would be a winner. I am going to play with the 52's again though I did end up liking how they burned after I had already made his candle. I have the following testing wick types CD, Hemp, HTP, ECO, LX, RRD, PK, Zinc, Premier 700, and wooden wicks(not much of a fan of the wood wicks maybe ill make some just for the crackle) ECO-1s burned way too hot for the ones I tested in and I got that burnt wax smell. I am still waiting on some candles to cure using an FO load of 6%,8%, and 10%. Someone in a group said they had the best luck using 12% which is the max load. I use NG oils so im pretty sure ill be Ok on the lower %
  5. I had wondered that same thing. I have been keeping track and saving my packing lists for the wick sample packs I have been receiving from the different suppliers so I know where to re-order from if I find something that works. I currently have 10 different wick types from 6 different suppliers.
  6. I was under the impression that candle suppliers received their wicks from the manufacturers that make them at large quantities to then distribute them at affordable prices for candle makers. Wick it I believe provides the Premier 700 series to suppliers so I thought they should all be the same. Same with some waxes unless its a supplies companies own proprietary blend like the waxes from Natures Garden. For example CalWax is a wax manufacturer that sells to candle suppliers like wooden wick, Swans, Candlewic, and soon to be NorthWood. These suppliers/ distributors purchase large amounts of the wax to then distribute to consumers who may not have the financial means to meet the min MOQ/MOA direct from the manufacturer. Similar to IGI waxes. Am I mistaken? This had also crossed my mind when I had orders CD wicks from 2 different suppliers and I did not notice a difference aesthetically.
  7. You just have to put a warning label on your candle that states the failing prop 65 chemical and what health concern it falls under. It has to be a certain size as well. I know that They were working on making some changes and trying not to be as strict. For example my company manufactures a multi tool that comes with a tiny piece of Sandpaper. The Prop 64 label had to be applied to the entire tool. Not up to date on what changes have been recently made but I think under a certain % you are not required to apply it to your product. Do more research on the Prop65 website they update the list
  8. @xxxAlpha71xxx Did you ever find anything that worked for you? I have been working more with double and triple wicking.
  9. I saw your post about looking for wicks. I know that was a month ago but let me know if you are ever looking for a type of wick to test. I have a ton of different wick sample packs and since we are practically neighbors it will be easy to get them to you fast.

I have been ordering wicks and some supplies  from AZTEC and also from Flaming candle but they are short staffed and taking forever to ship out right now.  I've never heard of coconut apricot wax.  where is that from?  Do a post for your testing so we can all see.  That last post really beat you up a bit about what you kneed to know before selling.  i was feeling bad about that .  Some people think they know it all.  Don't let that bother you.  I know very little but will keep going at this.  What is the cost on the 5 oz coastal reef?

Different people on this forum have different testing methods.  I have been testing with the fo in and the wick suggested by candle science and it has worked well so far.  Testing w/o the fo is using wax and wicks and in my mind a waste of the wax.  maybe I'm wrong,  I have one almost perfected.  with 4630 and LX 20 or HTP 83 or sp i hope.  I have testedit 3 times with a complete burn each time.

The post about selling wasn’t my post. I had just left a comment on it.  I’m happy you think you may have found one! I found one with another wax and FO but didn’t reorder the wax. I wanted to move in a different direction.

5oz you can have for $5. I don’t have much time to burn other candles but my own.  😂 special fellow candle lover deal

  10. @KrisS My family in southern CA hardly ever have their AC going. I love going back home. I am a huge fan of open windows and fresh air! I just need to test for all types of conditions. But for now I just want a perfect candle for MY home and decide if I want to branch out from there.
  11. @BusyBee A lot of us were surprised and then maybe not so much surprised. I was one of the lucky ones that didn't lose that much money and didn't have a lot of on hand inventory at the end. I learned a lot and met a lot of people so it was still a good experience for me. Now I have another expensive hobby! I need to find a hobby/craft that uses less paper towels. My other hobby is acrylic painting.
  12. @BusyBee why yes I did. People were obsessed with those. Did you as well?
  13. Thank you for your words of wisdom. I have only been testing for 6 months and I know I am nowhere near even letting friends or family test any candles let alone sell them. I left most of the Facebook groups. It was too much misinformation and I found myself constantly posting the candles.org link or other reputable information sites or commenting to use the search bar within the group or the group files. It definitely helped me tremendously in the very beginning so I feel guilty leaving but its time for me to move on and move forward. It definitely shocked me that so many people would make a candle and start selling almost immediately. Glad to know nothing is wrong with me and that it is supposed to be this much work which I enjoy. I finally settled on a candle wax and purchased some additional types of wicks to test. I was starting to feel rushed and overwhelmed when I didn't need to be. I have a full time job. The people that have been asking me for candles are customers I had when I worked for a candle company that recently went out of business. I think the biggest thing and this was something I posted on one the groups is to take everything with a grain of salt and do your own thorough research and test. When they keep posting such broad questions that flood the feed any "advanced" users in the group will leave or at least stop engaging and it begins to be the blind leading the blind. Anyone that really wants to learn will find a way and figure it out. It can be difficult to walk away when you know the wrong information is being shared. It's dangerous. But thank you. yes I am ready to work and learn and make my house smell good!
  14. I was thinking about this too. I was hoping Moo.com would have them but they only have business cards.
  15. I have used SF black raspberry vanilla is great. I liked bird of paradise but may have made it too much because I’m sick of it now. They are behind on shipping at the moment because word of mouth got out about them and their shipping prices are fair. Island escape is good too
  16. Thank you. I will be re-testing this in my Coco Apricot wax. This was the first FO I tested and learned a few things since then.
  17. 10 types of wicks from 6 different suppliers. Hoping that the winning type will be compatible with all my vessels.

  18. I am in AZ too. I've worked with a few different waxes and I did notice a difference when I heated my jars in the oven vs. room temp. As you know in AZ we constantly have the AC running. That's definitely something that keeps me on my toes when testing wicks. I also let my candles cool in the cooling oven on a cooling rack on top of a cake pan and spread apart to try and cool as evenly as possible. Its easier for me since I make such small batches.
  19. I have been using Coconut Apricot Wax and added 10% 130MP Paraffin wax at 8% FO just to try some melts. I might kick it up a notch on the paraffin 5% at a time to see where that gets me. I like the idea of melts in shapes over the clam shells. I think the 10% paraffin with that wax would be fine in clam shells. I will test the throw when I put it on the burner in a couple days.
