  1. When perfumers mix their blends there is always a waiting period/cure to get the end result. They are never judged right after they are mixed. I use the same technique when I blend f.o. and essential oils. I don’t think candles are excluded from this process at least in my experience. I was so ready to put many f.o. on my reject list only to find out a month later 99% have great ht. But wicks also matter. yesterday I lit a candle with a strong ht using an eco wick. I switched the wick to numerous premier wicks of various sizes with close to nothing ht. I guess I’m in the camp of long cures and try numerous wicks. Forrest, your experiment sounds interesting!🌸
  2. I agree with TT on the beeswax, hot glue is unpredictable, it can unstick with weather changes. There are are some recent posts on wicker sticks here so you can search. For me stickers are fantastic and easy to use, I like the ones on sheets best. I get mine from the candle maker store, cheap! i recycle my jars/tins and it takes elbow grease to remove them.
  3. Hi! Mine are from The Candlemakers Store and love them, not one issue. I believe they are 2.49 for 100 or you can purchase more. I also use eco and premier wicks. They stay on really well. I recycle my jars and use elbow grease to remove them.🌸
  4. Hi! i been using 464 since last November and have not had issues other than bumpy, pitted tops after the burn. I’m finding a longer cure is beneficial, even a month. The throw improves so much with most f.o. I also use coconut wax from Northwoods and Lab Co. I love both! For me they are exceptional in every way, either straight or blended. My latest blend is 50% 464 and 50% coconut wax, either brand I mentioned. Longer cure time is best, 2 weeks up to a month. The blend is creamy, smooth before and after every burn, great for me all the way around. 🌸
  5. Hi! love candle science as well! The Flaming Candle has a very beginner friendly wax called pro blend 600. This wax is a combo of soy and paraffin. I would say less of a cure time compared to straight soy in my experience. It’s a soft wax you cut with a knife, i dont find that that’s a negative for me, some may think it’s to much trouble. There is also a tart wax, pro blend 650 that is in bead form, easy to use. Just as great! I use these waxes and coconut wax and my own blend. Have fun experimenting!🌸
  6. Yes of course, the risk is not worth it. It will be interesting what Quentin decided.
  7. Yup, you’d have to blend some of those. Questions on allergies! Maybe I’m not as informed as some of you here regarding allergies to soy. I know many folks that are allergic to eating soy. I’ve read that ingesting soy wax would be a problem but burning a candle is less likely to trigger allergies. I know many are also allergic to certain chemicals in fragrance oils, me included. How do you truly know? I read this on a website, “ as you burn a soy candle, the protein chains are broken up and are no longer the same molecules that could cause the allergy”. I know peoples allergies are real I’m just wondering. i know some of you will share your thoughts!
  8. True! Maybe a para coco blend but you’d have to check. There is a candle company claiming pure coconut wax, no additives or other waxes. They don’t mention their supplier.
  9. Well............ my take is a bit different. I would accommodate her as she may turn out to be a regular customer. For this his reason I don’t stick with one type of wax, I have 3 different ones and a blend I can choose from. Since one of my waxes is coconut I would offer her those. But here is what I’d do, I’d let her know that this would be a special order. She’d have to order a minimum of say 3 or 4 candles. Coconut wax can be more expensive so reflect that in your final cost. You have now made a sale of 3 candles, she’ll tell her friends and you may have a whole new category of candles to add to your collection. Im a firm believer of getting familiar with more than one wax, it can increase your bottom line!🌸
  10. Yay! lets all be happy and learn from each other!🌸
  11. I love pro blend 650 from flaming candles. Good advice here! Read all you can!🌸
  12. I liked the burger and the detailS! An Adult Content label would work though! That’s just me!
  13. Hi! i use bamboo coconut from candle science and everyone here loves it. I don’t really get the coconut scent, everyone’s nose varies. To me it’s a clean, fresh spa type scent and that’s how I sell it. It can get strong if your use to increasing the percentage. My candle wax is 464 blended with coconut wax, the fo improves with a cure. 🌸
  14. The turquoise font would tie in with the leather and beads!
  15. Thanks for the info! Looks like most of their fo starts at 4.00 dollars. I don’t have experience with this company, good, not so good?
  16. I like your ideas! How exciting! What about either a black or red lid to tie in with the labels? I think I saw those lids in various colors at Fillmore. Love the tassel idea and considered doing the same but with crystals. I like the black labels best or consider one store with red, the other with black?🌸
  17. I should add, the new wax you are using has more paraffin in it. It would be fun to burn one of those candles a month later and see if the hot throw has improved. Paraffin helps the the throw so maybe the longer cure won’t matter. My coconut wax has a small amt. of paraffin, probably less than 10%.
  18. I think coconut wax and 464 benefit from a longer cure wether you use them separately or blend. Talltayl and Trappeur have addressed this topic numerous times. I blend the two for a smoother candle especially after the burn, the coconut wax helps with that. Each wax has good and not so good attributes. But even my straight 464 improves with longer cures. What is great about this is I can pour my candles 1-2 months before the times I plan to sell, (Holidays).
  19. Hi! Bella and Guinevere’s Attraction are beautiful! They are not super strong but mellow in 464 blend. I can’t remember off hand if these are skin safe, if they are, perfume or bath and body products, these would work great! 🌸
  20. I think you’ll find the hot throw improves with coconut wax. I’ve been burning my candles from one and two months ago and cannot believe how great they smell, I use a blend of coconut wax and 464.🌸
  21. Just gorgeous! Great instructions on your process! For me, I love cp and cpop methods. 🌸
  22. Hi! Black Cherry Merlot from CS. OOB to my nose smells fantastic. I have not put it in wax yet but plan to soon. My wax is coconut wax and 464. Id also love to know of more wine ish f.o. That people have had luck with. I want to try all the champagne type f.o.s as well!🌸
  23. I’m just wondering about your recipe though, your numbers don’t add up to 100%. Maybe recheck them on soapcalc. Also soapcalc will show you the quality of your soap by looking at their calculations once you’ve entered your percentages. Their recommendations are only a guide but I find it very useful. I’m not sure how hard your soap will be or how much lather you’ll end up with. Coconut oil will add both hardness and lather. A small amount of castor oil will also add lather. Large amounts of olive oil are great for the skin but won’t harden your soap or produce bubbbly lather. It’s true coconut oil can be very drying to the skin so a balanced recipe can remedy that. If you use harder oils, you won’t need sodium lactate. Palm oil is another hard oil that contributes firmness and lather. Many won’t beaches it’s unsustainable but it is excellent in soap if you balance it with nourishing butters like Mango or Shea. Its great fun trying and with so many variations! Good job!
