  1. This candle is scheduled for surgery, just waiting on the proper surgical instrument. The Doctor on call is Dr. Candlerush, it will be her first wickectomy. Stay tuned!
  2. Update, the flame is just about extinguished unless I save it by paper-toweling the melt pool but a consumer should not have to do this!
  3. This morning I’m currently burning a candle from Kohl’s. Sonoma brand, sugared vanilla, much like pink sugar, guessing its paraffin? I cant tell what kind of wick. Judged on the last pick someone might know. initally when I lit it it Tourched and a second later the flame stabilized to 1/2 inch, maybe slightly less. It seemed under wicked. Melt pool was very close to an inch per hour so that was good. First hour the flame was average, however, 2 hours later close to no flame. first pic, initially lit after it Tourched. second pic, 2 hour burn. third pic close up of wick/ flame The jar is 3in. Wide by 2 1/2 inches tall, no wet spots, no frosting. The throw is average and could not smell anything until an hour into the burn. Disappointing!
  4. It’s taken this long for me to see the writing on the wall as far as my wax choices! The last few days Ive been burning candles from February. These are Flamings Pro Blend 600 wax which is just about 50/50 soy and paraffin. Both ct and ht are fantastic! Pineapple cilantro, which is on the strong side anyway and Asian sandlewood which is lighter generally but strong in this wax. I also have Asian sandlewood in my coconut wax blend which has barely no scent at all. I feel I’ve given coconut wax and soy a fair try but now I’d like to use straight paraffin and some paraffin blends. 🌸
  5. There are many positives using paraffin. Look for those articles online, they are helpful. candles.org for one. Studies have shown all waxes are subject soot. If paraffin wax was hazardous we’d all be sick. If anything fragrance oil may cause issues more than wax IMO but research also shows this. But the amounts of fragrances is pretty small over all. Sometimes I wonder about soy and all the pesticides in it. Is it any safer? I’m sure they clean and refine wax. Maybe someone else has more scientific thoughts about this. I personally don’t buy into all the hazardous health claims and hype. There might be some different opinions here I’m sure. It will be fun to research and try it🌸
  6. Sorry , did not see this till now. everclear works great with essential oils, I do the drop method, start with 3-5 oils one drop of each. Let it blend 1-2 weeks, adjust by adding more or less of each. You can add a few drops of everclear before or after the waiting period. Take notes! Eden Botanical has a tutorial on mixing and blending. It’s where I get my oils from, top notch. Vetiver Aromatics has a guide and ingredients to make professional grade perfume. I think if you use fragrance oils that are skin safe a body type spay solution works well. These usually have some moisturizing in them. You can find them at most candle and soap making distributors. There are more than one type depending on what products you make. Hope this helps🌸
  7. Mine are from Northwoods Candle. I love them, excellent quality. Lids too! Hope they are still available. Sorry I don’t know how to add a link!🌸
  8. Thank you CaptnKush for your review. I’m hoping for an even greater ht from what I’m using now, 464 blended with Lab co coconut which already has paraffin in it. Im having the same adhesion issues now and then so I’m not hung up on that. I’m content for now but it’s my curiosity that I have to satisfy. Also wanna try cbl 125, another curiosity! Yes, those proprietary blends are a mystery! oh, one last question, is this wax smooth after each burn?
  9. Those of you using this new wax how are you liking it? Any new results to share!🌸
  10. Which brands/distributors of paraffin wax do you all consider the best? Higher end wax. Are they blends, or straight paraffin with few additives. I’m not very familiar with paraffin wax.
  11. Yes as it solidified the crack is gone for now. Time to poke holes. I do love Lab Co wax on its own but never cared for 464 on its own which is why I started blending. Its possible my technique has changed slightly, I’ll have to keep consistent, thank goodness for my notes.
  12. Ok! Thanks! Yup, wick change. trivia question, will the “mouth” reappear after the next burn? Guess I’ll find out!
  13. Ok, I wonder if the crack is due to the wax combo and a long cure. Are you saying the crack may be a sink hole? I normally use eco wicks, cd at times and premier which has been doing well with my blend. Thanks pughaus for your insight, I will change the wicks and start there.
  14. Hi all! Burning Love Spell from Aztec at 7% in 464/Lab Co. coconut wax. I’ve used this blend with great luck, same jars. Eco 10 in an 8 oz. square. There is also a small crack running through the wick. This is a 4 week old candle. Thanks for your wisdom!🌸
  15. Forgot about the wickectomy! See, this is why we need you to publish a candle making book!
  16. Ok so those of you with the great throw after 48 hours ish and the not so great throw 2 week ish later, what is your way to remedy the wick size? Inquiring minds want to know?
  17. Well said! Candle making is not so black and white like we’d like, lots are grey too!
  18. Hi! Have you thought about making it? Its pretty easy and can save you money down the road. There are many recipes online including NG, BB etc. Ive formulated my own after some experimenting with success.🌸
  19. Hi! Well I’m not a scientist but speaking from my personal experience I’m happy to share. Ill start by saying candle making is one big experiment. Lots of variables, change in products, new waxes etc. The recommendations on websites for products are just guides. It’s really up to the candle maker to experiment. The simplest answer I’ve come up with is it takes time for certain wax and fragrance oil to blend. Of course we mix it which does the first part but it will further develop over time. Perfumers mix fragrances and wait weeks for them to develop before they are sold. My own experiment has shown me that after lightning a candle after the so called 3 day wait, close to no hot throw. Ready to pitch the candle and f.o. I decided to keep them, forgot about them and relit a month later with the strongest hot throw. Keep in mind your wicks matter also, more experimenting! My wax is 464 and coconut wax/some paraffin in the blend. Since paraffin throws so well there are many blends to try that might be satisfying, more experimenting! Im ok with waiting for a cure, not all f.o. work the same either. There are some that are strong 1-2 weeks later. Maybe this helps?🌸
  20. That would be amazing! Your understanding of the whole process is vast! I also see you writing a complete candle making book or offering a ebooks. I for one would buy whatever you publish, I know many here would as well. In your spare time?🌸
