  1. I started messing with soy then quickly went to palm wax. loving the decision i made. I am still impatient to wait the 3-7 days for curing but it is a heck of a lot better than the 2 week wait i had when i made some soy candles. Sadly in my parents house there is no room that will work properly for candle testing so i just test in my own room.
  2. What i do is i put a cookie sheet under a cooling rack and slowly turn the candle over when i have a decent layer of cooled wax but can still see the liquid wax under it. I turn it over slowly so if it starts to leak due to a weak spot i don't loose a ton of way to the cookie sheet. i still get tiny air pockets at times but they are kinda like long pinhole sized pockets. basically you should be able to push on the top layer of wax is a bit of pressure and it not put a decent dent in the layer.
  3. No it wont evaporate over time, candles you buy in the store might have been sitting on a shelf for over a year before someone buys it and the fragrance is still there. The entire time the candle is sitting there on the shelf is in itself a long cure time really. the fragrance bonds to the wax in essence and only get released when it is being burned. That is why cold and hot throw usually vary on the same candle. For soy wax you really need to let it cure for about 2 weeks. burning a soy candle before it cures long enough generally effect the scent. to get the best scent throw you have to let it cure for a while. that is one of the drawbacks some people don't like about soy is the long cure time. Paraffin you don't have to let cure nearly as long. tho i am not sure on the times for paraffin since i don't use it myself.
  4. Your math is correct and you are measuring by weight instead of volume. A few questions i just thought of. What temp are you adding your fo into the wax? Do you have any candles at all that actually have a good/decent hot throw? How long are you letting your candle cure before test lighting? 🤣 I have a small bag of pillar palm wax from hobby lobby. I am to lazy to return it so i will just use it for some melts for my dad
  5. I will, sadly i am gonna have to re-pour my dual wick candles as i spaced the wicks to far apart and had a complete melt pool of 4" in under 2 hours.
  6. I didn't even notice the font color difference to be honest. I am partly colorblind and the font was not noticeable. Tho i did notice the flame color change.
  7. It would help to know what type of wax you are using? paraffin, soy, or palm? I don't use it but I imagine this will be helpful info for the people that do use it.
  8. lol i have more fo than wax and now you are making wanna order that fairy garden. I have 21 fo samples atm and only 7 pounds of palm wax. So I dont wanna go and order a bunch more just to make shipping charges worth it. Every time i have ordered fo i always add enough to cover the cost of shipping . Adding it to my list of fo's to try out later.😀
  9. I like your setup even if it isn't a current one. it would be fairly easy to find what i was looking for which is a plus for people like me with eyesight issues. It has been a while since i saw someone selling candles as a show or market but most of them have it setup weird around here so it is hard for me to even look at everything with my eyesight.
  10. I will let people know how my csn test goes this time. I will start the test tomorrow. So it will be a few days before i can get a feel for how the wicks will do. Hopefully on the dual wick ones i did not space the wicks to far apart. not tried make a dual wick candle before.
  11. This is good to know. I prefer to use paypal whenever i can. I font really like giving my cc number to online stores unless i really have to. My brother has had to file for stolen card numbers several times due to companies info getting taken. In fact he only uses paypal through one online store because his card info was taken from that companies site at least 2 times
  12. I love glass glow palm. i thought about palm pillars but my only 2 options there is feather palm and crystal palm and i am nut sure how i would like either of those. I wish glass glow was in a pillar form as i absolutely love it. Even in a naked candle they look beautiful. My mom saw me test burning the candles in my room and loved them as well. My dad wants some wax melt made for him to use so i might end up buying some of the feather palm wax when i go dto order more glass glow.
  13. I am currently testing csn wicks in 16oz apothecary jars. Tomorrow i will start the test burn with a single csn 16 wick. Dual wick wise i will be doing a test with csn 7 and csn 9. I tried csn 12 and 14 and found they left way to much wax in the jar roughly a 1/2+ inch shell around the jar. I am looking for roughly a 1/4 inch shell or slighly smaller. I did test the 16 at the same time but the wick was off center by about half an inch so i am redoing that one in this next wick test run.
  14. Welcome, nice to see more palm wax users on here. I just started using it in container candles. Still got a ways to go with learning the wax tho. BNut I love the was so it is worth the effort in the end.
  15. I melted roughly 2.5 lbs of wax from failed wick testing in my presto pot in less than 15 minutes. I have the bigger presto pot tho not sure how much of a difference the bigger one might make.
  16. Thanks I have been doing wick testing with naked candles. Figured that was the best way to go. I did end up with 3 candles that did not burn fully so i remelted the wax and had already poured that along with new wax into some more test candles before i read this. I Really appreciate you taking the time to answer my question as well as giving me a good reason as to why i should test naked candles like i started doing.
  17. The other option is if you are using a pc and have a program like paint or paint.net you can use one of those programs and and use the resize feature and shrink it down to say 50% or so to cut down on file size and how large the actual photos size it.
  18. It is similar to a heat gun but is is a lot smaller and easier to use one handed. I always think of them as travel heat guns really cause they are less bulky and can fit them in a fairly small bag. They are also a bit more precise on were the heat is directed.
  19. nice to know. will have to test that out when i get around to scent testing.
  20. 1 oz per pound comes out to roughly 6% fo pp of wax. Most of the info i found online for palm wax just said to use the 6% standard. so that is what i will try doing first i can always lower it if need be. 5% would be roughly .8 oz of fo.
  21. I am using palm wax. I use the glass glow from Lone Star Candle Supply doing wick testing in just he wax I love it. Even plain white wax looks beautiful with the pattern you get. I am using a 4" apothecary jar and it is beautiful i wanna get the main wick test done fast so i can start adding color and scent to them. Even my mom loves how the candles look burning with the patterns you get in it. I wanna look into pillar candles but not till after i get the container candles dialed in first. I do this as a hobby at the moment.
  22. the only things that might work that i can come up with would be a good sized crock pot or maybe a smaller turkey roaster. but i am not sure. Some people sure turkey fryers for wax as well.
