  1. Also the other thing that dictates the testing process is the type of wax you are using. For instance I am testing out palm wax and i pretty much have to burn down to the bottom of the jar to test the wick properly so i don't bother with the skewer method myself. Palm wax seems to burn down then out which is why i don't use the skewer method. If i had done the skewer method with this wax I would of pulled a wick well before i got a good assessment on how the wick will burn. even with a full length wick i need to do one more test with 2 of the wick sizes along with testing a double wick in 2 more candles to get the best idea on the correct wick. My testing just for wick has taken over 30 hours so far and i gotta do another round after this before i even mess with color and scent. That is the neat thing about candles each type of wax burns differently. So the wick test for one may not work well or at all for another wax..
  2. In the 2 previous tests they have done and posted on here they tested at least one eco wick in each test. This one was focusing on different wicks yet again to show people how these will tend to burn.
  3. I am on disability so i have plenty of time to test candles even doing it the longer way. I currently have 2 candles burning for wick testing. once i get the wick down for plain candles i will add in color and scent and test again.
  4. Shortly i will be doing scent testing myself. I plan to do almost exactly what you said. I will test burn them in the same room one fragrance at a time tho. That way I can judge how well the hot throw is in a consistent manner between candles. The prob i see with doing it in different rooms is that you are changing the variables that you might not be able to controls. One room might have a different air flow due to vents or fans so it might disperse the scent to other areas. So when i do it i will use my bedroom were i tend to burn candles anyways. so that i have a consistent basis to compare the scents throw. My way will take a bit longer to test all the candles i have scents for but i feel it will give me the best results. Once i test it in my room for a few burns i will probably take it down stairs and but it in the living room to see how well the scent throws in a big open room.
  5. I think about 3oz of wax on the 4 ounce, 6 oz in the 8 oz jar, 12 for the 16 oz jar. Tho it can be more depending on how full you make the candles. the 4 oz jar is the one i am not 100% sure on. Sorry to hear about your sight. I am actually legally blind. Tho i can read things like measuring cups I just gotta hold them somewhat close depending on the text size. The 8 and 16 oz jars i pulled info from websites online. The 4 oz i could only find info for jelly jars. others may have more exact info from what they use.
  6. If i was looking to buy a candle at a store and had to choose between a bigger candle or a smaller one in a really nice looking jar. I would be inclined to buy the one in the nicer jar even if the price was say $9-$10 for the smaller one but that is me. I look at both the scent and the style of container. Sometimes the container makes or breaks the candle for me.
  7. i can understand that i melted a pound of palm wax for a container candle test and it actually filled the container more than the other 2 i had done. i ended up just pouring it all into the container . So i had a slightly overfilled container. if i had scent and all in it i would of poured it into another container for a candle like you are talking about.
  8. If it was me and i knew i needed fragrances for the fall and winter, i would go ahead and pick them up before any potential shortages could really effect me. I dont have to worry so much about that as i am a newbie candle hobbyist.
  9. I would love to try dragons blood but i am leary of trying it since a lot of people say it is a strong scent. So I have taken it off my list of what i am looking to order cause i would prefer not to waste money on something i wont want to use.
  10. I binge watched the show in only a few days. Surprising how much of a show you can watch when you sit at a pc all day cause you can't really work.
  11. LOL thanks to reading this post i actually went back and watched the Merlin tv show.
  12. If i was good with tools i would make something like that for my apothecary jars using the wooden lid you can buy for them. But in the end i would mess the lid up end up wasting money. If i could i would actually make 2 of them one to place the wick, the other to keep it centered.
  13. Better off center than not working at all. I have major eyesight issues and when i try to center a wick in my jar, I get it to what looks center when i place it in the jar. then i turn it upside down and find that i am 0.125-0.5 inches off in one or more directing. directions. I feel like i am playing pin the tail on the donkey honestly. All 3 of my test candles i poured for palm container wick testing have off center wicks ranging from 0.125 to 0.5 inches off center.
  14. I have the wax to pour a pillar but they don't have the mold size i want locally. i have to order it online when it gets here yes i will use the amount of wax that the mold says. My mold will hold 16 oz so that is how much wax i will melt for it. I wont fill the mold completely cause i will keep some set aside for a repour to finish the candle off. I hope this helps. I am sure others will chime in on this with how they do it using there wax.
  15. LOL, that is already on a list i have of fragrances you mentioned you like from fillmore in a different post. I have about 8 fragrances off that list i want to try when i need to order more fo after my wick tests.
  16. I would melt the 10oz of wax then when i went to pour the wax i would keep some of the already melted wax to use as a second pour on the pillar so it would still be 10 ounces. Others may do it differently tho.
  17. Candle cocoon is now offering wave wood wicks as early orders. They look nice tho it will be interesting to see how they perform since a lot of people seem to have issues with normal wooden wicks. Here is a link that shows how they were testing the wicks and a bit of what the found out while doing the test. https://blog.candlecocoon.com/2018/05/testing-new-wave-wooden-wick.html
  18. I have a few in my wish list that i am looking at getting 1oz samples of. Picked those based off of things i like the scent of and a few i pick because i think a few family members might like them. I didn't wanna click on every fragrance to get a description of them. Plus sometimes i don't understand the description of them even after reading it kinda like dragons blood. without actually getting a bottle i wont know at all if i will like it as the description is like reading chinese. Blackberry Cedar Wood Georgia Peach Home Sweet Home Type (this one i am sure i will like since i like the yankee candles scent) Fresh Cut Grass Lemongrass Fresh Rain Was also debating on picking up there version of dragons blood and pink sugar to test
  19. lol honestly i don't buy to much in the way of candles. We either have the more expensive yankee candles in limited scents or the overly cheap walmart brand candles around. I never wanted to buy the cheap candles and i can't see paying $20 for a 16 oz candle. So i decided to make my own candles as a hobby. Since i do not have any particular scent types i was just trying to get some ideas on ones people liked that i could try out. The only candles i have really been around are ones with cinnamon like apple cinnamon plain cinnamon and apple pie. Family have bought those in the past.
  20. I am getting ready to place a small order on Bitter Creek candle Supplies website and am looking for any fragrance suggestions anyone might have as i want to get the most out of my shipping charge.
  21. Thanks for the info in will keep that in mind and will slowly turn it up till i get the wax up to around 210 cause palm wax likes it hot. Waiting on the parents to get up so we can go to the store lol. Not being able to drive sucks.
  22. I am going to the local walmart today so that would be doable today.
  23. I am looking for a better option for wax melting since trying to get my palm wax over 200 degrees in my double boiler setup is not really working. The hottest i got the wax to was i think 203 and that took me well over 30 minutes to melt 1 pound of wax. I stopped watching the time after 30 minutes. So i am having to look for options that will work better for me than a double boiler. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.
  24. I wish i could order stuff from candlewic but there shipping rates are higher than the wax costs for me. I wanted to order some palm wax from them but shipping was like 10-15$ more to get to me. i ended up ordering it from another company at 3/4 the shipping cost. Unless something changed i can't order from them.
