  1. Mine looks right, just that Wanderlust and I agreed to split a 4 oz of the Nootka Tree Wood Oil (2 ozs ea.) if possible, instead of me just getting one ounce. Also, was wondering about the Eucalyptus-- I see you're getting the Australian--do you find that to be superior to the China one? Either way is fine with me, just curious.
  2. I was looking for something else and happened on this thread: http://www.craftserver.com/topic/93806-slatkins-aka-bbw-winter-dupe/#comment-878972
  3. Glad it turned out well for you! Keep up the experimenting, so I can learn from your mistakes! --and successes
  4. From elsewhere: In fine fragrance applications, perfumers are using Nootka Tree Oil to add a novel smoky, leathery, woody aspect to their formulas that make them stand out to their clients. In functional applications, perfumers are saving money by adding just a few parts per thousand (!!) of Nootka Tree Oil to provide an incomparable depth and richness to their formulas. Okay, I'll shut up now.
  5. Have you guys seen the note on The Perfumery website about the Nootka tree wood oil? If not, here it is: Origin: Sourced and distilled sustainably in Canada. Olfactory Description: Warm woody with a sandalwood top note. Leathery and smoky with patchouli and vetiver notes. Aromatic. Nootka Tree Oil (Cupressus nootkatensis) is steam-distilled from the heart wood of the Nootka Tree (it is also called Alaska Cypress or Yellow Cedar). The oil provides a rich deep woody note and it’s character naturally lends itself to be used with materials such as patchouli, sandalwood and cedarwood. In these combinations and others, it adds more depth of character and boosts the overall impact. Many have discovered that Nootka Tree Oil can be used as an inexpensive alternative to traditional woody notes such as Virginia Cedarwood Oil. While the Nootka costs more on a per kilogram basis than the Virginia, it is up to 10 times more powerful, providing a substantial cost savings. Trying to decide if I should jump up to 4 oz instead of just one. If someone wants to split a 4 oz with me, I'd be up for that.
  6. I'd love to get in on this too. I've been wanting some Arborvitae, but my usual sources don't carry it, so I didn't know who to get it from. From your list I'd like: Eucalyptus (4 oz) Lavender 40/42 (4 oz) Rosemary camphor, Spain (4 oz) and in addition: Cedarwood Oil, Western Red (1 oz) Giant Arborvitae (1 oz) Nootka Tree Wood Oil (1 oz) Galangal Root Oil (1 oz) Thank you Talltayl!
  7. I think you can find all three at New Directions Aromatics. And I believe they're all different.
  8. You should try soapsupplies.net pink sugar. Some say it discolors little (see posts below). http://www.craftserver.com/topic/101851-some-recent-soaps-i-made/#comment-960768 http://www.craftserver.com/topic/87114-pink-sugar-omh-soap-bars/#comment-816475 I also checked the soapscentreview board and pasted their reviews of the soapsupplies.net pink sugar--not quite as favorable color wise. Pink Sugar by lilysmom » Wed Oct 12, 2011 9:49 am RTCP, all veg. oils, 33% lye sol., 1 oz. ppo. Very nice Pink Sugar. No A at all. Scent is comparable to other PS's I like, without the D to dark brown. I use some milk for my liquids, so I got D to medium tan which I expected. Very nice. Update Mar. 2012 - this did end up a med. brown. Still a nice scent holding well months later. It will discolor but not as bad as others will. I use TD in mine and swirl with pink (I like her flamingo) and it turns out very nice. Also, no acceration. One of my fav's. dcornett CP Soap Full H2O 27-29% Solution Posts: 24 Joined: Wed Apr 20, 2011 10:46 pm Top Re: Pink Sugar by peremenka » Wed Jun 13, 2012 3:18 pm Soaped this FO 6 weeks ago in CP at 5% (~0.9 ppo). Very well-behaved at 33% lye solution, no acceleration whatsoever. D to medium tan. It's not as nice as the one from TSW, but it's still quite good, I might reorder. And next time I'll use 1 oz ppo for a stronger scent. peremenka CP Soaper 33% Solution Posts: 78 Joined: Sat Jun 19, 2010 5:18 pm
  9. I couldn't figure out what it was, unless it was glycerine. It had that thickness and the color of glycerine (clear). But I wouldn't think that glycerine would do that, as I've heard of people adding it to soap before. Well, I may find out some day. I was using coconut, palm, pko, olive, shea, and castor oils BTW.
  10. Heh heh. Yeah, idiots can provoke that response sometimes.
  11. Thanks Jcandleattic! I think however the culprit is the mystery ingredient I added. I just went to refill my smaller bottle of castor oil from the big gallon jug, and there was still some left in the little bottle. Well, as I was adding to it, I saw that it was a different color from the oil I was adding. Hmmm. I realize now that what I thought was my bottle of castor, was a bottle of something else entirely. What exactly, I'm not sure. But now I know what happens when you add it to soap! I went ahead and dumped it out. This embarrassing turn of events will hopefully teach me to become a better labeler.
  12. Well, I just finished making some RT CP soap. I added the Peak lilac FO to the oils, stirring it up first before adding the lye solution. As I stirred in the solution, I felt like the whisk was hitting against something on the bottom of the bowl, and it finally detached and up comes this weird white fibrous looking mass! It was a lump a little smaller than the size of my thumb. There were also more little floaties of the same material, so I had to sieve the soap as I was adding it to the mold. Has anyone else ever had this happen? I just wonder if it was a reaction of the lye with the FO, as the amount of it was about how much FO I used (my batch was a small 1 lb batch).
  13. Sweet looking soaps! Love how you did the little pumpkins on top!
  14. I think they do an annual sample sale every August. I got in on it last year. So it should be coming right up!
  15. I belong to a facebook group called "Real Aromatherapy Reviews & More". You can ask to 'join group',and then you'll have access to their files, one of which is a list of red flagged companies that have had one or more products that either failed purity analysis, or who are selling at prices too good to be true (in other words, the EO cannot possibly be produced for that price). The list is fairly long unfortunately. Another FB group called "Blue Tansy Analysis" has a doc called "A compilation of 3rd party GC/MS test results" which shows which companies passed, and which didn't. You do need to 'join group' to see, but once you have, it can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/764639060290026/permalink/916963081724289/ Three companies that passed whose products I find to be competitively priced, are New Directions Aromatics, Appalachian Valley, Eden Botanicals.
  16. Those labels look great!! And I love the crystal candles. So elegant!
  17. I've ordered from New Directions Aromatics and been happy with it. It is a great price. So is their kokum butter.
  18. Nice! Glad they worked out for you.
  19. Very beautiful soaps! Nice work!
