  1. I love ALL the wicks. Sometimes the one I least expect to work is the very best. I've scratched my head marveling over it many times. If I had to do away with one type, it would be wood. I just don't trust those boogers. In response to the above posts re: Eco wicks. I don't get why so many people have bad experiences with them. They are clean burning, self-trimming little marvels in my parasoy world....most of the time.
  2. I prefer a creamier look, closer to a 50/50 parasoy blend. The newer 6006 is greasier and goopier, and IMO it doesn't burn as easily as it did several years ago. In terms of more recent years, I haven't seen the wicking problems others have indicated. I've never been able to maintain good adhesion with 6006, but that is probably partially environmental on my end.
  3. I’ve heard about some problems but I haven’t had any 6006 in a long time that required wick adjustments. I’ve never ever had good adhesion so I’d never notice a difference there....lol
  4. Interesting comments on this topic. I ditched 6006 mostly and mainly for aesthetic issues, but I still use a bit from time to time. I don't think it's hard to master at all...once you accept that a FMP early on isn't going to work. I don't even really understand why or how that became the benchmark of success. With the exception of multi-wicked candles and maybe some small el cheapo's, I haven't bought a commercially made candle that reaches a FMP on the first burn in forever. Anyway, OP, keep plugging away at it. I think you are much closer to success than you realize.
  5. SKS & Burch Bottle, but I think they both list them as 25oz.
  6. Candlewic has raw CD spools, and they used to do custom tabbed wicks...not sure if they still do that, but it would be worth checking into. Also Candle Cocoon sells CD & CDN wicks in 12" length.
  7. It's kinda hard for me to tell, but it looks like mottling. What wax are you using?
  8. They are most likely having those containers custom printed, not a label or decal.
  9. 6006 burns with a deeper, more narrow melt pool. You won't get a FMP in the early burns unless you are way over-wicked. You want some hangup in the first couple of burns. If you have a FMP early on, you are usually over-wicked. With a tin, it's really best to have a bit of hangup until near the bottom of the container.
  10. I find that 2 weeks is optimal....not too long to wait, but long enough for much of the magic to happen. The Eco 8 is generally appropriate for tins and misc. 3" (ish) containers using 6-7% FO. I'd lower the FO load.
  11. Some of those wick sizes are spot on. Are you allowing the candle plenty of time to cure? Burning too soon can give false results, especially with 6006. That wax continues to harden for while after the candle is poured, and a test burn after 2 days can look very different than a test burn after 2 weeks.
  12. No, not really. I only use 6% or a smidge over, but 8 is reasonable and well within what the wax can hold.
  13. You can always test Eco 1. I use a lot of Eco 1's in jelly's.
  14. Infrared thermometers are great but they can be tricky. I'm currently using an el cheapo Ames from Harbor Freight. I've had several over the years and they all had to be calibrated before using. So just be sure to buy one that can be calibrated.
  15. I kinda sorta briefly considered selling CC products, but I wasn't overly excited about it. If ordering from WSP has gotten this bad, maybe I should revisit the idea??? IDK.
  16. My thoughts too. My most recent 4630 was fine, and it performed well. But I've had some in the past that was very hard and didn't wick as normal. I just can't get behind IGI anymore due to the inconsistencies.....inconsistencies I've personally experienced.
  17. I'm using CW's mottling wax for containers. It's harder than 4786 with a higher MP. As for throw, it's been great with every FO I've put in it, which has been about 25 different scents so far. FO load is fairly low and seepage reportedly can be a problem. Rather than adding vybar or mycrocrystalline, I'm adding a small amount of a softer container blend (slightly less than 1oz pp). That allows me to use 6% FO across the board with no seepage and still maintain great mottling. I am really loving the look of these candles on our shelves.
  18. I don't necessarily have a sub for 4627, but personally I am really enjoying mottling wax right now. I was previously using a soft container wax that was great....until it wasn't. With mottling wax, there is no worry about shipping in warm temps. The rustic look means I don't have to strive for perfect aesthetics. HT is good and reliable. The downside is the repours.
  19. Inconsistencies come from the manufacturer, and they are just something we learn to deal with. The only thing I've heard about 4627 lately is related to moisture in the wax. Is that the complaint? If so, no worries. Just open the bag when you receive it to let it get some air, and heat and hold a few minutes before you scent and pour. That should take care of those issues. It's fairly common.
  20. I agree. I use mostly Eco 4's in that jar. I thought you were using the jelly jar. Sorry for the mistake.
  21. Eco 8 is way too big also. An Eco 8 is good for tumblers, status jars, those 3 inchers. The jelly jar is Eco 2 territory, sometimes Eco 1. I've poured a bunch of 6006 jelly jars because we use them as promo items, so I am really familiar. You won't get a FMP on the 1st burn, but it will catch up pretty quickly, which is ideal since the jar has a bit of a taper. They can get really hot at the bottom.
  22. Personally I've never seen that in 6006 and I've used a lot of that wax. My first thought is....is that a jelly jar? If so, Eco 10 is huge for that jar and will burn very hot. Maybe that is the culprit???
  23. I clean my molds by turning them upside down on a cookie sheet covered with paper towels and set them in the oven on the "warm" setting to melt off any residual wax. Then spray w/alcohol and wipe clean. What kind of wax are you using?
  24. With a fairly short stint in a hot truck, my PB600 candles were melty around the edges and the wax pushed itself upwards...oozing really. I switched to mottling wax for all my spring/summer candles. One less thing to worry about.
