  1. from a guys point of view, anything food, Dragons Blood,Sex on the beach... those are a few good ones.... at least ones that I like.
  2. Definately wick for diameter.. then adjust from there. But I do agree with the above post... stay away from the odd/funky shapes... or you will end pullin your hair out, which in my case isnt a good thing
  3. I started with 10 FO's, but am up to 40 year around, and then usually add 5 - 10 for the holiday's..
  4. sounds ok to me, but you didnt mention if you did a test melt in a votive holder or just free standing.. if you put it in a tight fitting holder it mite burn a little more evenly.. just a thought
  5. NG has a Smoke Eliminator FO that is out of this world. its basically Citrus/Cillantro.... and if you mix 1.5oz per lb, it will fill the whole house... It is one of my best sellers... one lady has a SIL that smokes in the house when she visits, so she lights the candle, and you can not tell that the smoker was there.... also helps when you use the smoke detector as a food timer (not that I have ever done that ).... Anyway, HTH
  6. My weekend is basically shot. Have not had time to do anything candle related all week. I work for the county E-911 service, and we have been getting the command post set up for our annual Bridge Day festival. Basically my day starts at around 6a, and wont end until around 5 or 6p. Sunday is hopefully gonna be spent makin more ornies for an upcoming craft show. I did get my first batch of ornies done, and they came out surprisingly well..lol.. anyway... thats what is simmering in my pot this weekend:cheesy2:
  7. I sent you a PM.... if you didnt get it let me know and I will email you with my questions...lol
  8. as time progresses, I find myself using the liquids more and more.... so guess that would be my answer.
  9. definately agree on the above answer. They are an easy way to make a few bucks to by MORE wax and FO's, so you can sell more....and so on and so on and so on.... LOL>.... good luck!
  10. I love this board..lol... no comment on the 5" tho.
  11. howdy fellow chandlers..... have an interesting question for you all. I just lucked into several molds thru a swap, and one of the molds I am getting is the 6 count taper mold. I was wondering if anyone know what type of wax would do better with these? I was gonna try to use my existing pillar wax (ok6228) but was thinkin that maybe its too soft... so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also, I may be putting some of them on the classifieds or maybe try a swap. I am not sure what all I am getting as the lady is still looking and boxing up stuff.. will know more next week... anyway, just wanted to see what you all had in way of suggestions
  12. I use a free site for my web site.. its ok to get started and really easy to use. If you want to have one professionally done, there are several places that have the style sites your lookin for... if you want to check out the free one... start with www.freewebs.com like I said, its a basic site, and only gives you like 7 pages.... but the templates are very easy to edit and add pictures and things... course I am also trying to teach myself webpage design..... but thats another story...lol.... anyway.. HTH
  13. Just checked out your site, and its a very well done site. Very easy to navigate, graphics are not overwhelming.... only thing I would change is the falling leaves cause they sorta obscure the main page.... but over all I would say its a very well thought out site... good job Maybe you can look at your advertising. Check into getting your site promoted on search engines for starters... from there not too sure cause im still learnin too...lol... GOOD LUCK!!
  14. thats the general rule of thumb that I use... if you cant touch it, its way too hot.
  15. as long as the diameter of both jars are the same, I would say yes. I use the same size wicks on my apoth jars, and it works out just fine..
  16. This years theme for fire prevention weeks seems to revolve around candles and candle safety. The brochures that are being used this year has alot of safety tips, but never did see anything about not burning them..Course its all up for interpretation... does make things harder for us tho..
  17. Where abouts in WV anna? as the name suggests, its my home sweet home
  18. I agree with Fern on this one. As far as selling and how much, here is a basic formula that I use.. Calculate the cost of your wax per lb, container's each, wicks each, and cost of your FO per lb and the cost of any additives you use. You can also factor in cost of color, but that is really hard to do sometimes.... Anway, total up all of those, and that is your cost per candle.. then just mark em up to what you feel is fair, or I think its a multiple of 3. but I could be wrong and if I am, im sure there is someone who knows for sure... HTH
  19. I absolutely LOVE orange clove.... it is one of my best sellers and it works for all types of candles.... container, pillar, votives, incense, and even dipped bears..lol..... its WUNNERFUL
  20. Morning, I use the 6228 wax for my pillars and votives. I would turn up the heat just a tad and it should eliminate the floaters.. I think it is something that is in the wax itself, as I have had it happen a few times to me also. I am new to pillars myself, but yours look really good. Do you heat your molds prior to pouring? someone told me to heat my molds and it should help with the pinholes... anyway... just my 2 cents worth:D
  21. for my weekend its basically trying my first batch of "ornies" and probably makin some xmas candles for an upcoming craft show.... next week I probably wont get anything done as its our annual "Bridge Day Festival" and I work for the local 911 center, so I am manning the command post. So my week is basically shot next week. Anyway, thats just a brief idea of how my weekend is goin...lol
  22. basically means that you sell or buy below retail, so that the other person buying or selling can mark up the prices to sell retail.... jeez thats confusing.... lets try that again... means that you sell your products below retail, but above cost.... and the person buying can mark the products up by a percentage to resale to the public... make sense?
  23. hey there, I cant comment on scents from PEAKS, but for the last couple of years I use EggNog , Gingerbread, Mulberry, Cranberry Relish, Spicecake, and then usually just pick up a couple of new scents each year just to try em out.. depends on the mood I reckon..lol..... HTH:D Just a side note, this year I am trying out peppermint patty and jackfrost.... will let you all know how they turn out.
  24. just for my clarification... wickless candles.... container candles without the wick..... right? lol
  25. just wanted to say Welcome to the board ladybug... and I have to agree with everyone on here.. get a starter kit, and prepare for the addiction to kick in....lol... I started out with a few slabs, 10 FO's and a pack of wicks...... that didnt last long at all...... now I am up to offering almost 40 scents... and have branched out into pillars, ornies, air fresheners.... and the list goes on.... so again... welcome...
