  1. not sure what all you do, but what I would do is place them upside down on a small tray and put them in the oven.... when the wax melts, take a paper towel or rag and wipe them out.. and if that doesnt work, use a little OOPS in the jar... HTH
  2. I use the OK6228... which I just found out actually.....lol... anyway, If you do your first pour at 175 and second at 185, they turn out fantastic. As for testing, I dont use that big of a mold, but with my 3 x 3 I use flat braid #24 and it seems to work really well. for that big of a candle, I would start out maybe with maybe the next size up or see what your mold recommends.... I am fairly new to pillars, but wanted to put in my 2 cents worth
  3. I use the liquid coloring in my soy candles, and the rule of thumb that I was told is 10 drops maximum per lb. Soy by nature will cause the colors to bleach a little, giving you more of a pastel look to it. HTH:)
  4. I worked my regular hours, got a small fund raiser started, went home.... ate dinner, and played Aces High until Survivor came on, then went to bed, and now starting my day all over again at work. lol... Unfortunately I dont have to make that many candles lately. Do to over saturation in my area, I am having to find different ways to get back on track, which is a very slow process...
  5. The new site changes look awsome!!!! Keep up the excellent work:yay:
  6. well holy cow.. thanx for that tip Dana... I guess I will just stick with what I have...lol.. Here is the problem I am having... I use the thinnner aluminum molds that I got from PEAKS. The ones they have on clearance. The candles set up fantastic, and the second pour is really small. But when I take it out of the mold, I have what looks like compression lines all around the candle.. I did my first pour at 165 and the second at 170 as per NG's directions.... I will try the pour at 185 to see if that helps... but any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. You people ROCK!!!!!!
  7. thanx for that info. I found the 6228 at a local supplier. How much FO did you use? I typically use between 1 and 1.5 oz per lb. I think I am gonna try and test this wax to see how I like it. thanks again for the info. Oh yeah, try a search for Tri-state candle supply. I think its listed somewhere on the forums.... if not just do that search.... they carry it and it seems like a fairly good price...
  8. Welcome aboard... lotsa nice people on here...
  9. I tried the link, says it cant be found.... I will keep searchin tho...
  10. Ok, here is my delima. I am new to pillars, and have been trying to use MP145 from NG. Its a good wax, but doesnt always come out smooth. I was lookin around for new wax and came across a local company that sells OK6228/1 wax. Its supposed to be a preblended wax. Has anyone used this and if so, what did you think? I am only makin 3 x 3 pillars for now, some smooth and some grubby/cake. If no one has used this, what is a good preblend pillar wax? Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated. :smiley2:
  11. From my point of view, when testing, you may get the occasional black puff of smoke... but as long as its not continual or thick black, you should be ok. All wicks will have some degree of smoke.... just the nature of the beast...lol..... anyway... HTH:)
  12. To the best of my knowledge, most zinc wicks are made to the same standards..... maybe with some slight differences.... HTH
  13. where do you all get your blanks and do you all cut your fo or use it straight? these sound very cool as I am lookin for things to add to my line.. thanx in advance:smiley2:
  14. Vanilla is notorious for discoloring. It will turn a brownish color after it sets awhile, so that may be the culprit. It may also be the tins in combo with it. What you may try is to use some white coloring in the candles that you use vanilla in.... HTH
  15. it all depends on the FO you use... some may only need 24-48 hours, but some need more time. I use a soy blend wax and I make soft tarts out of it.. people seem to like em..... but I try to let them cure as long as I can. HTH
  16. I use a soy blend wax from NG, (JOY wax) and I use it in 10oz and 16oz apothecary hars. I also do the pints.. I started using zinc core wicks, but have recently switched to HTP wicks. These wicks were supposedly the primary wicks used in Gel, but alot of people who use soy are converting to those. I love the melt pool, they way they burn, etc. The only minor problem I can find is that if you dont keep the wick trimmed after each burn, it tends to smoke a little.... but not too bad. Anyway, this was just my 2 cents worth. HTH:cheesy2:
  17. I cant say for sure, but there are 2 ways that I would look into becoming a supplier. First off, check with some of the supplier companies to see if they have in plans of expanding or have any programs that would allow you to sell their products.. you would probaby have to set up a wholesale account at minimum. You could also just buy in bulk from different suppliers, break it down to smaller sale items and just do a small mark up. These are just my ideas, as I dont know for sure... but if you all find out, let me know
  18. I dont mix anymore than 7lbs in mine. I tried 8 once, and it got a little too full for my comfort, so between 6-7 lbs you should be good to go. hth:D
  19. Can't help ya with the crackle question as I am new to pillars myself, but wanted to say WELCOME TO THE BOARD... lots of good advice around here....
  20. I just wanted to add my 2 cents worth in . Everyone is right on the money when they say start with a kit. A mistake that I made, and a few others from what I have read, is dont try to do too much at once. I read and read so many bulletin boards, and there are so many fantastic ideas, waxes, FO's, etc that its hard not to try them all..... but give it time.... find one thing that you do well, and expand on it. Dont limit yourself to just 1 kit. Try one, then another..... just to get a feel for what you like and dont like. I was strictly containers up until a few weeks ago, but now I am trying pillars. The arent as nerve wracking as I originally thought. Anyway, the point is, practice makes perfect.... dont give up... and always remember, you have all of us out here in cyber land to help, support, and just give encouragement if ya need it.. Welcome to your newest addiction
  21. try briar hollow..... send her an email and she will send you a password and sign in information.... she has some really nice electric tart melters..... only down side is you have to buy 100 bucks worth..... but thats still not too bad www.briarhollow.com HTH
  22. The only thing I can see is the base of the candle mold. Some of the molds come with a base attached to em, some of the thinner molds dont.... is that what your talkin about:confused:
