  1. its a layer candle. Yaley's has that mold and one that is round. From what I have read you can use any good pillar wax. Thought bout trying one but I dont have the patients for that...lol..
  2. I use a soy blend, and most definately you have to let it cure. Depending on what FO you use, it may take anywhere from 2 days to a week.... but the thing is, once its cured, it seems to get stronger.. which is a good thing.. I have noticed that in the pillars I am starting to make, usually after 1 day, they are at full strength... HTH
  3. Thanx bunches.... you people are the greatest.... This is actually the 3rd burn, and so far I have burned it for a total of 8-10 hours, so I think I have it right... will just keep on keepin on... I am gonna do some more this weekend, so I will try to post some pics... thanx again:grin2:
  4. Ok ladies and gents of the pillar makign community, I have a question for you all. I am testing some pillars I made (my firsts). I am using OK6228, 24 flatbraid and a 3 x 3 3/4in mold. I made the candle to specs, and it came out ok. At least not bad for a first try. I have burned it 3 times already, each time for over 2 hours. I have a good melt pool, and it has dropped maybe 3/4 of an inch down. My question is I have about a 1/4 inch ring left on the outside. Should I wick up? Or is this an ok burn? It has great throw both hot and cold, so I have that part right... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  5. maybe just a hint of blue in the pink... mite get ya where ya want... JMHO
  6. For the most part, just chillin and getting ready for a craft show in about 2 weeks.. almost there, just have a few extra little candles to make and somemore ornies.. other than that I am just restin. been a long week
  7. LIke posted above, they are a combo of Gel and wax. The way I make em is to use scented gel in the scent of the pie im makin, and the embeds are also scented, as well as the crust. I am hoping to start making my own, but thats another story...lol
  8. thanx for the input. That gets me on the right track
  9. I bought some similar to that a few years ago, and they sold like crazy. Especially if you use xmas scents.. fairly easy to wick too...
  10. Basically what I do is use a Kerosene heater in my shop on those really cold days.. I go out an hour or so before I am ready to work, fire it up, and then it makes the room nice and toasty. You can turn it down once the room is at the temp you want, and then you can just do your thing. I have a 24 x 24 shop above my garage. Hope this helps ya some.
  11. ok... here is my question.. not sure if this is the right place or not. I want to make my own embeds and embed molds. I know BC has the silicone to make the molds, but want to know the best wax to make the embeds. Can I use my existing OK6228 wax? or do I need something harder? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  12. 1. What was the first candle you made and how did it turn out? Container candle using JOY wax.. turned out better than expected 2. What resources did you use to research candle making? NG's BB to start with, but have used a few more since then 3. Did you use dyes and FO on your first? Yes 4. Do you have a special room or space you use exclusively for your candle making (basement, garage, etc...), or do you use your kitchen? I built a second story onto my garage, so I have a 24 x 24 shop. I split its use as I also do some small stained glass projects. 5. Any suggestions on how I should start (maybe what you think is the "easiest" to make)? Votive kits 6. Have any tips that I have not found on this site that may be helpful? 7. If you could only make one type kind of candle for the rest of your life, what would that be? too hard to choose, but would say probably containers 8. What is your ultimate candle, the greatest candle you dream of making (and have not yet)? triple layer/scented pillar candle
  13. I use the identa ring thru my local phone company(verizon actually). Its included in my package. That number rings twice so I know its a business call.
  14. I use sucker bags. The ones you can get from any supply place that sells candy making stuff. I use em for my ornies, and just use one of those potatochip bag sealers, and a cardstock tag.. if I can get my camera to cooperate I will post a pic here shortly... HTH
  15. check out www.sfherb.com they sell bulk potpouri fixins.... not sure what their price is, but I do have the link so I thought I would put my 2 cents in:D
  16. I use em all the time, and they work out great. keep your eyes open and you can find em on sale for .50 each.. gotta love the dollar store and BigLots..lol
  17. its mostly a judgement call on what to take. You may take just a few items, and sell out quick, or you may take everythign and not sell but a few things... this year has been kinda tricky with craft shows. I have only done 1 this year and was a total flop.. but last year I did well.... but I am off topic a little...... what I do is take a few of each, in several of my best selling scents.. if someone wants somethign different, it helps set up outside sales... just my opinion.. HTH:smiley2:
  18. I just did a quick look thru, as I am at work, but I liked the site.. easy to navigate, and it fit my screen just like it should. Pages loaded well too, but I have DSL at work... I will try it from home cause I only have dial up.. which sux... so that will be a true test...lol..
  19. I use JOY wax, which is a soy blend wax, to make my tarts. I will warn ya ahead of time, that they are very soft, but do hold their shape very well. Scent throw is pretty awsome. I did that because JOY is what I started with. But since shipping is going out of this world, I am switching over to J223 for my containers (at least thats the plan). I also use the 6228 for my pillars, and since most people use the 50/50 mix, I figure I will jump on that band wagon too. lol.... Anway, if you want to try soy blend, I would highly recommend JOY from NG.... HTH:D oh yeah. forgot to add. I use 1.5oz per lb and never have a problem with seeping...
  20. My house is somewhat of a zoo as well, but we have 4 very spoiled outside cats who are very big lap kitties. I planted some catnip a few years ago, and forgot all about it. Well, this year that stuff is everywhere, and I have 4 VERY happy kitties.. its fun to watch..... and to be honest, would love to be able to dup that scent... would make a neat candle I think....lol
  21. I agree, if you want to do your own, start with yellow and add a touch of brown till its the color you want... I use liquid dye, so its just a tad easier. only problem is I sometimes forget how many drops I used, so I have to start back at square one...lol... but its all good
  22. sounds to me like you have it right. but then again, thats just my opinion
  23. Try here... they have that FO http://tristatecandlesupply.safeshopper.com
