  1. It’s really crazy. I used to make a sunflower soap because it was cheaper than olive, due to Ukrainian situation sunflower is going to be unavailable or super expensive for whatever stock is left
  2. I see a lot of candle marketed as soy, soy coconut but they do have paraffin in them. All soy urban myth. Frankly just soy is terrible but people have been brainwashed. Soy gmo etc.
  3. Coconut oil has doubled in price. I used to buy at Webrestaurant for 35 dollars, now 70! Jeesh.
  4. I’m not a pro soap maker by any means but love making the stuff in summer when its a slower pace. Keep recipes simple to begin with, get fragrance oils rated for soap making. Although I love making soap prices for oils are insane.
  5. Use distilled only for soap making. I buy dried calendula and use on top and in soap. Calendula is nice to use in soaps because it doesn’t turn color. Parsley as well. Lavender no in soap turns dark and then looks like 🐜. Teas change soap color.
  6. Eco tank not waterproof? Inkjet? Here is a thought. I have some candles from various places, the inkjet labels all have smudges from damp hands etc.
  7. Add more soy wax. Try C3 it’s more on the matte side but you will have to test because it Has adhesion qualities, so you have see what percentage give you matte and realease ability.
  8. Try the small cds and or CDN. You can get 2, 3, 4. You could try the lx but your choice will be 8, 10 for double wicking in that wax and diameter. Now let’s say you are close with double wicking but still a little ho, just adjust your wax formula with some soy to make it harder. Sometimes you gotta do what you have to. Some of those jars at three inches and little more can be a pain in tooshy to wick. If getting wicks an issue but you can get soy, I wold adjust your wax.
  9. It sounds like a draft. Try moving your candle to different spots and test. If not then you maybe overwicking. Why don’t you try two small wicks in that jar. What wax are you using? Parasoy try cd 3, cd 4. Lx 8, 10
  10. Love my garden! I’m doing the big zinnias, and growing dinnerplate dahlias. Obsessed with those. Finally got the supports right with tomato cages. Regarding organizing waxy things. I have a rolling metal cart bought on Amazon. It’s great for holding waxes, and supplies and you can shift around. Have some ikea storage bins with tops for wax. All my oils are in waterproof bins I bought Home Depot - locking lids hold smell in and prevent spills. Those are kept on rolling metal shelves | Home Depot - you can adjust shelves height and they can be broken down for moving. These are super handy and easy to clean. You can get 3-4-5 shelves. Water proof totes locking tops IRIS Home Depot. Excellent!
  11. Totally off topic, just seeing Tall Tayl’s zinnias! Planting the giant ones this year, they are supposed to be the dinner plate size of zinnias!
  12. Also if you raise percentage of 4627 you will not have issue, dirty or clean glassware.
  13. Just saw this. Love the paper wick idea. Busybee is on to something!
  14. I do wash wash glasses in dishwasher, and it I want super sparkling you add some TSP powder as well, that gets rid of any residue. You can use plain in dishwasher as well. They use to put in cleaning formulas but because it has phosphate in it manufacturers took it out.
  15. There is no organic soy wax. Beeswax plain is probs the safest. Unscented.
  16. Many fo’s either will have interaction with medium, or age darker, or age darker if they have vanilla. Many fragrance compounds are different shades. Some if they have essential oils in them will be various hues. You have to test.
  17. You could try adding sunflower wax, or carnauba to your blend. Palm free. You will have to test percentages. Did not love the 487. I test same way as Talltayl. Abuse the candles in warm weather, and also winter months too. That will really tell you how you candle holds up!
  18. Stick around .5 per cent. Yes, it does seem to help with lather. Adding glycerin for one, and the thickener stabilize bubbles.
  19. It can do that if you add too much! .5 % is nice, get past 1% you are heading for goo and blobs. You must add to some glycerin, stir well then add water, gentle heat. It will hydrate and then stick blend.
  20. Ok I forgot to add, for HEC or similar thickener the key is to disperse powder into some glycerin then add soap or water. Allow to hydrate very well. Just leave overnight to make sure then stick blend. Use some heat. See blog for instructions. Most of the gums I use work better after being in glycerin solution then water added, then heat helps hydration. I don’t use full glycerin, just part. Works better than just water or full glycerin. http://alaiynab.blogspot.com/2014/03/thickening-liquid-soap-with.html#more I do not go over 1 per cent of HEC for thickening, but that’s personal choice. You obviously can make a very thick soap gel with it.
  21. Yes with HEC .5 per cent, works great. You can use coco betaine, or salt but the HEC works the best. http://alaiynab.blogspot.com/search/label/tutorial See link above for tutorials! If you sub some of the water with glycerin you can make soap paste very quickly. I do a 10 or 20 percent olive oil, to Coconut oil. I like it better as it’s not so olive oil smelling obviously. Makes great body soap, hand soap
  22. But its so fun to make! Anyway I like the coconut oil Castile way better than the olive. I find the olive too vegetal without scent.
  23. Some fragrance in liquid will seize the soap or thin it, so again testing. Many will cloud it. I do a low super fat so that I can add fragrance without issue. Peppermint and lavender have been ok.
  24. Above the comment about what fo’s for liquid soap. The issue is liquid soap is very hard to fragrance and keep clear without resorting to solubilizers.
  25. I have seen that video. http://alaiynab.blogspot.com/2013/09/adventures-in-liquid-soapmaking-hints.html If you go to the website, she has good info on making liquid soap. I find it very easy to make paste. I do glycerin method and soap comes together very fast. I don’t like a pure Castile but do more coconut with some olive oil thrown in.
