Best method for making a small amount of lip balm
Moonstar replied to KB12's topic in Bath, Body & Cosmetics
Is it possible to make 3-5 and just put them aside or give a few as just because gifts i find they just don't come out the same for some reason imo -
Today I was at Anthropology and naturally Im drawn to the candles and bath + body section Im always amazed at how soft the candles smell yet when you burn them they're really nice, not too strong . Personally, I don't like things that blow you out of the house, to me that smells cheap _personal preference But the coconut scents they have always smell great - wish I could find a great coconut - my search continues !
-
I like the SFIC + order from peak - the honey base is really good especially mixed with the GM base. Try adding less clay, maybe 1.5 tbl instead of 3 i add it slowly right before i remove from heat + use a whisk to really incorporate it in . wsp has descent bases too I've tried the detergent free i like the coconut - the 3 butter and baby buttermilk
-
yes... coconut, I think is hard to find a good one. the only one I've find that i like is bb fo - citrus coconut ... it's so good but a straight up coconut fo I can't find. Also, i just received a fo from wsp - beach, it had a ton of great reviews... did not care for it at all ! very perfumey + cheap smelling imo although the sun ripened strawberry was not too bad

I recently placed an order with Bitter Creek + personally, I wasn't crazy about the lavender or the berry verbena. To me, they smelled soapy in a way and I couldn't smell any of the verbena, and verbena is typically strong. Granted, my opinion is from smelling out of the bottle only + have not used in wax or soap since I wasn't happy OOB .... maybe I'll try them in wax + I'll have a different opinion ???

I've decided to use C-3 wax
Moonstar replied to back2basics's topic in Vegetable Wax & Beeswax Candle Making
interesting on the citrus cranberry ... what other fillmore FO have you tried that you liked/disliked. Im ready to place another order. -
I'm surprised BB lavender fo did not hold up well, i found that it works well. as the other said try CS lavender ... also, if your looking for EO have you tried eden botanicals ? their quality is amazing but lavender can be pricey i haven't tried the lavender grosso but from what i recall its more economical + often used in soap making ... i use their eo for lotion + in oils .

So i just now am testing a wax melt that i made with ICS - zuchinni bread FO i added a bit of CS banana nut bread .... OMG it smells amazing - if you like that type of scent, of course. Another one that is really good that I've tried is peach cobbler - I can't get over how realistic they are ! I tried orange chiffon cake but not a fan. the wild berry mouse is awesome though as is the pink sugar - sugar cookie dough - sugared shortbread - pink sugar needs a long cure 2-3 weeks + is WAY better in soy than parasoy - IMO Also, i was browsing old posts looking for a good vanilla bean noel + i saw Tennessee candle but lots of talk of them out of things etc. i emailed them last night inquiring about availability, i got a response this morning & was told it was in stock - has anyone ordered recently ? I'm only asking because in the forums it sounded they were going out of business due to health reasons - that always makes me sad our health is the most important thing

i will for sure same here for the banana nut bread from CS, but like you, Im always searching lol ! I did make some wax tarts with lemon pound cake -Peak and was excited to try it out since the CT was really nice , but it didn't seem strong as a tart. Maybe because its a citrus + its a big room idk ? Im still plugging away at wax blends for tarts. Im ordering the Golden tart blend -Fillmore and decided to add a bit of palm wax + see how that works out. Im with you on the coconut - really tough to find, they all smell artificial to me

Kandlekrazy ... for me they weren't too bad, but I'm also a neighboring state - MI . i couldn't be happier - glass amber bottles were a nice surprise but the down side to that would if your a long distance from them - it ups the weight - shipping cost- but i love the glass bottles. Most importantly, the quality was really good.

DOES PARASOY OR PARAFFIN CHANGE FOOD SCENTS
Moonstar replied to Moonstar's topic in General Candle Making Discussions
Yes, you are ALL 100 % correct, it's just so darn frustrating Moonshine, I agree on your method . First choose your wax + work from there. For melts, what has worked pretty well for me is ecosoya pillar blend with some container wax - but it doesn't work for all fragrances. So far it's worked for bakery type scents, but they need a long cure - min of 1.5 weeks . Theres just something about the paraffin wax that I don't care for - not sure what it is, as I'm lacking the experience all of you have . I so greatly appreciate all of your input. I did notice Fillmore carries a soy wax for tarts -Golden brand, I think I'll try that since they offer it in 5lb bags /$6.00 or if you buy 2 bags its $10.00 not bad Ill share my findings as i figure things out ! thanks again everyone !- 12 replies

DOES PARASOY OR PARAFFIN CHANGE FOOD SCENTS
Moonstar replied to Moonstar's topic in General Candle Making Discussions
Interesting, thank you in your experience what is a good guideline as far as wax types + percentages go. Will that apply to tarts as well ? Im just so confused right now. I read so many opinions even from suppliers, that my head is spinning some say soy + a few tbls of palm wax per lb others swear by parasoy + others say only soy wax - not sure if they mean a container or PB ? AHHH .... i feel a headache coming on LOL ! I really enjoyed reading your post ....thank you !- 12 replies

DOES PARASOY OR PARAFFIN CHANGE FOOD SCENTS
Moonstar replied to Moonstar's topic in General Candle Making Discussions
wonder why that is ? i poured pink sugar in soy and some in a parasoy, the one in soy was much softer + prettier. I love the pink sugar from ICS. The pink sugar does need a 2-3 week cure, longer is better though I've noticed- 12 replies

So Frustrated...464 - 415 - Ecosoya Xcel
Moonstar replied to back2basics's topic in Vegetable Wax & Beeswax Candle Making
moonshine what wicks do like with the 415. i've been thinking about trying that wax, can it be used for wax melts as well ? I noticed you said you've used the C3 for melts, unless i read incorrectly lol ! what is USA , is that a supplier I've never heard of them ? also, where have you found the best place for wax + wicks. i'm in michigan not sure what part of the country your in as far as shipping goes. thank you in advance -
Makes sense Faeryren do you primarily EO's or fragrances ? Im having a hard time find a good coconut eden botanicals has a coconut pulp c02 which is incredable but on the pricey side, so i use it for personal use. They also have a great cocoa but its not oils soluble.

Im getting ready to place an order for roller bottles and am going with the stainless + the longer - skinny bottles I think they look great + really professional . Plus they seem to be trending right now Ive never used perfume oils.com
-
wonder what it is about a perfume base that makes it leak in a rollerball ? interesting ... thank you
-
dandytea88... I know I have seen the same base once but i can't remember the name What I do remember is that they were located in Ohio I know they are the same because the ingredients were identical as well as the name . Do a quick google search for body butter bases. If I find it I'll let you know How do you like the bases you received, do they have a drag. I find many bases have that drag when rubbed in, i don't care for that. although the goat milk + honey lotion base for WSP is pretty nice. Found it ... check it out to compare ingredient list http://www.bathbodysupply.com/Tropical-Butter-Cream-p/cl2000-5.htm
