  1. You all are so right. I have been testing candles since 2012 and sometimes feel like I still don't have my candle the way I really want it. During test burns, I notice my candle wicks burns really nice and rather steady, Until, it gets down inside of the jar. It flickers like you wouldn't believe. This just goes to show how candles burn differently from the top to the bottom. Unfortunately, this is the only way to know how it will burn with your customers/family/friends. What you see is what they will see and get when they have your candle.
  2. Hi Kinesis, I would try zinc wicks for both waxes. I use 6006 with zinc wicks. I can't suggest a starting point since I don't know the size of your candle loaf. HTH
  3. Hi Dana, I have never done a huge show like this but I have heard they are expensive to enter. If she has shown interest to sit in for you, I think it should be just that, sitting in for you. If sounds as if she will has the opportunity to attend this show without having to pay the cost associated. I'm not sure how you all came to an agreement for her to sell her stuff. However, I think I would've gotten someone else to work the show for me. Someone who I don't do business with in this manner. When you say, she will double her money on a consignment type basis, do you mean she will sell some of your product as her own, keep the money but then you will make the products for her that she will purchase after the show. Or will she have the option to sell some of your stuff as her own and pay you once the show is over. I'm asking because it was a little confusing.
  4. I'm test burning 6006 as we speak and so far I haven't seen any wet spots although this wax seems to be proned to it lol. I keep my jars in the even on a 170 degrees which is the warm setting. I only remove them right before I mix my fragrance. The glasses will be very hot to touch but I use a oven mitten. So far this seems to help but slow cooling also helps. Ray have you tried covering your candles like in a cardboard box to help slow the cooling of the candles? HTH
  5. Bells Bells, C-3 is known for it's great cold/hot throw. The throw you get will depend on the quality of fragrance oils being used. Keep in mind different fragrance oils may not throw well in any wax. Some fragrances smells nice in the bottle but once you test it, you will realize the hot throw isn't there. Double wicking a 3" container will make the jar too hot but of course you should test for yourself. It will also cause a deep melt pool, which will shorten the burn time/hours. Double wicking means you will get a faster melt pool. A good hot throw comes from quality oils, cure times and what ever else someone may decide to put in their candles. Different candle makers uses different things/additives in their candles. HTH
  6. Thanks for sharing, I just may sample a few!
  7. Trappeur, In my experience eco wicks burn hotter than htp's. I'm sure the two Eco-10 wicks are going to be a torch in that 3" jar lol. In a 3" jar the eco 12 seems to work well but I have never used your wax type. So, I don't know how it may behave with a eco-10.
  8. I'm sorry you're not liking C-3. From my knowledge it's a 100% soy wax and doesn't contain paraffin at all. If your flame is too high, it may mean your wick is too big or it's too much fragrance. It's nice to hear you have smooth tops which is a good thing. What size containers are you using and what type of wicks. Htp works well with C-3. With the wet spot, do you warm your containers and at what temp are you pouring your wax. You may try slowing the cooling process of your candles to avoid the wet spots. The room temperature also has a lot to do with how C-3 sets up as well, I told you it's a finicky wax lol. Like a previous poster said, you can try tempering your C-3 it does make a difference.
  9. I have never used Vybar in melts either. I have used 2oz fragrance oil in melts and it has seeped out. You could see the sweat droplets on top. If your melts are not strong enough, you may want to remove the Vybar if you have used it in previous melts. The longer the melts sit the stronger they tend to get.
  10. Flicker, that's what I use in that jar size a htp 126.
  11. Hi Pixie, did you try double wicking? If so, how did it turn out?
  12. Hi AZsunset, since you are using a blend you may find the Htp wicks may be a better fit. HTP wicks burn hot which is needed for soy waxes. I'm testing candles as I type but it's IGI6006. I'm testing a htp and a eco wick in a 8oz jelly jar.
  13. Hi, I bought the ingredients to make bath bombs but haven't made them yet. I'm trying to figure out the type of colorant I will be using. I have food coloring, Micas, powered oxides, and soap colorant. Do anyone know if the soap colorants will work? I may just try it and see and use it on myself lol.
  14. You're welcome. I have used IGI4630 wax but not the status jars. This was is easy to work with and has good adhesion to jars. You can try increasing your pour temp by 5 degrees and try heating the jars maybe a little longer. One thing I know about this wax is the temperature will drop quickly once it's removed from the heat source. HTH
  15. Hi Steve6367, Like ChrisR said it's probably a wax issue. Maybe it's not being heated high enough or maybe the jar needs to be warmed before pouring. If you don't mind sharing, what type of wax are you using?
  16. Hi Pixie, I don't use the same wax as you but from what I understand double wicking is most often used with a 4" and larger jars but of course you can try it lol. In my experience with htp wicks burns hot and may not be needed in that size container.
  17. Hi MrsM, I'm sorry you had to scrap your palm candles. Did you like using/testing C-3? I started out with C-3 about two years ago and I must admit it's a finicky wax in my experience lol but it has great cold and hot throw.
  18. Hi Amandak, Yes. Although you have tested and feel like you have made perfect candles, consumers can and will always blame you for the product that you made. Even though a warning label is on the product, the truth is a lot of consumers do whatever they want with a product once they purchase it. That is why it is great to have insurance to cover you in case someone wants to blame you for making a faulty candle, even if they did leave it burning all day lol. I sold some candles to this lady, she told my husband that my candle almost burned down her store because she left a candle burning. She sat it on top of something but when she closed the door the candle fell over but fortunately she saw it. This goes to show how customers do silly things with a lit candle. The bottom line is cover yourself incase someone decides to do something silly with a candle. So, yes you need insurance and can be blamed.
  19. I mix the two because C-3 is such a finicky wax by itself. To me cb-advance helps with the glass adhesion, smooth tops without me adding any additives. Some people use universal soy additive, and get good results. I haven't tried this yet. I started out with C-3 and had alot of trouble with it. The ct is great but the ht isn't all that lol. Once the candle has been burned the tops looks ugly but not with this mixture, it smooth although you can tell the candle has been burned. I would start out testing the htp's 31, 41 & 52. I probably wouldn't go higher than a 52 because these wicks burn hot but depending on your candle formula you may need to test a 62. Try spacing your wicks about 1" apart but try not to get to close to the glass, you don't want it to get too hot. You can space them in the form of a triangle for good even spacing. Htp, eco,'s and cd wicks are clean burning, unless the wick is too big. So, how do your candles turn out using C-3? Do you use it by itself or you always add palm wax or something else. If I use C-3 by itself, it's gonna be trouble lol.
  20. You have a nice shop and your work is beautiful with vibrant colors. I don't have a shop at the moment, I work in a spare bedroom that I converted with my junk everywhere lol. I will post a video once, I get my room more organized, thanks for sharing.
  21. Ktaggard, I know exactly what you mean. I didn't think of it much but every since, I've ordered the one ouncers from Candlscience last year I could smell it. I thought the scent was in the box, so I throughout the box but can still smell it. It smells carmelish/hazlenutish, it smells sweet. I have the 1 ozers in a different box and can still smell it.
  22. Hi Purple, welcome to the board! If you don't mind sharing, what soy wax are you using? I use cargill c-3 and ecosoya cb advance.
