  1. And yet when I tried to get help from a supplier about one of their fragrance oils I had previously had good luck with but now is a dud, they said they were not aware of any changes in 464. They sell 464 and even had to send me two new cases after I contacted AAK about the problems. Ticks me off as now I wonder if any of their fragrance oils have been reformulated. When I inquired, they said "no, none of them." Can I trust them??? GoldieMN
  2. I, too, couldn't see why I would test without fragrance then again with fragrance. After this discussion, the light is dawning on me. Still not sure I want to continue making candles as even with testing and getting some kind of hot throw, I worry that customers won't have the good hot throw they are use to and will not return to buy. Or will tell others not to buy. I have a small customer base. Off to pour a tester without fragrance! GoldieMN
  3. Ha! I was wondering about those cat food cans @Trappeur asked about when you guys started talking about tin cans. I believe there is a hand-held can opener that cuts without the edges getting sharp. I actually don't think the edges of my cat food cans are sharp anyway. I have been using a star tin muffin for my salts as well as tarts and warmer as I broke the ceramic dish. It does get hot. May have to try a cat food can. GoldieMN
  4. So it is being suggested to put a small tin container of wax on a warmer? GoldieMN
  5. I haven't packaged any as they are taking FOREVER to dry. So far I've added 5 additional cups of salts to each mix! I started with 10% oil to salt. So now I am at about 5%. Anyway, I only use salt and fragrance oil in the mixture. Did you add something else? I bought small bakery bags with windows, polypropylene bags for lining (just in case as I don't want anything staining the outside bakery bag), small bottles (.5 ounce?), and Zazzle labels. I think the bakery bags hold a half pound. What is the weight of the salt bag you are selling? What are you mixing with your fragrance oil? I never saw anything about adding something until recently on this thread. GoldieMN
  6. I'm just wondering if we could simply bottle our fragrance oils as simmering/warming oils, nothing added. By the way, I planned to include a small bottle of fragrance oils with my solar salts to refresh the salts which may be used in a tart warmer by the customer. Wasn't planning to add anything else. GoldieMN
  7. Are warming oils simply our fragrance oils? GoldieMN
  8. If when you baked the beads at 330 for 8 minutes the edges were good but the middle was not done, I would have continued to bake them. I bake mine at 350 for 13 minutes. My oven may be off slightly; I haven't checked it. I would say the beads in the bottom half are melted but the tops still are beads but all stuck together. I have used the plain metal as well as coated metal cutters with the same good results. I am also using the Premium beads from that company. I just finished a three-day sale and sold a ton of them. Hang in there, if possible, until you get the oven temp and beads fine tuned. GoldieMN
  9. Yes, SE corner. My son lives in Cottage Grove. He is the Park HS softball coach, Cottage Grove Middle School SS teacher. Wife is elementary principal, Grey Cloud Elementary. GoldieMN
  10. @Trappeur I was using Candlescience Pumpkin Souffle, but it smells like Fillmore Nutmeg Ginger to me only lighter. I don't think I will reorder it. I don't need two scents that smell the same. Not sure if I ever tried RusticEscentuals Pumpkin Souffle. . . GoldieMN
  11. @Skk5233 Sounds good, thanks. GoldieMN
  12. My oven is probably off, but at least now I know what to set it at and how long to bake the ornaments. I know I have some roofing nails around here although drilling does tell me if the beads are not cooked enough. My ornaments run in size from about 3" to 4". Asking others about price, it has been suggested $2.25 to $7.00. Right now I'm thinking $5 for all shapes/sizes. Does that sound about right? I am just selling them around town, no shipping, no online selling. GoldieMN
  13. I had problems with a couple batches of PlasticPellets4Fun bead ornaments. They started coming apart when I drilled holes in for hanging. I noticed that area was softer and beads were flaking off so I put them back in the cutters and baked again. I sure hope this won't affect the throw! Now, I have to set my oven at 350 and bake for 13 minutes. GoldieMN
  14. For those having problems with beads coming apart, I have had success slipping the ornament back into the cookie cutter and baking again. Maybe those "bad" beads could be saved by baking longer. GoldieMN
  15. @ScentedPleasurez Yup, that Mistletoe is great! GoldieMN
  16. Rustic Escentuals: Spiced Pumpkin Latte, Amish Quilt, Christmas Bliss (although you may already have a similar pine that works for you). GoldieMN
  17. @TallTayl So 1.55% oil to salt to begin with. So we don't use anywhere near as much oil with salt as with wax or aroma beads. Looks like I need to go add more salt to my containers! GoldieMN
  18. Well, I searched the forum for recommended ratios of solar salt to fragrance oil. I was going to follow the 1 to 4 ratio used for aroma beads then realized that would mean 8 ounces of oil to 32 ounces of salt. Yikes! If that is what those people charging $20/lb. used, I can see why they charge so much. lol Anyway, I found four different ratios and decided to try the 10% oil to salt. Mixed today so we will see how they perform after dry. I know a few of you made these last year. Do you have any recommendations as to a good ratio of salt to fragrance oil that worked for you? Have they caught on with your customers? GoldieMN
  19. Isn't .25oz. to 1 lb. salt too light on the fragrance oil? If you follow 4:1 ratio, it would be 4 oz. to 1 lb. What is recommended for the salt crystals? Same as aroma beads? GoldieMN
  20. I would try to remove the $5 code then try the LABORDAY code. If that doesn't work, I would start all over by deleting everything from the cart. Or try contacting them? GoldieMN
  21. I was just telling my friend, today, how great my Kenmore sewing machine has been for the past umpteen years. Unfortunately, I don't think they make them anymore. Sears still sells sewing machines. Maybe check their website? GoldieMN
  22. I also had problems with Wholesale Supply Plus Jelly Donut throwing in 464. I won't be testing further but may use what I have left in aroma bead ornaments. Gosh, I hope these things sell! GoldieMN
