lightmyfire Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 Can anyone tell me what this wax ring is around the top of my candle? This is IGI 6006 (which I love) and about 2/10 candles end up with this mysterious ring. It's not a huge deal but it's a big pain to clean it off before I deliver to my customers. This is an 11 oz tumbler, FYI. Quote

TallTayl Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 Looks like the wax is shrinking that much as it cools Quote
lightmyfire Posted April 10, 2018 Author Posted April 10, 2018 I heat to 185, add FO and pour at 170. Quote
TallTayl Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 Could easily be simple shrinkage. Do you mark where you pour to? 1 Quote

Candybee Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 (edited) That's your pour line and like others have posted it also shows how the wax has shrunk a bit. It should melt off as you burn the candle. Edited April 10, 2018 by Candybee 1 Quote
Jcandleattic Posted April 10, 2018 Posted April 10, 2018 Yep, exactly as others have said - it's simple shrinkage. Quote
lightmyfire Posted April 10, 2018 Author Posted April 10, 2018 Great-thanks for the replies!! Call me crazy but I have designed a candle cocoon that I wrap around my candles as they cool. Sometimes I wrap it a bit lower on the tumbler and that's when I see the shrinkage. Since I work with small batches this process works for me. Obviously if I were pouring huge batches this would be crazy to try to do. 2 Quote
lightmyfire Posted April 11, 2018 Author Posted April 11, 2018 It's felt and stick on velcro tabs. I find these completely stop wet spots and are a huge help in the winter. 3 Quote

Now that I make sure they are pulled all the way to the top of the glass when the candles are cooling I don't get the waxy ring anymore and never, ever any wet spots. 1 Quote
barbaranj Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 Love the cocoon idea! So simple but brilliant! 1 Quote
Gary in Canada Posted May 20, 2018 Posted May 20, 2018 Cocoon idea is great...I may have to borrow that idea :-) I have recently switched to 6006...may I ask what type of wick you find works best in 6006? I've only tried HTP's so far. Thanks. Quote

Gary in Canada Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 Well...the ECO was a failure...smoked like a campfire. Its back to the HTP's. A 104 in a 2.5" glass jar seems to work good. Quote
Candle Rick Posted August 21, 2019 Posted August 21, 2019 @lightmyfire what temperature do you preheat your tumblers? Quote

You're not the only one. 😉 https://www.businessinsider.com/bath-and-body-works-success-store-photos-2019-6 1 Quote
