  1. I also use 464 but with the 8 ounce square mason jar, I primarily test with the cd10 and the htp 105- and I am finding in some of tests the cd10 gets very hot towards the end but the cd8 is not enough, drowns out. I like the cds much better than the htps, I find htp sometimes gives off a weird smell and the the hot throw is not as good- even though the burn is sometimes better- the htp 104's are never enough either For me the 10 has been the winner for the majority but I am retesting alot of the scents now in the cdn 10 to see if it makes a difference at all Let us know how it goes for you at the end- I would love to hear your results as I am always testing and questioning wick decisions!
  2. Peaks Downy Fresh!! It is awesome and super strong in soy!:smiley2:
  3. This is one of my favorite scents!! I am STILL trying to get this one wicked right- I have tried it in C3 and 464 and my normal range of wicks (CD's and HTP's) is not cutting it- however when I wicked up the glass got to hot for my comfort I have a couple curing right now with cdn wicks to see if that makes all difference- I hope so because everyone loves this in melts and wants candles for it now! I may have to resort to decreasing the amount of FO in this one, and hopefully it will have great HT But that is exactly what happened to me in both waxes with a couple of tests- burned fine but drowned right out to nothing and almost half a candle wasted
  4. The most important thing to me is scent throw- it HAS to throw like crazy! also no huge meteror sized mushrooms or soot spitting off the wick AND does not burn down the middle like a very popular huge brand (hmmm hmmm)- to where you have a container caked with wax on the sides and the wick drowns out before the candle can even finish I make soy and have never tried making paraffin BUT I do like burning paraffin candles....if they are made correctly!
  5. I am soooooo glad I read this thread- I just got my order in and stocked up for a long time- I have been out for so long and everyone keeps asking for it!! yaaaaaaaayy!! Thank you Thank you pleasureridgecandles!!
  6. I use small glass cylinder shaped measuring glass in 5 ounce size( I have 4 on hand)- you can get them at walmart / meijer/ target and just wipe out with paper towel when done- I tare the scale before pouring the FO I rarely make batches that require more than 5 ounces of FO but if I do I have 4 so I just measure out 2 Tried the dixie cup thing once and it leaked thru as fast as I was pouring it plus the glass is no waste
  7. I started off in my kitchen too- LOTS of complaining from the family not to mention I got to where I couldnt stand the "clutter" everywhere. Our basement is finished but what I did is put the smooth white surfaced plywood board over top of the air hockey table that the kids NEVER use and set up shop there- I set up a table in the storage part of the basement that has cement floors for acutal pouring and curing- It is cool down there and very damp but a dehumidifer runs all the time- as far as the temp being cool I have never had a problem with soy - my tops are perfect and I do not heat my jars- everything is done at the temperature of the room You will love having your own space...even though my setup is in the middle of the basement it is not in anyones way- I can watch tv, listen to the radio and pour pour pour! I would love to have a complete room to myself with counter tops, plugs and "built in" shelves....I had to buy some and hope nobody runs them over and topples everything!
  8. When I started making candles I did just that- 12% because 464 said you could do that and I thought the more the better..right? Very wrong in my experience- I had so many wicking issues and ugly greasy candles it was not funny When I tried the 1 ounce per pound I found for me, it was not enough, I could not get good strong hot throw at all - as I like my candles SUPER strong- so my range is 1.28 to 1.44 (8 or 9%) and I do still get some fragrances that are a B---- to wick at that percent- so I just use those scents in melts only and move on It is still costly doing them at my ratio but I cannot get 1 ounce per pound to smell in 464 and I have tried every wick out there- but cdn because of availability- but I did recently purchase some so I may go back and try it again- so many people can get that percent to work for them, and I would love it if I could to to save $$
  9. This is too funny that cowboy keeps coming up in the name.... I named my carribean teakwood- Midnight Cowboy I have a western line I am working on and this one reminds me of just that!
  10. After reading this thread I am really dissappointed- I just got samples from them and I have to say....holy Hot Throw! I got some of their yankee and bath and body dupes and I cannot believe how strong and accurate they are. But now I feel like I shouldnt order from them- I knew they were pricey but I thought it was because of the quality, but it sounds like she is a shipping crook- ugghhh! I won't help people like that make money they have not earned - now I have to search AGAIN for good dupes that work in my wax
  11. I use 464 and LOVE peaks- they are one of the top suppliers I use, have not tried one yet that does not throw like crazy in this wax!
  12. SOS has Strawberry ButterCream_ under retailer dupes... I don't know if you ever used them before- for me they are hit and miss and I definitely have to use at least the ultra concentrate in the ones I do like to get HT I have not come across Mountain Lodge anywhere and I have never tried it before to compare - sorry Good luck in your search and I will let you know if I come across it- I am going to read the description now- I used to be a yankee addict and have not kept on new scents since I started making my own!
  13. wsp- I got samples and poured them all last night in melts and tested them all today- it is amazing in a melt! cant wait to test a candle- it is very dead on to yankee- withches brew, autumn lodge, vanilla bean noel and sage and cinnamon are awesome also- there is alot of mixed reviews on this supplier- I almost passed but I havent been able to find these fragrances yankee retired anywhere else and the autumn lodge I have been using I have not been "in love" with. I am impressed so far...they are expensive but the shipping is included- I will have to compare to other suppliers as far as price goes
  14. I have many but Withes Brew....that's the fav of the month! It totally screams Fall to me, reminds me of the Renaissance Festival we have here all September long- its got the whole potions and incense thing going on
  15. Thanks- I will try that one out this weekend! yaaay:yay:
  16. I have tried those cotton core wicks way back when and for me they were no good in 464 CD and HTP I have found the best so far, so you may want to change that and you do need to heat this wax higher- I do not use dye so I cant help there but as far as FO goes I recommend no lower than 165 You will have to perform dozens and dozens of tests to see what works for you in your environment but my opinion is- your biggest problem is heat temp and wick, I have had success with this wax but it took a year and half to get there! Good Luck
  17. Lavender is one of my favorites from CS....never thought of mixing it with clean cotton- I do make the Clean Cotton but am not a huge fan...I might have to try that mix:cheesy2: Does it have a similar scent like the fabric softners with lavender?
  18. Just so that you know...If you all jump off a cliff I will NOT follow! LOL BUT... mine will be here Friday- I am such a weakling*faint*
  19. Karen- I know...that scent is amazing along with autumn lodge and dune grass- have you tried the wsp FO for this? I am curious if its good in wax and worth the $$ I got a 2 ounce sample here last week and need to get moving on pouring it! OOB it smells dead on and so does the autumn lodge - I have been using LS version of lodge and it is good not as strong as I would like it to be in my wax (straight 464)
  20. I think the Jack Frost is very similar- with the exception of the frost having pine in it making it not so sweet But that also was a couple years ago when I went through about 4 tarts a day with them....until I learned to make my own! I do remember it being fairly weak also, maybe the jack frost with more vanilla added would work- they have that oil at wsp, I just got the autumn lodge(one of my favorites) and vanilla oak from there so I cant say how good they are....expensive though- but the shipping is included in the price of the oil
  21. Really? I use 464 straight and I use the 8 ounce square masons and find a CD 12 in most fragrances is way to hot- I have never even tried a 14 let alone a 20...I am amazed, do you add anything to your wax? For the most part CD 10's work for me- at first with the corners there is some hang up but it does catch up and the glass doesnt get to hot- the 12's for me, and I know there are many other variables involved, are way to hot- I get way to deep of melt pool and the glass burns to the touch
  22. haha! Me too I just like the smells that come with it and the occasional snowed in so I dont have to go to work!!
  23. Thanks Islandgirl! and yes rosehip seed is the best money I ever spent and cheaper too huh? still cannot believe all the million dollar bottles of LIES I bought over the years! LOL!! Candybee- yes Peaks is killer peppermint- the best I ever tried and going to pour my candles this weekend in it- I stocked up during their 15% sale!! Love the idea of mixing with creme brulee- is that Peaks also?
  24. I am not the greatest at describing scents but here I go.... It goes two ways for me... the first being the anticipation of a huge winter storm...snuggled up on the couch with a hot cup of coffe watching a amazing movie with the fireplace roaring and hearing the wind whipping outside and seeing the snow flying out the window... the spice notes in it make me think of "indoors" winter Next being the morning after the blizzard- when I go outside to feed the horses and the snow is sooo crisp and sparkly without a mark on it- the sun shining making the trees look like glass the air crisp and sharp and the sky as blue as can be... the balsam cedar and eucalyptus notes make think of "outdoors" winter Those are the thoughts that come to my mind when burning this- the notes I pick up on are cedar, balsam fir a hint of spice (the clove) and a hint of sweet(not sure what)- its one of those that you keep smelling something a little different every time you walk by it but it always evokes thoughts of winter- not just Christmas
  25. Not only candle nose....I am getting very dizzy/light headed when I pour lately- not a fun feeling at all, never happened before so maybe my sinuses are plugged also:confused: What I need to be is content with what I have and stop testing! I cant even keep track of what is what anymore
