  1. I just looked that up and wow! never realized they had fragrance oils- They also have Dune Grass which I loved also!! I will put in a small sample order and check it out... Thank you very much and thanks for the offer of the sniffy but I will just place a small order seeing they have more than 1 I could like! Do you know if they are good with soy wax? I use 464 and C3
  2. You wont regret it- oob it does not smell that amazing- its in the wax -it comes alive, very different and cozy!
  3. For me it would be hands down Peaks WINTER WONDERLAND- it not only smells like xmas it reminds me of long cold snowy nights wrapped up in a snuggie watching a good movie with fireplace roaring! I love CS Mistletoe also- that is one of my favorites I keep all year round and rename Northwoods.
  4. A couple of years ago Yankee discontiued the Holiday Sage fragrance and I have been trying for months to find one similar- does anyone know of this fragrance and have any suggestions? I dont even know how to describe it....sage, pine a little cinnamon and something with a hint of sweet
  5. SOS was definately hit or miss for me- for candles I would recommend at least the ultra concentration- but it is more expensive There are so many other companies that have just as good oils for less money IMHO. But when you find a fragrance you want you check the size you want and under that is the option to "upgrade" the concentration- I only use a couple with them now because I have not been able to find those scents anywhere else... Addict and Autumn Lodge and I buy them in Xtreme which makes them pretty pricey but I have people that pay it because they love them. It is easiest and less confusing to shop by category and I have always been the "safest" buying dupes. There is something about their oil that just does not work that great in my wax (464) I get better throw with others but the 2 I mentioned do throw well and I did try them in ultra and got very little throw so I upgraded again. Whatever you do stay away from bluegrass- that is the nastiest, rank, disgusting smell I ever came across- took weeks to get the stench out of my house!! Good luck!!
  6. -I second CS mistletoe and Frank & Myrrh- good sellers -Elements has rocky mountain Xmas that is wonderful- I smell more of the woody than pine so it is not to overwhelming at all -NG cranberry spice is awesome -Peaks winter wonderland and peppermint are huge hits around here -CS cinnamon buns is real good -JS cinnamon, nutmeg, clove is really really good also does anyone have a hands down pumpkin pie fragrance supplier? I cannot find one that I like- CS is weak and the souffle is awful (burnt smell)
  7. Hi Trappeur- I have been away from the forum for awhile- This is our busiest time of year with our "real" business and I now have a little time to get back to candles and check out what's going on! I have been using 464 for some time now but recently decided to try the C3 - I was curious to see if it DID throw better. I have only tested 3 fragrances so far and I did NOT use any additives and I use CD wicks with 9% FO -In the 8 ounce square mason jar I tested Peaks Downy Fresh with a CD10 and it was awesome- VERY strong, beautiful tops and excellent flame -same jar with a CD 10 also, I tried NG cracklin Birch (LOVE this fragrance) and it was a complete dud- no throw and very greasy like in texture- I think I may have to cut back FO load and wick up to a 12 on that -same jar with a CD 10 also, I tried CS mistletoe and that to was awesome- strong and excellent flame I thought the same about candle cocoon- very over priced for the CDN wicks and I have not been able to find them anywhere else without having to buy a 1000 at a time- I am very curious if they would burn better in the C3 AND 464 I have not tested enough of the C3 wax yet to know if I like it better- I am probably crazy for even trying it seeing that I have the 464 down pretty well....but THANK YOU for sharing your information- That is very helpful and generous of you! I just may try some of the CS fragrances in C3 because I have most of them already here and waiting for something! oh and I did try the Marijuana!! LOL it is soooooo gross- I wanted to barf....thankfully I only tried the 1 ounce in melts and threw them right out the door! and I agree- it would be very nice to have more information like this shared:)
  8. Hey Islandgirl_ Its been awhile since I have been on here....I have always wondered about this companies fragrance oils- are you using them in soy or parrafin? I recently got samples from elements and so far the throw in soy is not as strong as I would like, so just wondering what your using with SS. Thanks
  9. Candlescience's Angel is amazing....it is very deep and earthy, with a touch of patchouli Everyone that comes in my office when I have this one going cannot get over the smell and end up buying some- its very seductive, lasts a very long time- in a melt anyways, I am still trying to wick it correct in a candle, it is a very heavy oil
  10. I have tried the following in soy candles- 464 to be exact and I use CD wicks -Autumn Lodge- Ultra and Extreme -Addict- Ultra -Woodlands- Ultra -Lemon Lavender- Ultra -Eucalyptus- Ultra -Clean Cotton- Ultra They all were good in a candle and excellent in a melt- I think there is a big difference in strength from ultra to extreme but the price is a big difference as well The scents above were dead on from the retailer duplications woodlands was pretty weak but the rest threw very well- especially the autumn lodge extreme hope that helps some- I have ordered from them a year ago and hated the ones I chose...dont order bluegrass- it smells like the worst old lady perfume gone rank in the world and you CANNOT get rid of the smell- I did not like their lavender or the pink grapefruit either- very chemical like- this time around I stuck to best sellers in the retailer duplications and was very pleased, however I do think extreme would make a stronger candle but the trade off is the price you pay for it.
  11. I use this wax as well and I heat to 170 (I am very careful not to go 1 degree over) and pour at 140 or 135 on racks with a box covering them and hardly every get a sink hole- I do sometimes get a rough looking top with certain FO's from JS but a heat gun smooths them out:cheesy2: I do also warm my jars before pouring- I set them on a cookie sheet on top of gridle upside down while I melt and mix- then wick and pour
  12. I ordered Oregon Trails Star Ruby Grapefruit (I have been searching for a good true strong grapefruit- CS grapefruit mangosteen is too sweet)- other than the nutmeg and allspice it fits the description pretty good- I use Just Scent Cinnamon Nutmeg & Clove (very strong and spicy) and adding just a touch of this sounds like it could be a match providing the grapefruit is any good...
  13. Christmas makes your eyes bulge?? But...."It's the most wonderful time of the year....." LOL
  14. I do believe the key word here is "rinse" yes- a bomb like substance would probably occur if we just sprayed it in and filled with wax but the words are..... s-p-r-a-y.....w-i-p-e...... r-i-n-s-e.....and r-e-p-e-a-t Dish soap is hardly harmful and ensures cleaning off the film of oven cleaner I havent had an explosion yet or any adverse reactions in my wax
  15. Isn't that funny- see for me I think the 135 threw better than the 464 I made citronella candles with the 135 in square mason jars with lx wicks for my sister outdoor wedding- she had a huge circus tent with all side flaps open and the candles were so overwhelmingly strong we had to blow some out- in a outdoor environment I tried the citronella in the 464 with lx, cd, htp and eco wick and cant get half the throw indoors! but then again there was about 30 candles burning at the wedding and only 3 here in the house- maybe that is the difference.... same thing with a few travel 4 ounce tins I made- the 135 were stonger to me than the 464 ones- but the 135 had cured for over a month as opposed to the 464 at 1 week I do have alot of fragrances that do throw well in the 464 and I have learned how to pour them perfect but in general I did like the look and the throw of 135 better This has actually got me in the mood to test it again side by side with the 464 in one of my stongest throwers to see if it really is true or psychological or if the cure time or amount of candles burning had everything to do with it!! LOL just goes to show that not all wax performs the same for each person
  16. I use 464 and have probably tested at least 30 of their 1 ounce bottle scents in melts (pb/135) before even trying them in a candle and out of all of those I only use the following in an actual candle: pink sugar lilac wild currant sandalwood cranberry orange They are excellent strong throwers for me and I just recently tested the butt naked and funky monkey in melts and may try them in a candle as well- they are very hit or miss- just like anywhere else... Candle Science is the only supplier for me that 9 out 10 work great and I am now thinking of trying AH- they sound like they have some good ones!
  17. ahhhh- that explains it then- I thought it was a 25W in the plug in- and my larger ones I use a 40W with no problem... that is where they claim no other tarts/melts will work because they won't at that wattage! The Levine mosaic warmers I just got in are a regular type light bulb and I always use 40W in them no problem and my candlewarmers brand I dont care for the halogen bulb- it doesnt seem to get hot enough for me- I like the scent to throw Thanks for that- I really thought it was a 25W bulb in this scentsy plug in and I just couldnt figure out why my melts wouldnt melt- I use 25% pb in the melts- anything less gives me major frost issues and they look ugly:tongue2:
  18. I have a plug in nite lite scentsy warmer and my melts do the same thing- they will not melt all the way (after 10 hours they will sometimes)- the bulb is 25W I had a catalog for scentsy awhile back and I think it appeared most of their warmers are light bulb type? and not sure what wattage comes with them My candlewarmers and levine warmers with light bulbs melt my melts no problem but I use a 40W bulb and I use a blend of PB and 135- I am wondering if they sell all theirs with low wattage bulbs just for that reason- I have heard they claim "only their" melts will work with their warmers and their melts are weird- paraffin but sort of a gooey texture kinda like laffy taffy (maybe not as soft but softer than my soy blend)
  19. I used to sell partylite 16 years ago and still have a container of their votives- the type of paraffin they used was never disclosed to us but I agree- they burned so nice and turned to liquid in no time, at that time they claimed the liquifying burn was resulting in a cleaner burn but my walls showed otherwise- they were black from the soot -probably the type of wick they used-not sure After I stopped selling I did still buy from a lady in the area but its been at least 5 years since then so I dont know if they use the same formula today but if you would like me to send you a couple to ananlyze I could- I know nothing about paraffin wax as I only make soy- never even seen what a slab of paraffin looks like!
  20. I have read so many varying threads and everyone I could find thru search on what temperature to add Fo to the wax: some say higher around 180 will give you better HT and others say lower around 160 will... I use 464 with nothing else added except FO and have been heating to 175 and adding FO at 160 then pouring at 140- I'm not totally sure why I started questioning myself on this but am curious as to what temp others are adding FO Everything is working out for me as far as looks and burn but I am now wondering if adding FO higher will give me a "stronger" HT- I use 8% FO and have tested two of the same fragrances adding higher and lower but am having a hard time telling if there is a difference... If you could just respond that you add higher (above 160) or lower (under 160) as I am just curious to see the how divided this is and if it really does have a effect or just a matter of preference Thanks:cheesy2:
  21. Rose hip seed oil is a very good choice for eczema- my daughter has it and it works for her but another real good choice that is thicker and will give more relief to the itching is Tamanu oil. It can be used neat on the skin and does not feel greasy. I use Rose hip seed oil on my face straight as a day moisturizer and at night I use Tamanu around the eyes and mouth- I have very sensitive skin and always feel itchy from makeup and facial cleansers and the Tamanu gives me total relief AND it has stopped the hard lines under my eyes- the ones that make you look like you have not slept in a year! Very great stuff and I would be surprised if it didnt clear you up in a matter of a days. A great place to buy this is Mountain Rose Herbs or Snowdrift Farm- their products are pure and reasonable.
  22. I went on wsp and checked out the page on lip safe EO's and wow- I cant believe how many they have listed This is just my opinion, nothing else as I do not know everything there is to know about EO safety- I do not want to come off as a know it all telling anybody what to do...I have been studying them for awhile and the one thing I learned is to be very very cautious when using them. But you also need to know that I am a total worry wort and probably am way more conscious about stuff than most people. I would be very uncomfortable using EO in lip balm 1% or even a half- I need to rephrase my previous post from "NOT safe" to "Potentially harmful to some"-(I don't think their safe on the lips but that is based off my opinion in my experience with EO) but then again walking out your door to your car could potentially be unsafe also! All EO's warn against using near the eyes and on mucous membranes, not to take internally or use undiluted on the skin and extreme caution should be used with children and the elderly On the wsp site it states the EO for lip balm it can be used at 1% some oils more- that probably will NOT harm anyone but here are the reasons I personally myself would not do it and would not buy it from anyone selling it- they have Anise listed as one oil for the lips- anise can be useful in treating in Bronchitis, colds, coughs, flatulence, flu, muscle aches and rheumatism BUT the cautions listed are: Caution for those with hypersensitive skin or with skin problems. Avoid in endometriosis and oestrogen-dependent cancers. Is narcotic and slows circulation in large doses- What determines large doses? What is a large dose for one is not necessarily large for another- do you know if the person buying it has oestogen dependent cancer and will that 1% do anything? People have different sensitivities and unless you list all this on your product the consumer has no idea what they are putting on their lips. One person has mentioned before that is the consumers responsibility to be informed on what can harm them if they have a medical condition but my arguement on this is- how can they know if its not spelled out for them what is in the product and what the affects could be? Grapefruit is listed as a oil for the lips on wsp and grapefruit is very phototoxic- again 1% may not do anything but for someone with very sensitive skin or gets sun poison looking at the sun- that 1% in their lip balm "could" cause them harm- it states right on grapefruit not to use to an area that will be exposed to the sun f or 24 hours I could list so many more but then it would be a book! LOL On one of the sites I visit regulary does have a section for lip balm recipes- most all of them use Organic Carrier oils such as Avacodo, Emu, Hemp Seed, Sweet almond- only a few list Peppermint EO in their ingredients- all others use flavor oil peppermint oil again can be sensitising and should be avoided in certain medical conditions but then again we are talking 1%- probably not enough to be concerned about but are you willing to take the risk? You just have to use your own judgement and do your homework on whatever EO's you decide to use. There is alot of misled information out there on the web regarding EO and you will find that one site totally contridicts another- just like B & B product and candle making you have to really do your research and know when your on a "quack" site. I do think the consumer should know whats in the product when dealing with EO and the possible effects of it and then you can let them decide I bought a lip balm before that stated on the ingredients "a blend of essential oils" it didnt cause me serious harm but it did dry the crap out of my lips and they peeled for weeks and I have no idea what the blend was With that all said, I do apologize if I came off to strong on my opinions with EO- I should not have said its "not safe" but rather "I" do not think it is safe. I have poisoned myself with EO and I am just sooo cautious with them now (and probably very over reactive)and panic when I see people going in blindly in regards to them. Eo's should be treated like medicine, it is totally different than FO in a candle or Flavor oil in lip gloss- There are so many ways to enjoy EO- they do wonders for wrinkles- you just need to research and listen to your gut- when in doubt....throw it out:cheesy2:
  23. and by the way proudmarinemom... do you sell?? I would love to have some of that in B & B products- I dont make anything but candles and EO blends for horses
  24. Oakmoss in an aftershave would rock!! That sounds amazing- alot of happy men there will be out there! LOL
