I'm a first grade teacher in a semi-small town in West Texas, a few hours south of Lubbock.

I've been... "dabbling" in tart (shhh..you didn't see me call them that) making for about a year now. I love making those because they are the only thing allowed in my classroom. Candles are considered unsafe because a lot of teachers had a tendency to leave them burning >_>

So I LOVE these things. I can leave them on, though I usually don't, and it just... covers the stink of sweaty children after PE/

  1. (hope this doesn't double post! My browser is acting up!) Thank you, I guess I was under the impression (or false hope lol) that it was a true one pour leave it alone after kind of wax. I know it is a hundred times better than the last wax I used, wish I could remember what it was, but the shrinkage was horrible! I will definitely try tapping the jar next batch to see if that helps the air bubbles because that was the only fault with the two jars. With the one that is shrinking, it isn't a visible slope, but I can feel the wax sloping towards the wick when I put my hand on it.
  2. I bought this wax because I keep having issues with sinking and holes in my candle, with this being a supposed 'single pour' I thought I'd give it a shot. I made three candles with it last night and two had air bubbles (I guess) that caused holes and the third is sinking the more it cools. Did I do something wrong? They looked perfect last night and this morning they're consistently looking worse.. =( I poured about 175F which seems to be the optimal temp from what I found. They are cooling slowly... so I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.
  3. Does anyone know what the official name for it is or where I can find them? I'm making my friend a pillar for her wedding and I want their initials pinned into the candle, but google is failing me. This is the best I could come up with for an example, except I want letters... http://www.touchofclass.com/butterfly-candle-jewelry-set-multi-pastel-set-of-four/p/V381-001/
  4. I pour at 155-ish. Sometimes it may be a little warmer, but never over 165.
  5. Yeah, that's how most of mine are. Some are near perfect and not rippled, but I have some that have those square outlines.
  6. Well I went and smelled the DCM today.. I smelled pure dark chocolate with not even a hint of mint (haha it rhymes..) through it's CT. I didn't get it because they were sold out and only had a sample one they had on the counter but I got a good idea of what to do from that one. Unfortunately, they were completely sold out and had no samples of the Marshmallow Fireside so I'm unsure if I'll be able to dupe it anytime soon. I will definitely let you know if I can do it CandleCrazyGal!
  7. LS is a favorite of mine as well. I'm in West Texas so I like buying from them because the shipping isn't too costly and they get it here quickly. Like mentioned above, their FOs are hit and miss. Some are great, some are not so great, but that seems to be an overall thing with all companies.
  8. According to Vickie at RE... that's how creme brulee is supposed to smell? Maybe I've never smelled true creme brulee... but all the ones I've ever smelled had a slight coffee scent to them. NaturallyTru - Thanks for the suggestion! I really like RE's CT but that HT is just way too different. I can't see any potential customers liking it when I don't like it... at least not when it's melting!
  9. I am so glad it isn't just me! I think I may ask RE on Facebook about it... that is definitely not the scent that it should be giving off!
  10. I use KY parasoy and I don't notice any ripples... I'm going to go inspect one that I poured last weekend now! You have me wondering... I've never noticed ripples before! Well... I don't see anything.. well I can see a tiny bit in the purple but the pink has nothing that I can see or feel.
  11. I was definitely thinking about trying LS's Peppermint bark because the description sounded great regardless of what I wanted. The other one is the hassle, but I think she likes the chocolate mint one better anyway. I find nothing that has the 'fireplace' scent already in it so that would have to be blended in.
  12. I need to ask something about this... the CT smells amazing, just like pumpkin... However.. the HT gives off a more.. maple syrup smell! Has anyone else melted this FO and had a scent other than pumpkin? The CT and HT scents are polar opposites. I ask a lot of questions... lol
  13. That does help quite a bit, thank you! I read the reviews and one person said the same thing as you, but others said they smelled total mint.. I guess there may be differences between their candles. I'm going to go to BBW this weekend to get some stuff for Christmas so I'll get my own to smell lol
  14. I think I may try to blend my own, so I do have a question for you! Is it more of a... spearmint scent or closer to a peppermint scent? RE has a dark chocolate FO and if I can pick the right mint FO that would be perfect..
  15. I think I'll try that Faerywren, thanks! I'll probably also get RE's Toasted Marshmallow as well. I may make some samples to send her so she can test and tell me which one is close enough. Though I may order a BBW candle myself so I can see what they smell like! That would help me a lot lol
