I wouldn't suggest getting smaller jars just for the sake of testing. If you are ever looking at selling. Get the jars you plan on selling, so that you don't have to do another entire round of testing on the jars with entirely NEW wicks that will fit THOSE jars. You are wasting time, money, and energy if you do it that way. I started with ECO's too, They may burn well, but they in my experience, are crap for hot throw in 464, I switched to CDN's and have had much greater success with my hot throw in 464. Also, a note on hot throw. A week MINIMUM....seriously. I KNOW it is difficult to wait that long. But it really is important. While some oils may not throw...you don't want to discount the ones that may leave you pleasantly suprised when they do...and you find that they are keepers. Now, I pour...put in a box, HIDE THEM, and forget about them...dig them back out, and burn, with MUCH better results, more consistently. Also, FWIW, when it comes to 464, I pour at a much much lower temp with better aesthetics and better HT, then when I was pouring hotter. An Eco 14 barley burned my 3", I can't imagine what it is doing with an almost 4" container.

I'm probably beating a dead horse here. but just wanted to add my 2 cents. A) I use 464 exclusively, and ECO's aren't my wick of choice. Not to mention an Eco14??? B)Add your oil at a higher temp. C)CURE TIME IS ESSENTIAL FOR THIS WAX

Its funny this has come to my attention.... I also posted about this (but use 464) I did a remelt/repour, the former had no scent throw and I despised the wick. So I repoured sans wick. Let it cure until tonight for 8 days. I was just burning it with a 795 wick....and wouldn't you know it, FINALLY, good melt and descent hot throw. Best of luck. ETA: My containers are 3" in diameter.

About smelling them before you buy, while that is cool. I must say that OOB can and often is very different as compared to when it is actually in wax. It can be better or worse once the wax set up. And better or worse once the candle actually has its' appropriate cure time. It can also be better or worse depending on your method of making the candle (temperatures), and the type of wicks you use. I say all that to say, there are a great number of variables that can change the performance of ANY FO. OOB isn't always the most reliable way to test FO. Good Luck.

I should now add that...this popcorn smell was directly in hot wax. Now that it is set up (pour date of 9-24), it is minimal CT. I'm going to give this a week to cure, as I have found with my 464 that cure time is essential...and I'm gonna light this baby up. I would be interested to see if it changes from popcorn/styrofoam to caramelized pralines once it is cured and burning. I will definitly let you know. If it shouldn't work out I think I have another 1oz sampler from CS, if anyone would like it. Cause I know I won't pour it again. I've never gag'd pouring..... until now. :lipsrseal

I had high hopes for this oil..... It smells horrid to me in 464...any good caramelized pralines out there? I don't recall seeing one at peaks, but may go take a 2nd look. ~Thanks!!

Well, I knew it was down there...but...we don't go down there, well.. I don't go down there. I just wonder what is TOO cool for candles, being as I'm working with soy....IDK... at least it isn't the whole basement, so it shouldn't get too cool down there. I wonder if I should take some temperature readings down there first or something? I dont want to ruin cases of candles kwim? I just imagine my prestos all lined up on that counter, radio going, coffee pot in the corner. There is even an antique pepsi machine down there that still works. Hehehe. my own little haven. LOL

This may be silly. Might even be redundent. I apologize if this is. I am currently making all of our candles in the kitchen. Which is, as most of you know; is less than ideal. It dawned on me that I have a basement We've lived/owned this house for 5 years...and we never use the basement. All though it isn't finished. The original owner of the house used to be some type of wood worker/craftsman. So, if you can imagine... one large basement and then there is a front room, split into two smaller rooms. The smaller of the two really isnt usable, as it would need to be cleaned out and I haven't the slightest idea as to what is in there. But the other longer room, has a long counter (higher then waist height but lower then chest height); that he installed right into the wall. Also along the wall, are outlets that were installed, probably every 16 inches or so. This really sounds like it could be IDEAL for candle making? No? Not to mention the built in shelves that are down there already? Thoughts? Maybe a basement is too damp? ~Holly

time estimate? 8oz is the amt. of wax, not capacity of the container. What would you find favorable... Opinions welcome. Thank You.
