  1. Well really the bottom line is regardless of what wax you're always going to have a wicking issue unless you go wickless. All FOs do not require one set wick. Some will require wicking down, some wicking up. You should always know what your candle does, how it reacts under all kinds of situations. For those starting out who want to learn the craft, it takes a lot of testing to produce a quality candle and if you really want to learn the ins and outs then you don't toss something away/aside because it didn't work one or 10 times saying you made a change each time. It might work out the 11th time. The ultimate goal is to make a good candle that burns properly from start to finish whether it is for personal pleasure or an eventual business on down the line. To get to that point usually requires some frustration and dedication to get to the ahhh/finally. As for your issues with scent, that's something between you and your wife to solve. Fragrance will always be tied into wicking and how well it works in your medium of choice. What you want out of your candle is ultimately your decision and if you choose to market that decision then is when it becomes what the public wants too. As for molds, what are you wanting? Peak's sells more choices than Candlewic I believe, but they don't offer silicone molds last I looked. They had some cool tin molds. Candles and Supplies used to have quite a selection too. You can Google for other companies. Most of what I've accumulated came from a company no longer in business. You might also take a look on ebay and see what pops up along with what companies are selling there as well. I think Candle Chem was there and they had their own store etc. Let It Shine I believe is another place for molds etc. Most companies that carry fragrances have lists of what's soy friendly too. At least I believe they've expanded beyond what's gel compatible to include soy as well.
  2. Hearts & Daggars is the one I have from JS. Thanks, Barb, will remember those the next time around.
  3. What I have is from JS and I never touched it till seeing this post, which is a reminder that I have some of these dupes ... somewhere. I remember liking what I smelled OOB and then putting them somewhere I wouldn't forget. Apparently that worked well
  4. Yeah, cuz I so missed that they had this.
  5. When you get around to ultramarines, use water with them to help avoid the spotties that they can leave behind. I love the ones that I do have, but oh what a difference it was mixing the colors with water as opposed to oils.
  6. This has been something I've had to learn as I went. Typically I start with about 1/2 tsp. on some of the colorants (most of them except black is less), but if you ever try or use say select shades (which aren't oxides), that's whole different measuring system. I use around a 1/4 of a tsp when it's ultramarines, since I find those colorants to be a bit more vibrant.
  7. A special kind of wax mold that I am beginning to think isn't going to exist lol. Help to get stock caught back up ... (but I don't see that happening even with help lol) More organized space ... (and more space for that matter too!!!) And a bath bomb maker thing a ma jiggy ... (but that requires more space )
  8. Well they say that's why you should document everything ... not saying I do, because I don't.
  9. They're holding up fine! I went away from tilting votives and concentrating on them too much, but you have me intrigued.
  10. I'll be the one to tell you to add brown to your red to get a blood red lol. Liquids for this. A drop at a time.
  11. We're starting to see this among people too ... that they have an allergy to coconuts.
  12. And find out what restrictions you have for mail to Hawaii. There's a friend of mine who lives there who can't do certain stuff because it's not allowed to be shipped there without jumping through hoops. That may only apply to B&B stuff, but check on the candle end too.
  13. Nah! I needed something that would allow me to make almost 8 3x3s look close to the same. If I ever have it redone, I think I want to be able to have the one angle I don't have, which is for it to lay flat, but this works for what I need it to work for and it's fairly easy to clean up. I just wish I could do up to 12 on the same gizmo, but I don't have the space for something like that as it is lol.
  14. Got any eucalyptus, peppermint and ginger? You could use all of those at 1:1:1. It's a recipe for over-exercised muscles. Thyme and lavender would be good oils too. Here's another combo Rosemary, lavender and cypress. Looks like the breakdown would be 1:2:3. I loved when I would get my feet worked on how the peppermint left tingles but there was no painful feeling.
  15. Not sure what you are meaning? If you want to pour layers in a votive, you wait for skin to form before you pour another color on top of it. How thick that skin is will determine the definition of the line that it forms between the colors. If you want tilted layers, same applies for the layers, but you can get some styrofoam and put it on a counter, shove your votive molds into it (before pouring or some other vice that allows you to tilt the molds) and make sure they will stay upright, pour so much, let skin over and pour again etc. If you are talking about her rustics, part of that comes from the formula of stearic in wax. The other part (the white in there) comes out from sloshing wax around or tipping and rolling the wax around in the mold. Hope some of that is what you were looking for.
  16. It wouldn't bother me either but that doesn't mean I'd be inclined to tell you the truth all the time either.
