  1. I LOVE whipped soaps. Love making them, love using them. and those PEEPS are awesomely cute!!!
  2. No, but even making them in your home (whether you sell or not) may not be covered. Most are not, and you have to have a separate policy. At least I did. They wouldn't have covered me if an accident happened due to me making candles in my home without the separate policy. She should call her agent to make very sure what's covered and what's not.
  3. I live in rural farm area and that's where most of my shows and markets are, and honestly it's almost as if they expect it. My soaps are all veggie oils, and I always get asked "Why don't you use lard?" So it really depends on where you are, what your market will bear, and how you approach it. I know in a certain town up north, I probably couldn't GIVE a lard/tallow soap away because 90% of the population there are vegans and Wiccans. So... Like everything else, it's one of those "it depends" type of things and how your market what you sell.
  4. Most homeowners policy's don't cover you, so I would make sure before assuming they do even if it doesn't explicitly say they don't. Most will make you buy a separate policy. For me, my State Farm policy was more per year than the Guild insurance including the membership, so I switched.
  5. I started making candles in 1997, started making soap in 2003. My first love will always be candles, but I must admit, soap making is a bigger addiction, I can be more creative with soaps, and I have a TONNE more soaps than I do candles.
  6. I do have the small 2lb mold, but don't like it because it's not tall enough for me. I don't have the dividers, but am planning on getting the dividers for the ED molds. (I have 6 of those molds now, LOVE them) Once I get dividers, I'll try it out.
  7. I'll post pics once I get it out of the mold!! No need to be nervous, no one is judging, and if they are, too bad. LOL
  8. Only if you want it clear. From my research that's really the only benefit I can find in using it, and my recipe is partly clear without it and not drying. I think I cooked the oils too long is why it turned out white with a translucent center.
  9. The WSP insurance doesn't cover candles? That's irritating because the picture clearly shows a candle burning so you would assume that it would. ETA: I haven't looked into it so I didn't know. I already have insurance through the guild.
  10. Wow - I sooo wish I could do that. It turned out GREAT!
  11. *sigh* double fail. I went to check on it, and it's 'squishy'. So either it didn't melt down good enough due to the power outage, or 1oz liquid in 32oz shreds/chunks was too much. (the soap shreds were old - some as old as 7 years, some as new as 1 year - nothing younger than a year though) So... IDK... I will leave it in the mold until Friday. LOL If I can't get it out due to stickiness it's going in the trash. If it's too hard to cut, it's going in the trash. If I can get it out and cut it, I'll let it cure and keep it. LOL
  12. Could be. But I do have very oily skin, so maybe since it's so close in make-up, that's why I break out? Getting TOO much natural oils? IDK... I just know if I use a lard soap for more than 3-4 days in a row, I will start to get acne all over my face, neck and chest. Nowhere else - just there. I've never been one to use a separate soap for face and another for body. I don't have time for all that. LOL I know a lot of people use lard in their soaps, and I do love the feel of lard in soaps, and am not opposed to using it for any 'ethical' reasons such as vegan or the like, I just can't use it.
  13. Welcome to the board. Feel free to jump in at anytime. It's nice to have you here.
  14. I have so many of them Trap, I could win an award! Seriously!! LOL
  15. Love it, and congratulations. I love the little soap box (that reads SOAP) I have one exactly like it and use it in our main bathroom...
  16. Personally, I wouldn't use it to full on melt your wax. It would take an incredibly long time, and could possibly cause problems. If you are not ready for a Presto, I would stick with the double boiler method for now. Presto's are relatively inexpensive at Wal-Mart. You can get one for around $30.
  17. I will post pics tomorrow or Tuesday when I unmold and cut it.
  18. I love them. Very spring looking and the labels are so cute.
  19. I had to throw one of the batches out - there was no saving it, and the second one the bigger pieces didn't melt down, but instead of the weird brown re-batches usually get, it turned a dark grey so I'm going to call it "alternate galaxy" or something. I think I'll like the way it looks so won't have to camouflage it with a cover up. LOL I had about 15lbs of shreds and odd shaped end pieces. It was crazy. I rarely bevel my soaps now so I won't collect them quite so quickly anymore.
  20. I've tried about 10-15 different various bases throughout they years from different places, and some are more drying than others, but all were drying. That is what set me on the path to try my own, but I knew I didn't want to add any type of alcohol, solvent, or sugar solution, or anything like that. Finally hit upon someone making it this way, so gave it a try and am so glad I did. It's so much better to me than any I have tried. However, it's not clear or translucent, so coloring it is tricky...
  21. *Sigh* so I decided instead of throwing away all my old soap shreds or making confetti soap that I would do 2 - 2lb rebatches with them and just make "fuglies" that I could make soap savers for and sell at a discount at my next show. Half way into making them, the power went out for about 2.5 hours. I have no idea if they will finish cooking/melting down now that the power is back on or not. So irritating. I lost all that time doing stuff that needed to be done before I go back to work tomorrow, and was at a stand-still. Grr grr grr... Oh well. I'll let you guys now how it turns out now that the power is back on and I can try again...
  22. I hope it came out right for you too!! I've tried that swirl like a million times (LOL not literally, but a ton of times) and I have NEVER been able to do it, except once, but I was doing the peacock swirl, so messed it up. Haven't been able to do one since. Can't wait to see the pics of that one!
