  1. I've never done water baths with my pillars, only my hurricanes. But if it works, then great. And yeah, the faster a pillar cools after the initial pour the larger the sink hole will be. At least that's been my experience.
  2. I do. It will help with wax adhesion if the original pour is still warm, or at least not cool enough to have pulled away from the sides of the mold. If you wait too long the candle will cool too much and pull away from the sides of the mold, and then you can have wax slop down in that gap, making the candle appearance wonky, and also it's more difficult to un-mold if that happens.
  3. Until there is a thickish skin along the top. Poke your relief holes, and then pour at 10 degrees hotter than the original pour and that will bind them together along with the relief holes being filled with the hotter wax will help the layers adhere.
  4. YAY - I love it when supplies are on their way and then arriving. LOVE IT! The colors sound fab, but I know they are being from Nuture...
  5. Beautiful and I bet it smells fantabulous!!!
  6. Yeah, I have my regular blend for tarts that I use, but this will be "special" and most likely just for me. I actually HATE, double HATE with a passion HATE the OK6228 - but at the same time, I just cannot throw out that much wax. I just can't do it. LOL So I have to find a use for it, and pillars are out of the question.
  7. It's J50, so pretty soft. No way would it come out of a clamshell on it's own.
  8. I know, this topic has been beat to death, but in cleaning out my soap/candle room, I ran across 2.5 slabs of OK6228 (anybody remember that awful wax?? LOL) So instead of just tossing it, or making fire-starters out of it, I'm going to try and blend it with my container wax and see how good of tarts they will make. Anybody suggest a ratio? (OK6228 is a pillar blend wax; very hard and opaque) I was thinking of trying either a 50/50 ratio, or 75/25 pillar/container. What do y'all think?
  9. If it worked and it didn't crack, then no reason to feel bad or think you did anything "wrong"!!
  10. What did you do?? Freezer? Cold water bath? what???
  11. Yes, you can cool a candle fast(er) by keeping the ambient temp of the room cooler, putting it in an "ice chest" (Styrofoam) or putting it in the refrigerator. I do this a lot with my pillars, and especially with my hurricane shells, otherwise I would have to wait way too long to take it out of the mold, It also helps the candles release from the molds. Containers, I really don't do this with, because IMO it's not needed and it actually benefits the candle (my blend anyway) to cool them slowly.
  12. The feather swirl is fun, and can yield some beautiful results. The above pics are not mine. They belong to the same lady that did the video and I'm sorry, but I forget her name. She is in a couple soaping groups on FB that I am in, and she can consistently get the same effect on her swirls. It's amazing to me. Every time I try I feel like I'm doing the exact same thing, but it always comes out different!! HA
  13. Oh yeah, just once down the middle, than over to the side and up. Let me see. I *think* I can find the cut pic for you. Yes, here it is. This is the exact soap from that video.
  14. Yep, putting those wicks closer together will hep with a more uniform burn which will in turn help with the hangup on the side of the jar.
  15. I don't know how "good" the video is, but I have one on my channel of my feather swirl. This is another video I liked for the feather. There's no talking or music, but you get the idea of what she's doing.
  16. I never wait for a full cure to try a sliver. Especially on a new recipe. I can usually (not always, but usually) tell if it's a keeper or a dud of a recipe.
  17. Ah, if it was the 2lb one you wanted instead, I have one. Never use it. (well, I used it once but not since) but it is a great little mold. I think you will be thrilled with it, and I too want to get some dividers, to try and do some type of swirling. I want them to do the secret feather. LOVE that swirl. But can't duplicate the first time I did it unfortunately.
  18. Love them! I think the specks give it character! And if it smells like a paperback book, I'll take 2 please.
  19. Or less fragrance, or a combination of the two. (there could be other factors as well, but those are the main ones)
  20. LOL bored? Come to my house - I'm cleaning for repairs. That'll make ya unbored real quick! I hate when I get mushrooms like that when testing and then half of it falls down into the melted wax. GRRR....
  21. You might be surprised with the colors - after being exposed to the air, they might come back to what they are supposed too. A lot of times my pink with turn orange, but after saponification and a cut, they go back to pink. It's weird, but it happens a lot with me. And maybe the same thing will happen with the scent? I hope. I think they look really good,
  22. Along with everything that TallTayl has said, are you talking commercial dry bubble bath? Because if you are, most likely it's going to have SLSa in it as well as other ingredients. It will also most likely be pre-scented. IMO if you are trying to formulate a recipe, using a commercial brand that is already formulated and ready for resale is not the way to go. There isn't a lot of leeway in that as far as adding your own ingredients and it could break down the preservative if there is one in there.
