  1. i actually just ordered Jamaica me crazy (CS) which i thought sounded good, i also ordered Raspberry sangria (Cs). Also from CS i ordered Ocean Breeze sample to try out. I also really like the Grapefruit & Mangosteen and also i have Citron and Manderin that i am going to mix with citronella to make some candles for gifts. I wanted to try CS Sex on the Beach but because of the flash point it would have had to of been sent UPS ground and that was an extra $4 shipping even if it was just the sample. so maybe when i have a larger order ill get a sample of that As for the Blueberry Cobbler (CS) i didnt have trouble wicking it, I use 444 Golden and I use an Eco 10 and it worked well. I may try it with the eco 14 since i have a ton of those since i ordered them by accident to see if upping the wick changes anything.
  2. Thanks Moonstar- I got a sample of the peach from CS and mixed it with vanilla thinking that it could be a good mix and that was just a fail lol does not work at all. And oob i am not really a fan of the straight peach from CS so maybe i'll order a sample of something else like peach nectar.
  3. I know its late for starting summer scents for some of you but I don't sell as many as a lot of you guys do so I tend to make mine 2 weeks prior to putting them in my booth. So far for summer I was going to do CS blueberry cobbler CS beach linen And CS English garden Do you think there would be some better scents for summer? I have tons of bakery and vanilla based scents in my box of scents so I don't want to make too many bakery candles. Are there any summer scents that sell for you guys? Thanks ?
  4. I just saw online (terrain.com) they had lots of citronella candles in terracotta or clay pots, terracotta could be easier to find than the glazed clay pots.
  5. I know this is an old thread that I keep bringing to life but this is the wax I use so I wanted to let people know what worked for me. I realized I actually get better results using Eco10 wicks in my 8oz square mason jars, so when I get those in my most recent supply order Im switching. Also a few batches I did recently I was struggling with sink holes and rough tops, I realized that I get the best results when I can pour the candle in one pour. Going back and trying to top the candle off was causing my candles to look bad, even if i didn't think I was waiting too on it was still long enough for the wax to change temp. I am so happy I figured that out so that I didn't end up with lots of candles that I needed to fix. :-) Another thing with this last batch I did was wait till it was 150 degs f and the room temp wasn't as drastic because its getting warmer outside.
  6. Great suggestions from moonstar. I just wanted to say even if none of the candles broke I would have been pissed with the box showing up like that. I realize that things happen and boxes can fall etc... But really? Even if they were packed really really well I would have expected more to have been damaged. Hope things work out
  7. Great suggestions kandlekrazy! Thanks so much, ill try to add to my booth. We'll see how I do this weekend
  8. Great suggestions candybee! I'll work on that. It would be a beach theme and my candles are soy so I will work on getting those things across so that people don't need to pick up a candle to figure it out.
  9. Awesome! That's exactly what I wanted to know, I just wanted an idea on how long I should keep a scent up there as I plan on doing the base scents and some seasonal ones. This weekend will be my second weekend so I know it needs more time. I am working on ordering business cards and making brochures about my candles. And I will try to get more pops of color in there somehow.
  10. I just started my booth a week ago and sold one candle I don't think that's too bad, the shop is only open 3 days a week. But how do you know when a scent isn't selling? And that it's time to switch it up or just change my pricing? I was going to make a sign for each of the scents that I have since some of them only have the scent on the tags. Would that be helpful in drawing people in? This place has pretty good foot traffic, 1000 people can go through in a weekend. Thanks
  11. Awesome!!! Thank you all, I had now idea where to start this will help
  12. I just set my booth up last night!!!! ? its definitely not what I had in mind but I rushed to get my.candles in because they had an event with 200 people there. I was going to put some starfish on the top and get wooden letters to make a sign for my name. And also will have some stuff from one of my friends that makes terrariums. I was also going to do blocks of wood with chalk board paint write names of the scents so people don't need to pick them up each time. Are 5 scents enough? The bottom little jars are lavender, cotton tree and very vanilla and the hobnail are black raspberry vanilla ( red) and sandle wood vanilla (orange). Other ideas? I clearly have much more to do to get it how I want.
  13. Hi there! Has anyone made a blueberry lemonade scent or have ideas on scents that could work together to make this? A friend of mine suggested it as I gave her a blueberry cobbler candle and thought this would make a good scent. I also just saw that a large candle co was selling this scent but I haven't been able to find it yet on a suppliers website. Thanks so much ☺
  14. I am having my candles sold in an "antiques" mall. I pay for a booth ($60 per month) and give the shop a 10% commission on my sales at the end of the month. The biggest thing with that is makeing sure that the shop has enoughfoot traffic. Tonight they are having an event with 200 people signed up to be there! ? they take care of processing all of the sales so I don't need to be there to man it like I would at a farmers market or craft fair. Craft Fairs and farmers markets might be a good way to get your feet wet.my personal opinion is that word of mouth would probably be more beneficial than fliers. Also social media can be really good, that maybe one use for your direct mail. Informing people of your company and its social media accounts, getting them to like/follow for some kind of promotion. I feel like for me I need my candles to get in peoples hands so that they can pick them up and smell them, I know that feeling and smelling them is a huge factor for me to buy candles I rarely make blind purchases for candles.
  15. I agree with Vicky, shabby/rustic I don't think that it will match the feel. But maybe if it is more retro (1950's vintage feel) it could match with a neon sign. What kind of things would you be selling? Would it just be an "open" neon/led sign? There are still glass artists out there that can make you a custom neon sign that could be cool for a big outside sign($$), idk about how custom a led sign can get though ive never looked into it.
  16. I just bought two ceramic buckets that are for crab legs. I am going to make them as gifts so they cost more than I normally would spend. What about little galvanized buckets?
  17. Thank you that's how I do it also. I don't like the flame being above the lip either.
  18. Thank you pcbrook. I was wondering how you could safely fit more wax into those jars. I know that this company fills into the neck but could the amount of fragrance oil they use effect the weight significantly? I went and looked and noticed that they are marketing their candles as being 9oz! Is there a 9oz square mason jar that I don't know about? Also when you tare the scale do you tare out the wick? I didn't think it would be right to include the wick weight in with the wax so I usually exclude it even thought it doesn't weight too much.
  19. I was just wondering how high you fill your containers. I use the 8oz square mason jars and only fill 7oz in those because I like to look of the neck being empty and also because I had read somewhere that filling all the way up could affect how well your wick does ( have no idea where I read that/if I made it up), I could probably fit another 1/2 oz and be comfortable. But now I have been seeing the same jars that I use being sold as having 8oz of wax and it does look like the fill into the neck. I have no idea how well these candles burn or if they tunnel/ wick drowns etc... What is your consensus do you fill the full 8oz? also I kind of have been basing it a little off of how Yankee, village candle etc fill the apothecary jars. They always leave the neck empty.
  20. I use 444 and havent had those issues, i heat it to 180-185 and pour around 165. I make sure that my jars are not touching eachother. Where are you pouring your candles? Is the room just regular room temp or cooler? I noticed I had some issues with in consistent tops when I poured candles this winter and my kitchen was too cold. What size jelly jars at you using? I use Eco 14s in 8oz square mason jars and the work really well for me. Candle science has a good guide for wicks if you haven't already seen it, you just need to know what wax you are using and the diameter vessel. Another thought I am having is that maybe you got a bad batch of wax? I bought some from a different distributer one time and found I had issues, went back to candle science for my next order and my candles were perfect. I also get the discoloration after burning, I think that it has to do with the fragrance oil but I'm not sure maybe someone else knows why that happens, I don't get it with all of my fragrances that's why I think it has to do with that. As for imperfections, i haven't sold any but have given them to plenty of people and they always say great things. I think people are more willing to over look the imperfections that we see like frosting if the candle throws great and burns clean.
  21. Such a great explanation oldglory!! Thanks so much it helps me also
  22. Thanks I just got some enamel paint to paint the outside (paint cures in the oven) with since I got ones on clearance and they were painted orange on the outside which doesn't go with any of the scents I am making.
  23. I love apple harvest!! Also a good one that I use is apple and maple bourbon (CS), has more of a bakery apple scent to me.
  24. The ones I use are these jars, nice and thick base.
  25. I'll have to try those! Thanks so much!
