  1. 415 gets such a bad rap. I feel its only because people dont test it enough and give it fair time to learn it. I will be the first to say that its a PITA wax to work with. We started with it and started reading here then changed, then read some more, then changed again and so on and so on. THANKS, ITS ALL YOUR FAULT!!! I wont lie, there were times when I just wanted to smash it all and sell everything off but I took a few days and then went back to it. I have tried sooooooo many waxes from so many vendors that I am all tested out as far as that goes!!! If I kept all the money I spent in testing other waxes adding this and that and that and this, I could have purchased a pallet of wax. Heck its been a blast but in my OPINION, I couldnt achieve a HT like I could with 415. Yeah it looks terrible after it burns and cures but If you want a straight soy product you get past it. You can make beautiful candles if you just work on one wax alone. It took my wife and I MANY MANY hours of testing and testing and testing 415. I dont put down anyone elses choices on wax because I believe what works for you may not work for me and vice versa. We are sold on it and people we sell to love it and I HAVE NEVER had anyone say they wouldnt buy it again because of the looks.
  2. Mountain Soy Candle, what lid are you talking about that is loose and falls off? The ones from Lonestar. I also ordered some from all white candles but dont remember if they stayed on or not. I totally got away from them. If you are not worried about them coming loose maybe you could clear tape them for your need and then remove the tape. How many do you need? I will check to see if I have any left in the shop and if I do you can have them.. http://allwhitecandles.easystorecreator.com/items/candle-packaging-and-candle-shrink-wrap/480-plastic-lids-for-jar-candles-62107jp-detail.htm Mike
  3. I can tell you from experience that that lid will not stay on the status jar. It will be loose and fall off if it grabs or rubs on anything.
  4. If I was in your position I would personally make a boat load of votives and move the heck out of them if you have mastered them.. Even if not votives you could do melts which you could feel comfortable about making a product that wouldnt have the chance of burning someones house down or injuring someone. You already have the ecosoya PB. We all want the best throw and the best looks etc but it comes down to the safest product in the long run. Safety should be the first thing you think about. When you SELL a product to someone you are liable and theres no excuse for something going wrong. You have to hope your insurance will cover you. For all the money you will spend in testing you could donate it to your cause and start your candle business slow and smart. I can personally tell you that it has cost me THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS to get a product I now KNOW is the best I can produce. We test daily and its time cunsuming especially if you make containers that can burn 50 hours! Thank god my wife and I work full time jobs to support our small business. Stick to what you know for the time being, donate what you can and CONTINUE to get better and better!!
  5. 50% is crazy! You pay up front for all of the material, you carry all the product for free for their shelves and they capitalize off of your work. You did very good by walking. I only have 1 shop left with consignment and that's only because it sells product monthly and I know the owner personally and I trust them. I only give 25% at that store. Their price is much more than we sell normally but what do I care, it makes me more money in the long run. It's in a very high traffic area and the exposure is worth the commission ten fold.
  6. I made 4 on my own. The first one is the most expensive if you dont have the right tools. After that its worth making your own. I have tried plumbers tape and it leaks after time so now they all have JB WELD. Dont skimp on the spigot or it will not flow properly and the lever wont be smooth. Jeanie your a nut and I laughed my A$$ off at your response.!! LOL I could always put flowers in the empty ones for my wife and use it as a centerpiece if I turn the spigot to the rear so no one sees it!! Whats wrong with that?? After all I am broke because of all of this.... Mike
  7. 8oz & 12 oz status jars for us with 415 and cd wicks works perfectly! I used to get the status style jars from dollar tree and purchase flat glass tops also but now I pick them up with tops cheaper. We make a day trip out of it and its worth the ride. I only buy when they are on sale. I also noticed that the glass from dollar tree wasn't always the same. You have to really look at them when you buy them. They sometimes have air holes in the solid part of the base and sometimes the bottoms don't look straight. It's like the glass cooled on an angle. I am crazy about things like this maybe it's a sickness! Mike
  8. I second, third and fourth the Mac apple and Pumpkin souffle!! 2 of our best selling scents from CS! Mac is a great seller all year. Come around September, Pumpkin Souffle starts rolling out. Mike
  9. Shipping charges are hurting all of us right now and its not going to get any better. I just made a road trip down to Candlewic and picked up 40 cases of glass. 150.00 worth of fuel and tolls was alot better than 690.00 from them. Ive tried to find any suppliers within a 4 hour drive to save whatever I can. Its crazy but its the only thing I can do to keep prices were they are in this economy.
  10. I have a epson Artisan 835 and to be blunt it sucks!! It uses ink so fast and I use only their "high output" cartridges. You cannot just use black if the one of the color cartridges are low. No matter how much I cleaned it the heads always need re-cleaning which uses more ink!! It smears on glossy labels and it's about to he smashed to oblivion. Definately not recommended and that's from experience. Mike
  11. This is a perfect example of many arguments. The end user probably doesnt even notice the wax on the glass. I am a firm believer that people buy because of the fragrance. I drive myself crazy trying to always be neat and clean and would never put out a product like this. I tip my hat to her for owning a large operation and I have to congratulate her for being successful. MIke
  12. I would suggest first reading the forums and learning the waxes ans what goes into making candles. Then make YOUR OWN decision. If you choose one type of wax over the other go with it. Buy a kit like others Said but make sure its not from a reputable company that you know will be there when you need to replenish. It's going to be a long road and that's the truth so if you give up too easily you will never truly find out the correct way to work with the wax YOU PICK. I only work with soy but I'm not going to preach that's it's the best out there. For me it's the best and it was because that was MY decision to use and I worked the hell out of it to get where I am today. Mike
  13. Not all FO's will work with soy. I can't stress enough about testing testing testing. You and only you can see whats right for your line. This is a great place to come for info but it's not the cure all for your answers. Use this site as a guideline. I used to use 464 but couldn't get good enough throw so I switched to 415 and never looked back. People say that soy doesn't throw well and I disagree totally. If you put the time and effort and of course cash into the research you can achieve the best for your candle line. Remember one thing everyone has the best burning and smelling candle so don't judge yourself on that. Take the time and work with your resources and you too will one day say yours is the best. Read the veggie wax forum. I am sure you will find HOURS of reading material. Good luck, Mike
  14. If you don't trim your wick I dont care what type of wax it is the glass will look like that. Its not fair to blame any wax for that. Mike
  15. I bought all the contents from a candle company that was no more. Not that I wanted the wax but the guy gave me 4 cases of CBL-141 wax. That's 200 pounds of wax that I have no idea what to use it for. I have only used 415 since day one. If I anyone has any insight on whether it's good or bad I would appreciate an info. It's about a year old according to the lot date and was in a basement shop which was cool and was pretty dark even with the lights on. They stored it in a closet. I am going to google it but hearing from someone here who uses it regularly would be better. Mike
  16. Peaks has a sale for colorants till the end of the month not their samples. Candlewic is having the sale on samples at this time. Mike
  17. I make it a point to tell everyone I sell or give a candle to to make sure the wick is trimmed EVERYTIME! I give them a small speech about why. Repeaters have told me the now do it faithfully. Makes my product that much better in the long run. Mike
