  1. Are they actually wet spots or is it just pull away from the jars (where it may look like a wet spot)? There are waxes that do pull away some and there's nothing that can be done about it (not that I'm aware of anyway). Next time your in the store take a look at some of the jar candles being sold. Almost everyone I see from numerous companies, even Yankee, have it. Most customers don't seem to care about it. They want an awesome smelling candle that burns correctly. As for temperature there's really nothing that can be done about it. When candles are shipped out they are going out to the temps, sitting on a truck or in a sorting facility where the cold or hot temps are going to affect your package. Sure you can heat your package and all it's packing contents before you ship it out but it's not going to contain the warmth for very long. Sorry to say but it's like beating a dead horse.
  2. I know the Candlemakers Store has it. I've only used it in B&B so I can't say how it does in candles or melts. HTH.
  3. Hi, I was wondering if anyone has tried to place an order recently and got some weird message? I tried to place an order Tuesday evening and got the following message after I entered all my info: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Servererror '80040e14' Incorrect syntax near '='. /ssl/SFLIB/incAE.asp, line 311 I didn't get an emailed confirmation so I'm assuming the order didn't go through. I sent an email to the contact email they gave on their site explaining what happened and pasted the message I rec'd. I have not heard back from them. So I was just wondering if anyone else had come across this and if they knew what was going on or if any of the techy members of the board could tell me what the heck that means. Thanks. :smiley2:
  4. I was on Aztek's site and came across this. I thought I'd post it for anyone who's interested in giving how to tutorials for their site and get paid for it. The link below will take you to their site and the page with the info. http://www.candlemaking.com/cms/Submit+Craft+Ideas/87.html
  5. Haven't heard of the "bath salts" but have heard of the "potpourri". I've heard some of the younger people at work mention it and that you can get it at some smoke shops etc. Guess I need to read up on the "bath salts" and see what else is out there that I may have not heard of yet. I'm not interested in it, but, would like to know what's out there and how easily available it is since I have 2 teenagers.
  6. The bar she's referring to is what they call a scent bar. It's a clamshell container of scented wax (what many of us make). Since Yankee trademarked the name "tart" they called it scent bar(s). However they are used in the electric wax warmers/melters so wouldn't that constitute as an electric scent dispenser??
  7. Mac Apple Beach Linen Smoke & Odor Eliminator Mulberry Apple Jack n Peel Hansel & Gretel Clean Cotton Sweet Pea Sun Washed Linen Those are the ones off my head that I have used with good results in soy. FYI the dreamsicle as mentioned in a previous post is NOT recommended for soy per CS website. They have alot that I've sniffed OOB but have not had a chance to put into soy yet.
  8. I haven't tried it, but, the descrip says it's similiar to Clean Cotton Type which smells nothing like April Fresh Downy. I use the April Downy from JS, it's dead on and is great in soy. ETA- Aztek has an April Fresh Downy. I haven't tried theirs, but, of the dupes I've tried of theirs, they have all been really really good.
  9. Yes being red on red makes them a little hard to make out. They'd look nicer if they were white or silver or even if the snowflakes themselves were white or silver.
  10. I don't see them anymore so maybe they are OOS. This is what they look like. I did a google search and found it on another site, but, this is the same one candlewarmers.com had.
  11. I had a woman a couple years ago ask me at a craft fair to match the price of another candlemaker there. She said well I can get 3 for this price there will you match that or beat their price. I told her no my prices are set and I could give her a deal if she bought 4 or more. She went on and didn't buy from the other person either. Now the big thing to me was, the other persons jars were completely different, smaller and she used parasoy. Why am I going to sell you a bigger candle for the same price as her smaller ones?? People will try anything to "get a deal" or to "make out" but you're not in business to cut deals for everyone especially if they aren't buying in quantities. And as stated above if you do it once they will expect it everytime. Avoid the unneccessary headaches.
  12. Goodness, I have tons of them. Basically I buy in the shapes what I think people might like. Heart, bear, cross etc. and whatever I personally like or think might sell well. Also I have a handful of shapes that are more geared towards the men... horse, steer, deer etc. As for the scents I've done over 45 scents in them. All of them sell well. There again I make what I think people will like. Of course you want to have your basics Apple scents, Fruity scents, Clean scents, Manly scents, and dups. Any Bath & Body, Vic Secret etc sell extremely well. This time of year also have holdiay shapes and scents to offer. Hope that helped some. There's just too many shapes and scents to list them all.
  13. I have no idea on the paper ones as I've never done those, but, the ones I make from the aroma beads sell like crazy here. As lilmama stated above every area is different so there's really no way to tell unless someone is in your particular area that has experience with them. Alot of people sell alot of the single fluted type tarts whereas here I ended up giving them away as free gifts with purchase. Customers here want the clamshells not the singles. If you're really interested in trying it out get some supplies (not too much in amt) and try them out at a show and see how well they go over. If they're a hit you can buy more supplies and go from there, if not you won't be out too much money and product.
  14. It's been alot of years since I used them, but, from what I remember they were good but nothing spectacular. I went to a friends party and tried the consultant thing, but, it wasn't for me. I did get some really nice products for free in doing that which of course is the only way I could afford the glassware. I got one of the tealight lamps which I'm remembering was about 65.00 among alot of other rather expensive free stuff.
  15. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this, but, I'm remembering that they only offer the discount if it's shipped to a business. We had inquired about that at one time and that was what we were told. That could have changed since then. They are just a state down so it's driveable for us a few times a year. If I'm in a real pinch though and need wax I can order and have it the next day with ground service.
  16. We had thought about the table banner thing but thought it was better to go with the banner stand instead. Main reason being is people can't find you until they get right to you if it's attached to the front of the table, whereas with the banner stand people can see where you are rows away. Makes it much easier for your customers that come specifically for you to find you right away. And I agree with you SherriLynn many of these shows are so crowded it would be difficult to see the banner when people are at your table or the people who like to stand right in the middle of everything and just talk to each other. We in the past have had a toe ring lady next to us and her people would take up so much room that sometimes our customers couldn't even get to our table b/c of it. Definately be alot of blocking going on then. We since have requested not to be set up next to her so her people aren't blocking us. Plus being next to nasty feet all day for 3 days straight just made me wanna hurl.
  17. Wow for $25,000 I could almost buy my Stang....
  18. My Dad made ours. It's made from the 3/4 inch pvc pipe. He put a few holes in the banner and used (not sure what they are called) but they are silver ring looking things. You could use many different things to string through the holes to attach to the banner holder, string, ribbon, zip ties etc. but we use the ball bungee cord things. They are like this... When we are done the cords go around the banner to keep it rolled up. Here's a link to show you how to do it. http://www.ehow.com/how_2079334_make-pvc-banner-frame.html
  19. I have a few Christmas scents, maybe a handful that I have. Some people buy the Christmas scents while many stick to the year round sellers. Mulberry, Sugar Cookie, scents like that I can sell year round so I don't really consider them Christmasy whereas Christmas Tree, Spiced Sugar Plum, scents like that are pretty much sellers once a year. As with any show, imo, you should have a variety of scents to choose from so surely any customer could find something they liked. Just like not all people like floral scents (and I'm one of them), not all people like Christmas scents.
  20. From their site : "Soy candles are made from 100% soy" - This isn't always the case. Most soy candles are made from blends of soy plus paraffin, palm and beeswax. Since soy wax is not regulated, producers feel they can call it "soy wax" if it contains as little as 25% soy wax. Yet another one that claims to know what's in most candles... I use soy and I don't add paraffin, palm or beeswax. So I guess according to them I'm in the minority here...lol
  21. I agree with SherriLynn. I don't think the size of the show EVER matters when it comes to quality. Alot of the same people will be at the smaller shows as well as the larger ones. I see some of the same people at multiple shows all year. Many of them come just looking for us (or atleast that's what they say ) Before I started making no way would I spend money on a candle where the wick was out of whack or with the big holes around the wick. Occasionally I get a small hole and I have to fix it. Sometimes it's so small people may not even notice it, but I do so it surely gets fixed. Quality speaks loudly and if the quality is lacking people will go elsewhere and those sellers will be gone before you know it.
  22. I think if you look at the scents they are exactly the same. Also they have the same mailing address.
