    lye

Lowes carries Roebic "crystal drain cleaner" pure lye. Maybe not in high meth areas, but I don't see why they would not.
  2. With NG Creme Brulee and GG Palm I had a good burn with a CSN 7 in the 8 ounce jelly jar. The flame was a little small on the initial burn, but was fine after. This was last year and I never torture tested it or tried a CSN 9 (never got around to offering Creme Brulee for sale). But the 7 had full MP with no hangups by the 34th burn and did not smoke or soot the jar at all. Lasted 39 hours. There, I gave away a trade secret, LOL! My 2 cents. Oh, and never had problems with wick stickums as long as the glass was washed. But unwashed glass always released.
  3. I use a Canon Pixma MX870. Does great, no real complaints. But I do not print labels with pictures or anything, just straight boring text and graphics.
  4. If you are confident in your products, then jump in with both feet! If you are disappointed, consider it a learning experience. Do you have everything in place to sell? Tax/use/resale license so you can collect and pay sales tax, insurance, etc. Never know til you try. And if you do not do it, you might regret it. Just my opinion, though. Whatever you do, have a good holiday. Cheers
  5. Once you pour the FO into the wax, the flashpoint is raised significantly by the wax. There should be NO danger of "flashing off" or igniting. I do believe the "cooking" method is burning off some of her FO, just like using a tart in a warmer! Your method is much better than what she was told.
  6. There really aren't alot of requirements for candles (safety instructions are not even required, lol, but I do not know anyone who does not include it, for obvious reasons), but the actual weight (not jar size for containers) is a requirement, as well as the contact info for the manufacturer or retailer. There is even a requirement on what part of the label it has to be on, lol! I can't remember the exact info, but I know Stella has it. But the labels do look pretty cool. I am not artistic enough to do those type of labels, mine are pretty boring, lol! Cheers.
  7. They look good, but do not forget to put the weight on the label if you are selling them. That is a requirement. Cheers
  8. I don't think they will sell at all! So to save you the heartache, I will send you my address and you can just send them all to me so I can, umm...throw them away for you. It will be no problem at all, you can thank me later. That price seems pretty good, I think people will love them for gifts and for themselves. Great job! I mean, sorry they did not work out, I will get my address to you. I will even let you pay shipping as a thank you...
  9. Oh come on, that candle is not overwicked...if you are trying to clear the enemy out of a pillbox, lol!! I don't sell soy candles, but have made and tested alot, and it appears quite overwicked to me. Bet the glass will be very hot into the burn. And I am betting on lots of soot, especially near the end. The container looks like the Libbey 2328 (Lexington, Chicago?) Old Fashioned, so I imagine a single wick would be much better. Just my opinion.
  10. I just got the one from Tera Hoseck on my Etsy!!! Think I will either ignore or be rude. Don't know which yet... Damn, just went to contact her and her account is no longer on Etsy, guess she pissed off too many people LOL!
  11. I have only used the Whisper jars with Palm wax, which burns differently than 6006. With Palm, I have to double wick the 12 oz (wax weight 9.0 ozs.) jar on all FO's, and some FO's will simply not burn correctly in this jar. Maybe someone will chime in with their experience with 6006. So, not much help, sorry. Just bumping it up for you.
  12. I don't advise anyone to do it. Just saying I do. But I also play with IED's in the desert and get shot at by people, too. Don't advise people to do that either. Lot's on TV tonight, multi-tasking! Oh, and pouring votives, too.
  13. I use a Presto Pot when pouring a small amount of candles. I use a ladle and have no issues. Also, the ladle holds 5 ounces of palm wax, so when I transfer to my pour pots, I have a good idea how much wax is in it before I weigh it. I add FO and dye to the pour pot, not the presto. For larger pours, I use the old turkey fryer (with a spigot). I actually have the materials here to add a spigot to the Presto, just never got around to it. Oh, and just to stir up the hornets nest...I melt small amounts of wax directly in the pour pot on a hot plate! Let the fun begin...
  14. If that is the wax you got from HB, it is probably an inferior wax. Paraffin makes a great candle if you use the correct wax. I personally have not used paraffin in MANY years, but I never had troubles with it. Excellent scent throw from what I remember, takes color very well, and burns well when wicked correctly. I would not judge paraffin by one failed experiment. As far as making candles and tarts from the same wax, probably not meant for both, but I don't know exactly the wax, so just a guess.
  15. This is not bulk lye, but it's lye! http://www.lowes.com/pd_146450-331-HD-CRY-6+CRYSTAL+DRA_0__?productId=3465780&Ntt=drain+cleaner&pl=1&currentURL=%2Fpl__0__s%3FNtt%3Ddrain%2Bcleaner&facetInfo
  16. This really ticks me off! Last week ordered some jars from a supplier I have consistantly used with no problems. Ordered beanpot jar with glass lid, very simple. Well, recieved beanpot jar with some funky black metal lid with the ring on it. Figured, ok, simple mistake. Called them today and they said that is how the jars come now. OK, description says WITH GLASS LIDS, so how does it not come with a glass lid. Problems with the company that makes the jars, glass lid does not fit. Wow, maybe call me before you ship?!? Yes, they will take them back and refund, but it causes me LOTS OF TIME AND STILL HAVE TO ORDER FROM SOMEWHERE ELSE, WASTING MY TIME!!!! WTF, CALL ME BEFORE YOU SHIP SOMETHING I DID NOT ORDER!!! just plain inconsiderate, bad way to do business, and pretty much a DICK move!!!! Oh and no "sorry" just the "will send you a call tag" NEVER USE YOU AGAIN WASTE MY TIME JARSTORE . COM for those wondering. Yeah, the more I think about it, the madder I get! Oh, and I was very polite to them on the phone, just the way I am, but should have yelled... Oh, forgot to add that the jars were so oily/dirty they were opaque! They were not cleaned from the factory. I always wash my glasses, but come on...
  17. This question is 6 years old, lol!
  18. Nice looking soaps. Am I seeing the use of pet food containers for molds? I must try that!
  19. Wow, so since I receive a small disability check from my injuries sustained serving my country, I will never be a success story! Now I am sad...

    Conflicting info

When I was testing different waxes for tarts, I used 100% PB and had it loaded to about 11% FO and it did fine. No seepage, no frosting (undyed), etc. Still have another PB tester laying around that is about 10 months old, dyed with brown, with a 9% FO load and it looks fine. As good as the parasoy blend I tested. Ended up going with a 3 wax soy blend that includes PB and have no problems when I have to go with a 10% FO load (but it is a blend, not straight PB).
  21. I have many customers that use them and I use them. They work very well. The adjustable light (and therefore heat) is a great feature. If you can deal with the bright colors, lol, they do well. The night light ones (plug directly into the outlet) also are good, fit tight in socket and don't have any issues that I know about.
  22. Throws like a bear in Palm wax, and does well in my soy blend tarts.
  23. If these are what you are looking for, they carry them at Fillmore. They are for the 3 1/2 tall by 3 3/16 wide. http://www.fillmorecontainer.com/Lids/89-mm-Silver-Metal-Cover.htm
  24. I usually get a little over 3 ounces of my soy blend in the 1524 clamshells. I sell mine for $3.50 on Etsy and make the standard profit margin after fees. I actually have a couple customers who started buying my melts to use in their Scentsy warmers and they say they work great. But of course Scentsy says only their melts will work in their warmers, lol! Definately have to thank the "Big S" for their promotion of melts. Their customers are quickly realizing that their melts are overpriced and our handmade ones work just as well or better!
