  1. I actually have 3 testers burning right now with Beach Linen in GG Palm wax. I have not really had to wick up with it. The testers I am burning now are actually a 1 wick size down from the initial testers that burned pretty good. But just making sure.
  2. I'm sorry, but I work with Palm wax and am totally turned off with the verbiage of your site. Palm wax is a pretty easy wax to work with, much easier than soy. Just being honest, not trying to put anyone down. But an experienced Palm wax chandler is probably going to chuckle when they read some of the things you wrote. I can see trying to put your product in the best possible light (which we all strive towards), but there is some misinformation there. Not trying to start any fights. Steve
  3. Chandler - I don't know if she was actually born there (I believe she was or moved there when she was little), but her and my Grandfather lived there for a long time. He was an engineer for either the government or some company when they were building tunnels and bridges there for the roads and railroads WAY back when. I think they met when he was there for the work. Her name was Williams and his was Boxley. Not sure when they left Grundy, but it was either right before or right after my Grandfather went to WWII.
  4. Many years ago, for a lark, I made "real" lye soap. Steeped ashes in water to get the lye, etc. The whole old time method, even used rendered fat. Did not really come out so well. Just did not have the experience to do it. Chandler - my grandmother was from Grundy!
  5. This is what I use to make soap. Since I do not mass produce for selling, I do not need to buy in large quantities. Seems to work fine.
  6. I like feather palm and starburst palm. I also use them as a mixture and get incredible HT. Also look very cool.
  7. Fairway has them, that is where I saw them! Thanks! As far as the beanpots from the Jarstore, they are really crappy quality (and dirty as hell) and the glass lids no longer will fit on them. That is where I used to get them from, but they are no longer a viable supplier for me. Thanks everyone.
  8. I know I have seen them somewhere, but have been searching for an hour and can't find them. These are the ones that look like the beanpot jars, not the square ones that some sites are also calling Balmoral jars. Looking for a replacement for the 12 oz. beanpot that is being discontinued. Anyone know where to find these? Thanks.
  9. Short answer - all FO's affect the burn differently to some degree. One FO may burn fine with a certain wick, while another FO may have to be wicked up or wicked down. One batch of the same wax may burn slightly different than another. Varying the percentage of FO will result in a different burn. A change in the air temperature or humidity can affect the burn. Different dyes can affect a burn to different degrees. Pretty much everything that can be varied in a formula can affect the burn. While not as important if you are making candles for yourself, it is VERY important when you are selling them. This applies to pretty much all the different waxes, although some types are not quite as demanding.
  10. Seriously, why don't you guys give it a rest? I always told myself I was going to ignore the personal arguments and attacks going on between certain people, but it is getting a bit out of hand. So why don't we all remember what this board is about and why it is here. Cheers.
  11. Here is a great way to break up wax blocks: Collecting the pieces is a little problematic... Seriously, C4 rocks!!! Sorry, just had to do it.
  12. I have used it for about 1 1/2 years and it is not a best seller, but alot of people like it. Throws like a bear in palm wax. I like it, personally.
  13. Many years ago, when I ordered my first 50 pound case of paraffin (boy I was going big-time then lol) it was in bead form. I do not remember what kind it was, but it was pretty much a straight wax I had to add stearic acid to for pillars.
  14. Yeah, I have always known about the metric requirements, but I just plain refuse to do it, LOL! I'm an American, and I don't have to do it if I don't want to...!
  15. Warning labels are not actually a requirement on candles. Oh, and as for where you put the weight, there is a requirement on where on the label the weight has to be located. I do not have the labeling requirement website handy, but if you search the threads, I know it is listed many times. They require where to put the weight, but do not require you have a warning label, lol.
  16. Next month I will be in PA, about 170 miles from Akron. For the right price I can stop by and rough him up for you. If the police get involved, I can just claim I have delayed onset PTSD from the wars and maybe get in no trouble. OK, I think the right price would be at least a pound of anything chocolate. Maybe brownies? OK, see ya then. $350 for 500 square feet sounds like a pretty good deal, unless it is a VERY rundown area. If there is decent foot traffic during the week, I say go for it. We have First Friday in Richmond, but several times it has turned into a bunch of fights and stuff. Not something I want to go to, but the idea was good. They tried to make an Arts District in downtown Richmond, but I don't believe it is going so well. And rents there are about $800 to $1000 for a 500 foot space. Of course most spaces are like 2000 sq ft. Lots of big, old buildings (the ones you Yankees did not burn down, or was that us...).
  17. Just a small rant here. Was looking at candles on Etsy, and of the 10 I looked at, ALL were labeled incorrectly. Either no weight listed, or the weight listed was the container measure. If you use a 12 ounce jar, it will not hold 12 ounces of wax (at least all the jars I have ever used). So anyone looking to start selling candles, please please please, label them with the actual wax weight in the candle! Oh, and the burn time is not a weight, LOL. Putting the weight on your label is not only a good idea, it is mandatory. Sorry, just a pet peeve and could not stand it any longer. Thank you.
  18. I only use a couple of scents from Lonestar, because I order mostly from closer suppliers. But these FO's are better from LS (IMO), so I get them there. Good customer service.
  19. Well, I agree with your competition, your products are crap and definately over-priced. That's why I shop with him! BTW, where is Akron? Oh, I have sent a couple Etsy customer towards your shop who were looking for oil warmers, since I can't sell mine on Etsy. I hope you got some business out of it. Seriously, I would let the financial situation decide what you want to do. Is it better staying where you are, or will you make more money moving to the other market? I would not take him into account, do what is best for the business. But, of course, your sanity will probably have a little impact on the decision. It is a shame to let him "win", but not really worth the bother in the end. And if you do decide to move, tell the management it is their fault you had to move, just poke at them a bit, LOL! Or I could show you some nice tricks the Iraqi's taught me....
  20. Just received this feedback today, kinda timely, lol! "I love that they are soy - very creamy and dye free. I would buy from you again for sure." Cheers
  21. No color used here! I have had lots of customers comment that they like the natural look, but never one that said they preferred colored. Whe I first started making them, I used color, but quickly got away from it. Also, some colors and/or Fo's tend to frost very quickly, and I do not like frosted tarts. The undyed ones do not tend to frost for quite a while. By which time I have sold out or put them on clearance. Just my opinion.
  22. Just off the top of my head maybe try mixing Christmas Hearth (CS) with Twilight in the Woods (NG) or Cracklin Birch (NG) or something like that? Never tried either, but just popped into my head. Cheers
  23. My IV tubing is made from locally grown reeds. Natural, sustainable, some leaking, and painful as hell, the needle is HUGE...
  24. I am not agreeing or disagreeing with any of the above post. But had to clear up one thing. Due diligence is NOT subjective in a court of law if one is being sued for product liability. Just sayin... Not trying to start any arguments. Cheers.
