  1. This show was a first for me, but I did ok. It's hard to know what will sell each time. Please let me know what you think of the set up. Thanks Cindy
  2. I use dried herbs and EO and mix them in a tree resin base. It is more work than the sticks but it is unusual and all natural. So that is a big selling point for the powdered. You don't add chemicals and you don't need charcoal. People love to see how it works so I often demonstrate it. I have a lot of herbal books and do a lot of research on the mixtures. Right now I have about 20 different kind that I sell. I have fun finding the right mixture and it is a very wooded herbal type smell. It's not for everyone. Cindy
  3. I make my own powdered incense. It sells really well here and when i was in FL it went over very well. Sometimes I sell more of the incense than I do candles, but I found a way to package them to make them look different. I always burn incense when I am at shows or the Farmer's Market, that brings people in to see what is smelling so good... then I get to demonstrate how it works... so for me the powdered incense works the best. Cindy
  4. Thanks everyone. Think I will start looking for more designs
  5. I dropped the clam shell packing and use a mold. People seem to like the different shapes. These were all very good ideas...I think I carry too many scents... I will need to review what sold last year and stick with those. I have decided to do this full time now and will have the time to really make everything handmade even the tags will be stamped. I am trying to make a go of this and every little bit helps. Thanks to everyone on this form for their help. Cindy
  6. I love using stencils and candle paints... please let me know what you think... of course this picture was taken with my cell phone.. it was a setup I had on a shelf at work. Thanks Cindy
  7. I am the only candle seller at our local Farmer's Market and I would be really ticked off it they let other candle sellers there. I have been doing this market for over 7 years. It is hard enough to make money being the only candle maker, if they let 2 or more it would really cut down on my sales. I was in another market on Saturday and dropped that one when they added another candle person. It really cut into my sales and profit. Sorry if it seems selfish, but I think if you are a loyal vendor you should get preferential treatment. Cindy
  8. Great Idea.... it gives me lots of ideas. Thanks for sharing Cindy
  9. This was a very interesting thread to read. I am in the process of leaving a job of 35 years and going into business full time selling candles. We are moving out of Florida (very hard to make much money on crafts here) and yp to NC. This is my dream job. I love making and selling candles. I have been working at the local Farmer's Market for the pass 6 year plus my full time job. It has been very hard and I find I am getting burned out, but it's on the day job that has burned me out. I want to work on something that really makes me happy and brings peace to my life. Just my thoughts. Cindy
  10. I really like the black lines... It looks very different ... I love that. What company did you buy the driftwood from? I would love to try it.. Thanks Cindy
  11. How much soy do you add to a lb of palm? I love to make these candles, sometimes they are just too brittle. Thanks Cindy
  12. What size wick are you using? I love to make floating candles, but I can never get them to burn that long. I must be using the wrong size wick. Most of the time they burn for about 15 minutes right down the middle. Thanks for any help Cindy
  13. Yes I used a stencil. That's the only way I can paint. :smiley2:
  14. I found this link in the forum this is what I ordered. https://www.uchida.com/eUchida/so/so_prod/so_prod_list.aspx?Cat1id=10010
  15. Thanks to this forum I found the perfect paints. I love painting on candles, it was so easy and fun. Please let me know what you think. Thanks Cindy
  16. I love your candles. They are always so beautiful and inspiring. Would you be able to share what type wax you use? I love to make these candles but none of mine come out as nice or as white as yours do. Also do you ever have a problem with the wax fading? Thank you Cindy
  17. Which pens did you buy? I couldn't tell from the site which ones were for candles. I love the idea. Thanks Cindy
  18. May I ask you what wick you are using? I am having a problem with the votives burning too fast and melting right down the middle. Thanks for any help you can give me. Thanks Cindy
  19. I got both of these two. I did change the name. EOJ to Magi, still thinking abouth the other one. I did not want to get in a debate with anyone buying candles about the name of the scent which is why I changed it.. Although I did have someone say one smelled like Jesus... hmm.. .wonder how they knew that..... Cindy
  20. I set up at the Farmer's Market every Sunday. I do not package my candles so people can pick them up and smell. My question do most people package their candles so they don't lose their scent? These would be palm wax or paraffin candles. I usualy package up my tea lights and votives. Thanks Cindy
  21. I use propay and wait until I get home to put the credit card number through. I do get their phone numbers now. I have only had 3 been declined in the past 2 years, and one was my fault. The other was $3 and I should have known better... the last one was from a Dr and I got her number and she gave me a hard time when I called and said the cc number didn't go through. Don' t worry she is now on my list and I will not accept credit cards from her again. I have thought about bringing my laptop to the Farmer's Market with me to process the credit cards, but just haven't made the move yet. It's sad when someone stells from you, and that is how I look at it. Cindy:(
  22. I love the candles and yes I would say $1.50 or more would be right. Is this one mold? or are you putting the rose on top of the votive after you make it? I love it and have a lot of ideas...if it is one mold, you would mind sharing the place you purchased it? Thanks Cindy
  23. I use 4oz tins, and a few 1 oz tins. I offer then as candles to go.... good for travel. I know a lot of people carry the jars, and I thought the tins would be easier for me to carry and store. So far they do great.
  24. Ok.. gave it a try and loved it. I found out if I used the small bite size mold that is silcone then cut the chunks into 4 pieces it's just right.
  25. I need some help. I have a mold from Yaley that is plastic that I really love. It doesn't last long. It's for making chunks. Perfect size. I would love to make a silcone mold for this. Does anyone know how to make this?? Or anyone I can contact to get this made? Thank you everyone for your help Cindy
