1. I checked this thread before I started selling my lip balm. I had a big craftshow this past weekend and sold 29 tubes...I was dancing..So I sold 1 for $3 or 2 for $5, most people bought 2. There was another person selling hers for $1.75, but she wasn't selling much.
2. I do a local Farmers Market twice a week. Wednesdays are slower, but I look at it all as a marketing venture. I am happy if I sell, and I do have repeat customers. I think if you bring in $100 or more for each show that is good. This is a very slow time of year, and at several of the craft shows I did, other vendors have also said how slow things are. So like others said, if you enjoy it and are not losing money then just keep at it. Cindy
3. I really wanted to go but had already sign up for a craft show. Please post back about the convention. Maybe I can go next year. Cindy
4. I use battery power fans. I have two on the table blowing across the candles and the scent brings people into the tent.
5. I have been using Square since Nov. I had only one person email me to say I charged her twice when I had to swipe the card more than once. I went to the website where I can print out each transaction and only saw once charge. When I emailed the person back and told them of the information I had and if they would please let me know the last 4 digits of their card I would contact the company to see what happened. She had to give me a 2nd card since the first one wouldn't work. Never heard from her again. I like the fact I can get a print out of all charges. I use to have propay and would have to go home after the shows and process the card, 3 times I ended up having to eat the cost because the cards were denied. I love square, so far my customers like the fact that I can show them when the card is processing and that they will be mailed a receipt. This has really increased my sales and I am very happy with Square. In fact many of the vendors now at the local Farmer's Market are now using Square. I read the article and I don't see how this would be any different than if I use the credit card sheets and manually entered the charges when I got home, I would still have all their information. just my 2 cents worth Cindy
6. Beautiful pillars...I love the colors you are using for Spring Cindy
7. I received the same letter by email....but when the person mention jar candle, I had them.. I do not and never have sold candles in jars. I only sell in tins or pillars. So I knew it was a scam right away. I just laughed and deleted the email. But yes he did email me from my website. Cindy
8. I love the colors. I am starting to work with making darker colored candles. Just have to practice more...
9. I love your labels... they are very classy and your candles are beautiful
10. Sharon, yes I did. I have been trying to do everything handmade on the table even some of the display if I can. My sister taught me how to make the toppers and I really like the way they turned out. Thanks
11. They turned out very nice... I really like the colors
12. I have a bucket of sand I use to set my candles in... Keep them level and if they do leak, a lot easier t clean up.
13. Sorry the pictures are a bit blurry but these were taken with my cell phone. Was busy working in my Mom's garage while we are in FL visiting family. Please let me know what you think of them. Thanks Cindy
14. I reuse tins. I only make container candles in tins. I even offer a discount if people will recycle their tins... too much waste otherwise in my opinion. I have had no problems with the tins. Cindy
15. I will keep making palm wax candles...first of all they hold up so well in the heat... I was tired of all my soy pillars not holding up so well in the heat. Plus I love the way palm wax holds scents.. I used to make mostly paraffin candles, but they just wouldn't sell because so many people were told that they soot too much and are toxic to breath...give me a break... I still have people that come up to me and want only soy because it's "natural" and won't hurt you... I gave up trying to educate my clients... If they want soy, I'll make soy. Palm wax was another way for me to sell "natural wax" candles....sigh.... I love the way they look. Yep I'll keep buy palm wax and just start looking for another place to purchase it. I like CS because I live in NC and got next day service....sigh... Cindy
16. I don't have a timesaver...but writing down all of these as they are great and will save me lots of time. I agree about the labels ...drives me crazy when I have to take the time to print out the labels and they don't turn out right then walk away and forgot what scent I poured...ugh
17. I used only the square now and am very happy with it. I think I will have to pick up a stylus because I don't really like having people use their fingers on my iphone but other than that it is great. They seems to like the fact they can get an email receipt. I still have propay but think I will let it run out next year and just stick with square. the money was in my account the next day. love it Cindy
18. I would love a copy.... please... I have been making candles for years, but have yet to sit down and figure out if I am really making any money at it.... I know, not a very smart thing to do. If you don't mind I would love to have a copy of your template and try it out. Thank you Cindy
19. Thank you for the advise.. Yes I was under a tent but against a fence, hot day .... Good idea about the height, will work on getting some crates or shelves. Thank you again Cindy
20. That is what I did. I googled the local towns around me and checked out their event calendars. I have in the past paid for some of those magazines and newspapers that are suppose to list all the craft shows..but I find that they are not listing the ones in my area.... or most of them are way out of my price range. I just moved to this are in June, so I am still checking out local shows. I signed up to do a few this year and will just go and check out some other ones. I am starting to find out that ones that charge $100 or more to be in them are not worth my time.... I am not making a profit on those.. not sure why but the smaller ones I do well at. just my 2 cents worth Cindy
21. I do the Farmer's Market on Wednesday and Saturday.... This past Wednesday I sold absolutely nothing...... a lot of lookers but nothing... the week before was great. It is so hard to tell what will sell and each week seems to be something different. I did have a craft show over Labor Day weekend where someone picked up my card and did contact me about an wholesale order.. so that was something. Yesterday I did a show at a metaphysical fair... I was the only vendor there selling candles, so that was good. I did pretty well considering how slow it was...but the good news is I had the store owner ask me about consignment and a new customer asked me if I would do consignment at her new store.. so those are looking positive. How do most people feel about consignment?? Cindy
22. I love this... I bought some at Michaels last year too.... I even found some that were the shape of christmas trees. I didn't sell very many of them and am still trying to figure out if I am going to make them again this year. I priced them at $8 and thought that was a very fair price...just not sure why they didn't sell well. Cindy
