  1. Wow, they all look spectacular - such clean lines. You have certainly mastered the art of layering. Nice job on the mottle - looks lovely and not a pin prick in sight (wish I could say the same of mine :undecided).
  2. Laura, they all look really gorgeous. I'm sure that they'll be very popular. Well done.
  3. I agree with Aspencreek entirely. I've found (while trying to improve my own photographic skills) that putting the candle on a sheet of A3 white paper that's resting against a box or something so that the paper is both the base and the background gives a much better finish. Good luck.
  4. They look really striking - nice job.
  5. Hi Sabrina, Good to see that you've have time to make some more candles. The blue and the orange-yellow are my favourites. Just love those layers. Mozz
  6. Donita, I see, you use Janet's for when you don't have a mould with a hole (that sounds weird but you know what I mean). I've got the Pourette plugs but maybe Janet could make me some that are slightly bigger and I could add a rod and screw to them. BTW. I'm test burning a couple of pillars, one with cork on the base on the cavity and the other with cork all round and on the base. The cork-all-round one looks pretty awful aesthetically so am still exploring further options. I'm going to also test what happens if I add beeswax or microwax to palm. I was thinking about 3% - any thoughts? Portia, I'll keep you posted on the results I get (if any are successful). Thanks to everyone for your input, it makes it easier to keep on trying.
  7. Hello and welcome, you're in for a fun (and eventful) ride.
  8. I don't have a page with colours but agree with Scented: Navy is the darkest and Wedgewood is the lightest.
  9. Donita, what creepy looking hole maker? I'm using tea-light plug inserts but know that some people use some sort of drill so I'm thinking that if I need to make the hole bigger to fit the cork I could use some other sort of hole maker. Could you please post a picture of what you're talking about? Same goes for anyone else who is using a drill or some other means of making a tea-light cavity. Thanks.
  10. Sabrina, that is so funny. Send me a slab straight away. Mozzie
  11. Thanks for the tip Donita but I don't have access to hurricane wax, also I especially wanted to use palm for the lovely effects it has and hoped that it would be a high enough melt point. Apparently I was wrong. Curses. I've just done a search for some glass tea light holders and have requested the dimensions. If they fit, hopefully that'll do the trick. Cheers, Mozz
  12. Beth, do you mean that there are glass cups available that plastic tea-light cups will fit in to or that plastic tea-light cups are replaced by the glass cup? And, where can I get them? Ta, Mozz
  13. Hi, I just made an everlasting candle (pillar with tea light plug insert) in palm wax and gave it a test burn. Well, it looked pretty good but the tea light melted the wax around it so that the cavity where the tea light sits is now far too wide. What do those of you who make these candles do to prevent this? TIA. Mozz
  14. Dear Cliff, Best of luck with the surgery - with your great optimism and courage (and a smidgeon of help from the surgeons), I'm sure you'll be up and running in no time. As for the candle making, I know that you've thought long and hard about it but maybe quitting isn't the right answer at the moment, how about just cutting back? Lots of people use their kitchens for melting wax so how about just rethinking your candle making on a new, smaller scale. It would be such a shame to totally sell off all your supplies just to find that you get the urge again and have to start over. Of course, you'll do what's right for you but for all our interfering we're just trying to be helpful (What's that quote about the road to hell being paved with good intentions ). Oh, and this doesn't let you off the hook for visiting me in Oz - I'm holding you to that no matter what. LOL. So while your candle making is ON HOLD leading up to the surgery I hope you'll keep on looking in and sharing your wonderful insights and humour with us. Lots of love. Mozzie
  15. They all look really good, especially the Indonesian Teak - just lovely.
  16. I've just started using the Raytek MRT-6 (thanks to Julie Kay who ordered and posted it out to me). What bliss! Instant temperature readout. No wax to wipe off. You just need to make sure that your wax is thoroughly stirred so that the temp. on the surface is the same throughout the wax. Here's a link to the post that got me ordering this wonder creation: http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16056 HTH. Mozz
  17. They look absolutely adorable - bet your Mum loves them. I hear that citronella candles need to be wicked up, is that your experience?
  18. Hi Shonda, welcome aboard. As you are already a b&b'er you don't need to be told how addictive and expensive this candle making business can be but it sure is a lot of fun. I wish you all the best and am glad that your soap business is doing so well. Mozz
  19. Now, that is something you don't see every day! Very original idea, and great colour. Your candle will certainly have people looking twice. Good job.
  20. Very cute idea and great colour (yes, I know it's meant to be green, I meant the shade chosen. LOL)
  21. They are very cute - how creative are you! Great job.
  22. Donita, that is just lovely. Its' a good job that you rescued that book before you were down to only 900,000 ideas though bad luck to Bruce. Portia, you must feel very proud of your star pupil - congratulations!
  23. Veronica, if it was supposed to be 3" longer it wouldn't have leaked so looks like it was really meant to be this size (how's that for 'loving what is' logic!). I know how frustrating it is when things (candles) don't turn out as anticipated but despite all that your candle looks simply gorgeous, and I won't tell anyone if you won't. LOL
  24. Cheryl, you are quite simply the Queen of Elegance! Stunning, as always.
