  1. Looks interesting - I like it. Keep posting those test results.
  2. What a gorgeous, thoughtful present. I am sure that your fil will love and appreciate it. Very nicely done.
  3. Guilty as charged. I got fed up waiting for my double boiler to reach a decent temp (besides all the steam it was generating - I'm not into saunas. LOL) so I always put my melting pot directly onto the electric burner (and yes, I do watch the temps. pretty carefully). Mind you, I only make about one candle at a time so don't know what impact melting large quantities would have.
  4. Beautiful candles and colour. Nice rustic too.
  5. Lin, I love them all - they are gorgeous. Definite best sellers.
  6. All I know about black dye is that in paraffin it usually comes out purple, however I've been told that adding a bit of yellow counteracts the purple making the black black again (if that makes sense). Personally I add brown dye to black dye to make my black black. I know that this hasn't actually answered your question per se but thought that it may help you in your experimentation. Good luck with the wizard.
  7. Sorry, don't have any idea but am writing to suggest that you also ask this question in the fragrance section of this board as you may get the information you need there.
  8. Wow, you have been incredibly creative. I can only imagine how long it took to get those perfect layers on the Cornucopia ball and all the time the fo was making you feel sick. Still it doesn't show in the outcome which shows what a true professional you are. My favourites are Tropical Nights, Baby Powder and White Sands.
  9. You've done a great job on those layers - they look perfect. Well done.
  10. That looks wonderful. Isn't it exciting when things turn out even better than you hoped. Those ball moulds are a bit tricky but well worth the effort.
  11. Those are such fun projects - love 'em all, especially the citrus and the moon and stars. What fo (if any) did you use with the citrus? I'm having trouble finding a straight orange that doesn't smell like fuel when burning. Any suggestions? Mozzie
  12. Nice job - looks like you centred it beautifully. Congrats.
  13. Love the yellow pyramid - it looks like a little shrine to all things nice. Really sunshiney.
  14. I like those colours together. They put me in mind of the sea. I bet your son loves it.
  15. Heat guns are used for the same reason over here. You will find that candle makers use lots of tools that are really designed for another purpose. Perhaps if you are having trouble finding a tool in Greece you could ask this forum what it is really meant to be used for. καλή τύχη(!). (I hope that means Good luck).
  16. I see that on the same website as the cat moulds there are paints for sale: http://www.spiritcrafts.net/missup.html. Any type of acrylic craft paint should be fine. Good luck.
  17. They are gorgeous and as for the colour not going with the scent - piffle, say I. You make them to please you and no-one else and if you like that colour and that fo then that's the end of the story. LOL - lecture over. Great job.
  18. Jo, I am struck dumb trying to find adjectives to describe how stunning each of those candles is. I love them all. You have been busy and with what a wonderful result. Mozz
  19. They are really striking - I gotta try me some of them. She'll love them.
  20. Simply beautiful and very elegant - great colour.
  21. Just made a swirl pillar and it has some major defects which I've photographed in the hope that some of you will have some answers for me. Firstly, the fill wax hasn't filled in the hole where the first ring lies - this is happened more than once and I can't fathom why. You can also see the sinking in the 3rd pic. The 2nd pic shows pitting which is only down one side. I poured at (pause while I convert to farenheit) 180 into a room temp. mould then heated mould with heat gun for 2 minutes. 3rd pic is of finished result, which looks alright from a distance.
  22. Top, thanks for the extra info re infra-red. How fast do you get a reading on your Taylor thermometer, as that's my biggest gripe?
  23. Hey Cliff, I feel your pain (and frustration). I find that pouring at 82C or over is asking for trouble but I just poured some wax at 80C and it was fine. Who would have thought that 2C would make that much difference. BTW I prime my wicks.
