  1. You are lucky to be Donita's friend. She has made a lot of "long-distance" friends here on the Candletech forum as well and I, personally, would love to meet her one day. I certainly have to agree that she is one of the most talented people I have ever seen. Everything she has posted on these threads is a true work of art. She has shared a lot of her time and talent free of charge to people here and I think it's about time she is paid for her efforts. I wouldn't blink an eye to pay a price to tap into her knowledge and talents.
  2. Those are some of the most lovely candles I have ever seen. I am so glad you shared this site with us!
  3. At the moment I use straight FO. What is DPG and where do you get it?
  4. I don't see much problem with them, although I would never make one to sell, simply because I do not have enough knowledge on how to make a safe one. However, to say we shouldn't have them because kids will see mom use it and repeat what mom did, then I have a hundred stories to share. A personal one is that I recall watching my dad shave his whiskers when I was little. I was a girl but I admired my dad and wanted to be like him. So after he left the bathroom, I took the single edge razor out of the medicine cabinet and proceeded to cut the heck out of my upper lip! My parents didn't think of suing the razor manufacturer ... rather, I got a smack on my bottom and was told to leave daddy's things alone!
  5. I keep my wax in plastic tubs (Rubbermaid type) on shelves in my garage. (My garage is under the house so it stays fairly cool all summer).
  6. Electric tartwarmers with tarts would be one idea. Another idea would be to hang an auto air freshener in each examining room. I not only use mine in the car, but I also hang one on the towel bar in my bathroom and it works great to scent a room like that.
  7. I just got my stickers from Squeals Delight yesterday. Unfortunately, I ordered 100 but only received 50 ... BUT, I have to add that I called Gwen right away and she was putting the rest of my order in the mail immediately. She's great to work with! As far as what I am going to do with the stickers. I was thinking of the % off on your next purchase, receive a free 8 oz. jelly jar with your next purchase, etc. I'd like to make them all winners "with your next purchase." Is that being unreasonable?
  8. I won't even step into the soy/paraffin discussion. Here are just a couple of minor corrections I found: On the "Damaged Packaging" page, the sentence should read, " ... carefully package our products with the utmost care." On the "About Me" page, in the second paragraph, I'd add another comma after the words, "just like many others" . In the third paragraph, I'd put a comma between the words "long" and "time consuming." On the "Home" page, "exfoliating" is one word. I like the look of the website so far. I have told you before, but I REALLY like your logo. It's very professional looking, simple and clean. You're getting there. Just take your time and it will be great. Are you designing this site yourself? I like the layout. Nice!!
  9. On a candle-making note, I think this weekend I'm going to pour some testers in my new enamelware cups I got from Mnhorseman's co-op. They are SOO cute!!!! On a different note, I am being BAPTIZED on Saturday evening!!!!!!!
  10. Heat guns can make even us older folks happy!!! Glad you were able to help her out!
  11. Those are really cute! I love the instructions on your label!!!
  12. WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!? I think that cut-n-carve candle is beautiful!!! You should be very proud of your work. I could never do anything like that!
  13. A cheaper way would be to purchase an impulse sealer and a heat gun. Both can be found relatively inexpensively. I got my impulse sealer at Harbor Freight and heat guns can be found at Wal-Mart in the paint section.
  14. Vicky: Thanks for the tip!! I, too, ordered 100 scratch off labels from Squeals Delight yesterday and used the 10% off coupon. Like ladeanad, I got my confirmation email very quickly and they will be shipped out today. I'm looking forward to making up my cards.
  15. Absolutely beautiful presentation! You are a natural with the camera!!
  16. I do not do soap ... yet ... but I am SO IMPRESSED with what I see on this board. Girl, your soaps look heavenly and I just LOVE your packaging. If I saw those for sale, I'd snatch them up in a heartbeat. Wonderful, wonderful work!!!!
  17. Everyone is big on the net wt. on the label because it is required by law under the Fair Packaging and Labeling Act.
  18. It feels good, doesn't it? I'd keep on testing those candles until you are comfortable enough to sell the scents you have mastered. Sounds to me like you are on the right track. In the meantime, I'd go ahead and make tarts to sell. At least you'd make a few bucks to keep you in FO's.
  19. Sunday we are hosting my son's high school graduation party. Cleaned up the yard, spruced up the patio, have everything ready to go, and now they're predicting thunderstorms! Figures!!! I'm off work Monday, so that is the day I will be pouring candles for orders I need to fill.
  20. ALWAYS! I look at everything as a potential candle container! I think when I have an idea, instead of a light bulb popping up above my head, it's a flame!!
  21. I am testing these jars right now but when I'm ready to sell them, I plan to use a 2-1/2" round label on the lid.
  22. We don't hate you, but that sucks! Seriously, you are so lucky!!
  23. My first candles were 8 oz. jelly jars. IMO, they are probably one of the easier jars to wick and depending on your location, most of the time jelly jars can be found locally, which cuts down on expenses. Again, depending on where you live, even if you have to order them and have them shipped, they are not as expensive as other jars may be.
  24. This has been a very interesting thread. I am fairly new to selling so your insight is very valuable. Thanks!
