  1. This may be the wrong place to post this, and if so, sorry :lipsrseal !!! I want to get into soap making (CP) but dont have the money right now to purchase items. I have alot of candle stuff for sale on the classies board, here's the link: http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62997 If anyone wants to trade candle stuff (molds, wax, FO) for soap stuff (need soap, molds, FO, additives) please PM me. We will both be responsible for our own shipping, so will be even trade. I would like to make soap baskets for the women in my family for christmas. Please PM me if your interested. Dana
  2. Every set of candle making instructions I have ever read say "melt 1 lb of wax" or whatever, so I have always weighed and then melted.
  3. Oh-MYo...I started off using the DB method and could never ever keep my wax at the right temp. I was constantly turning turning up the heat, turning down the heat, and when timing is everything in candlemaking, you really need to be able to keep your wax at the right temp consistently. A presto pot does this and that is why so many ppl favor them over the DB method. And the wax melts so much faster, which is nice too.

  5. Hi guys, hope everyone is doing well! I've been on the candle site for a long time and have decided to venture into bath and body. Im most interested in soap, lotion and lip balms right now, and later I'll try other things. Can someone tell me the difference between cold pour and melt and pour soap? I am thinking of ordering some stuff from Peak today (or somewhere else) and need to know first whether I'll do CP or M&P. Any information you can give me will be so much appreciated! Thanks so much!
  6. Hi guys! Been a long time since I posted, but I look and read every day! Question...I was at CVS last night picking up a few things and I came across a shelf full of container candles they had for sale. Dont remember the name of the company but they were in very pretty apothocary jars. Anyway, of course, being a candlemaker, I had to stop and check them out. The wax was very hard for being a container wax. I thought container wax was supposed to be soft. It almost felt like a pillar wax that was used in containers. I could push on it with my finger as hard as I could and it would not leave any marks..not even a little dent. There were a few wet spots but nothing horrible. The wax did not shrink alot and pull away from the sides of the jar like pillar wax would do. Back when I was very new at this and didnt know that there's special wax for containers..I poured some no name parafin into a container and it shrunk really bad and would rattle inside the jar. These candles didnt do that. Anyway, just wondering if anyone might know what wax was used for these and if maybe there's something you can add to pillar wax to make it good for containers. Thanks!! Any info is appreciated.
  7. Gorgeous as always E! Really wish I could get that technique down. Thanks for sharing!
  8. Yep, Hubby and I have went thru about 4 sets of burner covers because of that. Good thing they're cheap to replace! Glad everything is ok!!!
  9. That looks like a spot where the repour wax didnt make it in. I always poke 4 holes, at the top, bottom and both sides of the wick. Ive never had that happen. HTH
  10. I use 1274 also, 1 oz FO pp (the more FO, the better the mottle) and heat mold to 200 and pour at 195. Works great for me!
  11. :laugh2: LOL, thanks TX! That was great reading!!!
  12. You waited too long to pour your next layer it sounds like. They didnt adhere very well. As Eugenia says, "timing is everything!" She had one split apart too.
  13. why a wick will do great for the first few burns and then start sooting?
