  1. Has anyone know the difference between their Standard Fragrances, Ultimate Fragrances and Value Fragrances? Which do you recommend for candles and tarts? I've used the Sweet Pea and Gardenia in the Ultimate line and they're FANTASTIC...everyone loves them.
  2. Hi everyone... I make tarts and I've just begun trying container candles. I am using GenWax right now because they're about 30 miles away but I just don't really care for the GenWax128 that I'm using. It shrinks alot so i always have to do a repour on my tarts. Does anyone know of a supplier that won't charge an arm and a leg for wax shipping that has a good wax that doesn't have a lot of shrinkage and comes out smooth on top after it cools? I live on the West Coast, I'm assuming that would make a difference in shipping charges. Thank you in advance!
  3. Hi everyone....I made my first candle the other day and I was looking through the posts to see if I could get a list of things to test for but I couldn't find anything. Does anyone have a list of exactly what kinds of things i should be looking for when I do a test burn? Also, how do you pour your candles? Do you make just enough wax mixture to pour the one candle you're going to test or do you make it in quanitity and pour one to melt and then remelt the wax when you're ready to pour the other candles? I'm not sure how this works. I hope that makes sense :undecided Any advice would be greatly appreciated !! Thank you!
  4. I actually burned it again last night for a couple of hours and the scent of lavender completely filled my bathroom! It was great! Maybe i just need to let it sit for a day or two. I put the wick in crooked (This was my first candle!) so it's leaving a little bit of wax around one edge but the rest looked good. There was a little bit of black smoke coming from the wick. Does anyone know that this could be from?
  5. Hi everyone... I bought some new storage organizers to keep my tarts in. They're sets of plastic drawers (with the 5pp logo on the bottom) and each set has 3 drawers. I have 18 drawers altogether. Everytime I walk into that room it just smells soooooo wonderful in there. Is this a bad thing?
  6. Hi everyone...today i decided to go ahead and get a DBA and Fed ID # and business license in my city. So I did the first 2 things and everything is good. Then I called my city to get a business license application. I live in an aparment. They told me that they don't allow businesses to be conducted in apartments. So now what do I do? It's purely a mail-order and internet business. Only tarts and burners right now. I have no idea what my next step should be. It's a part time business and i can't afford to get a storefront. Thanks for any advice
  7. Great ideas!! Thank you so much! So the only way to lower the melting point of the wax is to add oil or grease? Can anyone tell me in what quantities? Thanks!! I'd love to make scented container candles with this wax. By the way, they are the large pillars you find in catholic church...they're probably 8"-12" tall.
  8. Hi everyone... My boyfriend's mom gave me a box of candles from her church...the kinds they use during the service or weddings. They're just plain white or ivory wax pillars, no scent, no nothing. Does anyone have any ideas what I should do with them? Can i melt them down and make something with them? Tarts or ?? Thanks!!
  9. Hi everyone... I attempted to make my first candle the other night. I used Candlewic's Lavender Freesia scent - 1oz in 1 lb of GenWax 128 container wax with 1 tsp vybar. I poured it into a small container - 5oz or maybe a little more. I used the wick that they recommended at the wax store (I don't have the exact number with me). The cold scent throw was really good but the hot scent throw was not great. The melt pool was good....wax melted up to the sides of the container. If i put my head close to the candle i could smell it, but the fragrance didn't fill the room (bathroom), which was my goal. I didn't let the candle cure before lighting it...could that be it? Or maybe I need a bigger wick because of the high % of fragrance? The wick is the recommended size for the container. Any insight would be really helpful...thank you so much!
  10. Thanks! I've never made votives. In what quantities do you think I should add the wax? 50/50? I'm sorry, I'm new at this and the old wax I used worked perfectly but the shipping charges were killing me. I decided to try the Genwax instead.
  11. Thank you so much for your reply. The wax isn't soy, it's a paraffin. If i don't add the vybar then the scent won't hold, right? I tried just adding 1 teaspon and the wax still caved in the middle. I tried doing a repour, but it made them look worse. Should I pour a little bit under the top of the mold and then let it cool and then refill it? Will the 2 pours separate when I unmold them?
  12. Hi everyone... I just bought a new wax ... Genwax 128 Votive/Container wax and I poured my first tarts with it. I used 1 oz scent per pound and 1% of vybar 260. The tops came out really concave...like a cake comes out if you open the oven too often. My question is, how can I prevent this? I hate to do a repour for tarts. And should I fill the tarts to just under the top so I can repour without them coming out funny? Thank you for your help! I'm really stumped!
  13. That's why I have stopped selling on Ebay. Everyone sells their tarts dirt cheap. My tarts are really good quality and I can't sell them for the prices people on Ebay want. Especially because I don't buy my supplies in bulk since I don't make a huge amount just yet.
  14. Hi everyone....I want to package my tarts 2 to a bag and use those Cello bags and tie with a ribbon. The molds are 2-1/4" x 3/4" x 1-3/8". Do you think a 3-1/2 x 2 x 7-1/2 cello gusseted bag work well if I'm packing them 2 to a bag?
  15. No apologies necessary Brad. Thanks for responding. I just don't know how to fix it. If I pour it cooler then it might get air bubbles, right?
