  1. The 50/50 from Farmhouse is a one pour and it burns even and clean all the way down to the bottom of my jars and when it gets about 1 in or so, I take my heat gun and melt the rest of it out and it rinses out clean with hot water.
  2. TYCHELS~ I like the blends for two reasons..... one is I get the benefit of both soy and paraffin with out all of the problems if I were to use one or the other. two is that there is a lot of controversy with paraffin so I can honestly say that I am using a soy blend to customers who have already made up their minds about the dangers of paraffin. Three, I do not have to add any additives and it is a one pour. Ok that was three, I know but I can actually think of more but I think this gives you the idea. About how do you know if your candles are safe to sell.......you have to spend a lot of time testing everything you make from the combos of the wicks, wax and fo's to make sure they all work together. I usually test two of the candles I make from each batch just to make sure I get the same if not comparable results. As long as they do the same and are burning evenly with little to no soot, then I am happy.
  3. That is great to know.....I used the 4630 and hated it and then I just finished up with a case of FH's 50/50 and I was disappointed with it. The only wax I have ever used that I loved is the CS 1275 and I am not about to go back to them. So.....I will check out the 6006. Thanks:highfive:
  4. They are carnation candles and the girl that was at my show was the sister of the girl who actually makes them. The fo rings were attached to the hanging tag labels on the candles. They were not in the candle itself. They were beautiful candles. The only difference in hers than mine are that I do not wrap mine in homespun or do the rusty tins that she has attached to hers. Then she also sells the replacement bulbs for $2.00 and says you can only use her bulbs. I am not sure how well they did at your show but they did not do so hot at mine.
  5. Did you get the yaleys thermometer in the pot kit from Micheals? I used that eons ago and if I remember correctly that thing never went over the 175 mark.
  6. That sounds like a neat idea but totally flammable.
  7. I am sooooo glad that you posted this!! I was going to try this wax but chickened out. Is it a one pour? I cant recall..... What is it's appearance once it has set up? Any wet spots or frosting?
  8. I put my labels on hanging grunge tags that I make. I dont like them on the jars. This way they can remove my tag if they want to. It is funny how people spend sooooo much time just smelling and lingering. I have noticed that most people try to allow their products to sell themselves and never speak unless spoken to but whenever someone comes near my table, I engage them in hello's and then go from there. By the end they are walking away with a candle.
  9. Chauna~ No, I was at the show in Fishersville @ Expo Land!!! How did you get into the Harrisonburg show? I tried but they were full and then I was thankful that I did not b/c the drive to Fishersville was far enough for two days.
  10. I can always count on you for help!!!! Thank you!!!
  11. Well for starters I tell them not to fall for the triple scented thing....that wax can only hold but so much fo and that it is just a marketing ploy. I tell them to look for centered wicks and to be careful when buying candles that have what appears to be flammable materials in them. I also suggest that people ask questions.....like how long they have been making candles or what type of wick or wax that they use to see if they are knowledgable of their products. IMO, most craft show chandlers only make candles, accessories and wax related products.....we do not sell jewelry, crocheted items or woodworking. We stick to what we know. Unless they have actual shops and they sell other primitive items that are related to home decor. To me, when I see someone with a variety of stuff that is totally unrelated it screams "I am just trying to make a buck" This person generally is not someone you want to buy a candle from especially since you will be adding fire to it in your home. I have found that I am really judgemental these days of the quality of other folks products. I always ask other candle makers what products they use to make their candles just to see what they say.
  12. The candle pans that have the hook on the side for the electric candles.....I want some of those but cannot find them online. Do you have any suppliers that you know of that have them? Also, the molds that have the embeds on all sides or at least on the front and back. Know anyone who carries them? I am usually really good at finding stuff online but cannot find anything in relation to the supplies I am in need of to make my electric candles so that they remotely resemble the ones that were being sold at my show today.
  13. Try this: http://www.candleandsoapstuff.com/Suppliers_by_State.html You should be able to find a supplier near you with this site. Good luck with your ventures. I chose to go the route of a blend. I buy 50/50 from candle supply by Farmhouse. I buy my fo's from Farmhouse, peaks, tri-state, candlewic, and Bitter creek. You will find what you like from certain suppliers and just go with it. Have fun!
  14. That is what I told people Dani about mine. I was the only one there who had an electric candle on so people could see and smell. I did have people ask if I had the rings and I told them that to me it seemed like a fire hazard and that I was not willing to assist in burning their house down. Also that I did not see the point since the warmth of the bulb illuminated the scent from the candle anyway. There were also people selling the fo oil with the candles so people could just drip the oil on the candle if they wanted extra fo.
  15. Yes, I ran into that this weekend with another lady that was there making candles. Actually there were four of us there that made candles and electric candles. All of them with the exception of me sold tarts as well as another lady there that sold tarts with warmers. Anyway~ This one lady had her candles in the small jelly jars and her wicks were all over the place not to mention the tops were covered with what looked like dirt. I do not have a problem telling people that anyone can throw wax in a jar with a wick and call it a candle. I warn people to be careful and what to look for in a good quality candle before they buy,
  16. I am not supposed to know that my daughter bought me a tart warmer today. So I am excited to see how it works with the tarts I made. Thank you everyone for your help and advice.
  17. Here is the lady's web site that was at my show this weekend. This should take you to the page of the fo ring. http://shops.bcdservices.com/carnationcandles/store/commerce.cgi?product=Candle_Accessories&cart_id=1163274500.93076
  18. Not to be ugly but the question I asked was not what was the difference but the significance???? I totally get the concept. Using tea lights seems like a waste. Anyway~ It is not impossible to not know about all of the other things that people on here do with wax. I have no idea how to make hurricanes or any of the other items that ya'll discuss on this site. Nor have I searched for threads on them b/c I have had no desire to care.
  19. I am sure that there is another name for it but it was this white ring made from air freshner material and they placed it around the light bulb for when the fo loses it strength from the candle itself. You are supposed to add a couple drops of the fo to it and it refreshes the scent. I just thought it seemed more like an added expense and a fire hazard but the lady that was selling them said they had been tested and were safe.
  20. How soon did you put the lids on? Most people wait until the candles have at least set up b4 putting them on. Do they look like snowflakes?? If you have a heat gun just zap them until your tops are smooth then next time leave the lids off and see if that makes a difference.
  21. At my show today there was another lady there selling electric candles and she had these fo rings and extra fo that she was selling with them.......are these necessary? Do any of you use them with yours? I thought they seemed more like a fire hazard.
  22. Not a big deal, I originally thought about it, that is why I asked and then thought better of it after learning a little more..... It is amazing though the amount of people that were buying them from this one lady there but tarts was all she made plus she was selling warmers too. What is the signifigance between the electric ones and the ones you use tea lights with? I mean I know the electric ones save the tea lights but is this not the point?
  23. OMG........I love this stuff!!! I sold out today in everything that I made in Snowy Pine.
  24. The generic stuff at Michaels is how I started out as a learning process only. The stuff you get from there is by no means professional quality ingredients and will not produce you a good quality candle. IMO. It will however help you determine if this is something that you want to pursue. I understand the impatience of wanting to start now but I would suggest buying a kit from one of the online suppliers so you will be able to start off with good quality ingredients and your testing, time and money will not have been in vain. Good Luck.
