  1. Well if you only want to make enough for yourself and friends then I would suggest only melting the amount of wax you will need for the amount of candles you are planning to pour. For instance, I know that a 4 lb vat will pour (6) 16 oz mason jars for me. Are you planning on doing just votives or containers? I am not sure how much wax will pour how many votives but there are others here that will chime in and help if that is what you are going to do. If you are planning to do containers, then what I do with leftover wax is make a layered candle to either keep or give away.
  2. I saw them at Wally world, but I am afraid if I buy one now it will hurt my daughters feelings. Although, I guess I could get one and test my tarts during the day while she is at school and hide it in the evenings so she would not see it.
  3. GREAT JOB!!! It does look taller than the ones I do as well.
  4. Now you tell me ! No wonder I had such a hard time getting those suckers out!!! Although now that I have made 20 or so, they are getting a little easier to get out. Except for the snowman, that one still drives me to drink. Candlemaking and marguaritas are not a great combo. :bump:
  5. Aint waiting fun??? Sounds like you did good for your first venture. You will be addicted once you start with the good stuff. This is just me......I usually do two batchs at once. When ever I pour a different fo, I give it about 3 or 4 days til I know that they are set up and completely cured. It takes time for the fo and the wax to set up (the only word I could think of). Anyway~I test each fo. I pick two candles from each batch and I burn them long enough to get a fmp, this is usually 2 1/2 to 3 hrs depending on the size of my candle. Once I am satisfied....I blow em out, let them set up again and do it again another day to make sure they do the same as before. I make sure that my wicks, wax and fo all do well together. Not all wax, wicks and fo like each other so they do not always work well together. You just have to test and see what you like and what works best for you. This is sometimes more complicated than the norm if you have a problem with one thing or another. Then I will test with fo, without fo, with color, without color.....you get the idea. I am sure if I have forgotten anything.......someone will correct me or add to it.
  6. I think they are all yellow. Have you tried cutting another slit into it? That helped me. Other than what I have told you, I am not sure I have any other suggestions. Although I can tell you that it will get easier next time.
  7. Is your mold from Ginger? Which one do you have? I have the large electic grubby and I usually take the little thing in the middle (the part that is sticking up) and twist that around a couple times to make sure I loosened it and then I turn it over and I put pressure on the middle of the bottom of the mold and then I work my hand in it to pull the top of the candle out or at least loosen it from the mold. OH.... I also cut an extra slit in it to make it easier.....try that. You may have to twist and pull at first but it should come out. Also the first time I used mine, I was ready to send them back, but now it is easier for me to get them out since I have developed a method to the madness.
  8. I only changed it because you brought it to my attention. See that is what I said about the fact that I do not like to go back to edit posts because it confuses people and makes them think you are hiding something.
  9. Yes....I know what a tart is and she WAS talking about the glade scented oil things. Thinking those were what I was talking about making. Personally I do not think those things work, but my Mom loves them. Anyway~ I made a few but I am still waiting to unwrap my Christmas present in the form of a tart warmer to test the ones I made. Simply put, I am keeping them to myself until I decide if I even want to make them to sell at a later date. I have not put a lot of effort into it so right now I am still in the planning stages.
  10. I added to my post plus I followed up on my email to him with there are a lot of people on this site that love it and do not have problems with it???? I should have put that in there to begin with. This is clearly my own thoughts on 4630. BUT I am sure I am not the only one who thinks this wax sucks. But if it helps you....IMO
  11. I had a show this past weekend and the warehouse was really cold and I had no idea they turned off the heat at night so I was thinking that was the reason but I talked to Sherrie @ FH and she said that she gets that with the darker colors. So next time, I will try heating my jars....although they are in my house so they should already be room temp!
  12. There is a difference between being new to this forum and being a newbie to candle making. There is no irony and I did not patronize him!!! Did you read the posts?? I am not the one who jumped on him like fleas at a circus. Poor guy never had a chance. I should have read the entire thread before I quoted. I hate to go back and edit because people think your hiding something.
  13. I am soooo sorry for the offense. The intention was not to speak for everyone, apparently it just came across that way. I meant we as in myself and my friends that I have that are candle makers as well. You seem to really have a problem with the fact that I am new to the forum. I am not sure why this matters.
  14. I used to love the 1275 from C&S until I got a bad batch and got a replacement sent to me in the form of IGI's 4630.....well no matter what I did, I could not get this stuff to not smoke. There are others here who like it and have luck with it. I now use Farmhouse's 50/50 blend. I did not want to switch to a straight soy or a straight paraffin so this gives me the benefits of both. I love the way it burns, I love the way it colors nice but I do not like the frosting that I get on my jars....some say heat your jars so I am going to try that once I start on my next case of wax. I have been busy filling holiday orders of tins and electric candles. What State are you in?
  15. I may have been here for only a month but I have been doing this for a long time and totally understand the precautions that need to be taken before you market a product. By the way....why does the amount of time you have been a member on this forum always come into play? Just because I just joined this site does not mean that I am new by any means to candle making. Had it not been for Donita....I would have never thought to search the internet for a candle forum. I did not read thru the posts to see where it came to an end. I got as far as where I quoted Bruce on the insurancequestion....that is why I went back and edited that.
  16. Let me welcome you to our board of a wonderful blend of folks. We love what we do and we hate to see new folks come in without the thought of protecting themselves and their customers by having insurance. I am sorry we scared you!! BUT it is better to scare you than you burn someones home down, dont ya think??? BTW....I noticed you are using 4630...that is an awful wax with the tendancy to smoke terribly. IMO!!!! There are a lot of folks here that love this wax and it works for them but I hated it. What made you choose that wax?
  17. You know what you missed......the fact that a newbie came on the site talking about how much progress he has made in selling his candles with ONLY 2 months under his belt of experience, research and testing. Beautiful.....The one thing that gets under a lot of folks skin on here is the fact that most of us have spent a LONG time getting to where we are with our business's and we take this very seriously. As I am sure you do too. I have to agree with the rest of my peeps that you have not been making candles long enough to be selling them. You are barely into a testing phase. IMO BUT you are here now and we are happy to have you. BTW.....you will learn when to comment and when to click on another post instead.
  18. Try looking here for a supplier near you.!!!http://www.candleandsoapstuff.com/Suppliers_by_State.html HTH:D
  19. I let a friend know that I was getting into the tart side a little more seriously and she wanted to know if I plan to make them with the tabs?? Or do will they come with the plastic things? Could someone please enlighten me.....is she thinking of glades new scented oil things?
  20. My Mom bought me one and she installed the spigot for me. I just started using it and I do not know how I managed with out it. I still use my pots though to mix color and fo.
  21. To get back on the subject.....Thanks for all of the great ideas!!!! I am leaning toward hurricanes but I think that my husband will kill me if I bring anymore wax related items into our house. He has already threatened to ban me to the basement. (if he can only figure out how to get the stove down there)
  22. Has anyone tried her baked apple or the baked apple from Tri-State?
