  1. Tell me why did you start with soy? I know everyone has a preference but everything I have read on this site there seems to be so many problems associated with the soy. Just my oppinion.....I love the 50/50 blend from Just scents and you can also get it from farmhouse. It is a one pour and it burns clean and the throw is amazing!!!! I also love the heinz core wicks which are the CD's. I do not like the zinc as much because they tend to mushroom a lot. Also with the 50/50 there is no need to re-pour and my tops are always nice and smooth and even! You will get alot of different preferences here but alot of us use the blends.
  2. Ya know the lady that I bought mine from is Sugar Cookie which is a vanilla base, I think? Anyway it smells so good and I cannot believe that she made it with gulf wax. The throw is amazing. It is not oily like the one I made and it actually is a lot bigger. I wish that I knew how to make my own mold. That would make my life a little easier. Gosh, I feel like I am 23 again and learning how to make candles all over again.
  3. They also have them at walmart. Dont know which ones you are looking for but I have seen both the two parts and the all in one there.
  4. I know better than to use cheap wax but I just wanted to try this theory and I used the gulf wax that you can buy at grocery stores. ( I know all of ya'll can save the lectures) I knew that I could not use my 50/50 blend for them so I tried this route. Besides the lady that I bought my electric candle from used this wax to make mine and it is wonderful!!! I dont know however what type of fo's she used. Maybe she used the cheap stuff on that too and since I am using the good stuff it is not working properly?? Who knows.
  5. Try this link....it is all of the online suppliers compiled by State. You can check out their sites and determine which one is closer to save on shipping and who has the best prices. Be sure to check out Farmhouse, justscents, and candlewic too. Personally I like Just scents 50/50 blend and I use CD wicks. Most places sell sampler packs of wicks, I dont think you can get less than a 10 lb slab of wax. I have never seen it but that does not mean it does not exist. 6. Good Luck with your show!!!! You sound like you have the heart to get it done and that is all that it takes along with the patience to test and test and test! Did that sound repetitive? Hmmm. Well I hope you get a good burn with Mr. Snowman, it is no surprise to me that they sell better than Santa. I like snowmen better than santa too! That is just me though. I started another thread asking about the leaking fo's but I only have one candle to base it on. Raggady Dani said that it could be the vanilla based fo and of course that is the fo I used. Go figure.
  7. Dani~ I am batting 1000!!! I will just keep trying.....although it was leaking with the warm vanilla sugar so maybe that is it. Actually that is the only one I have out to be able to judge. I will keep you posted!
  8. I am sooooo going back to making my containers.....I am making the electric candle with straight paraffin and I am using 1 oz pp and the fo is leaking. It is like seaping out of the candles sides and bottom. Weird. UPDATE: I figured out what I was doing wrong!!! I left them overnight vs. 6 hrs or so to set up and they came out looking beautiful with no seaping at all! They are still a biotch to get out!
  9. It seems that some soy wax's do this and here is a thread you may have missed. Try this............. http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21255&highlight=discoloration+wax
  10. Thank you. I will continue to work on it and see if I can get them out without ruining them. Another problem I am having is the fo is leaking out of the candle. I think I am going to stick to containers, much easier.
  11. Well I dont really need an explanation, I have got it covered on that end. I am just wondering how the hell do you get them out? I am afraid that they will tear all the way to the bottom if I push it too hard. How do you get your out without tearing them all the way?
  12. I too have been doing this for about 12 yrs and I have only had issues with C&S with their wax. I love their Baked Apple Pie. I cannot find it that strong anywhere else. I have tried almost everyone's and none make my customers say OMG like this one. I want my Apple Pie to smell better than Home Interior and it does. As for other fo's, I go to justscent, bittercreek, makescents, candlewic and blue moon candles. Sometimes when you place a large order, they box it separately anyway because I also order most of my specialty jars online and those coupled with a couple cases of wax is outrageously heavy. Oh well, I am looking now for jars around my area. There has to some type of suppliers in VA.
  13. I have never heard of that happening but I am not familier with the wax you are using. What color was your wax before it set up?
  14. Thank you so much for all of the helpful info. I totally appreciate it. I have had otehr ppl say to put them in the fridge but I was thinking that when my mason jar candles get cold they crack so I could not imagine that this would work. I am glad I asked b4 I tried that. Out of 2, I managed to get 1 that I can use. I have two more that are curing. How long do you usually wait b4 you attempt to remove them? Sorry to bug ya.
  15. For starters make your testers and use the wicks you have and see how they burn before you go spending more money than you need to. I am not familier with the type of wax or wicks that you are using because I use a 50/50 blend with the CD's but with most waxes that tell you to wick up it really depends. See how it works for you and if you do not get a full mp within the first 3 hrs or if your wick fizzles out then you will at least have something more to go on. hth
  16. I have heard of bcgrayson and her molds! Does she have a website or do you know her prices? I am using straight paraffin and they are impossible to get out. I am having the worst time with them. The thing that makes me the maddest is that I researched on here and talked to ppl about who they liked b/c I heard such horrible stories about soapandcandlemolds.com and flexiblemolds came so highly recommended. I did not think you could use a 50/50 blend with molds like these. Plus, her snowman face is not centered, it is down towards the bottom of the mold so that made it crack coming out. Then they are not as fat as I would like them to be. I cannot ever seem to get what I want these days when I order online. I am not saying that these are bad and by no means want to offend Ginger but I do not understand what I could possibly do to get these out w/out breaking them. DO you put yours in the fridge to set up?
  17. Yea, the large one tore on me too. I just repoured for more and the rubberband is holding them together. I guess they have to have some way to come out. I agree they are a biotch to get out!!! I am really frustrated b/c I thought these would be less of a hassle. Boy, no more thinking here.
  18. Good Luck with that. I have seen a frosty candle at some stores selling for about $25.00 so ya never know what ppl will pay if they absolutely love something. I am really frustrated with these electric candles, I thought they would be a little less hassle than they are. I am having trouble removing them from the molds. The first snow man I did cracked when I pulled it out. So I am starting over. Wish me luck!
  19. It is the snowman electric candle grubby mold. Well this one has a slit all the way down the side and the other large electric mold only has partial slits on each side (like a inch or so) and they are not cut all the way thru the mold. It looks like it may have torn a bit too. I am afraid I wont be able to use it if I try to pull the candle out.
  20. I bought one of the snowmen molds and then a large grubby mold from flexiblemolds.com and the snowman one has a slit all the way thru the mold and down one side. The other mold just has relief slits on each side. Does anyone else have one of the snowmen molds from them and is it cut down one side? I am thinking this was an accident but I am not sure.
  21. I love your colors!!! They are so rich and vibrant looking. You should be proud of yourself. I think those test drive candles are a great concept. I hope you do well.
  22. I use the 50/50 blend and I use CD 14's for my mason jars (16 oz). I sometimes use zinc, but they mushroom so bad that it is not worth the trouble.:highfive:
  23. I will let you know how they do when I actually make some more. I have been busy making electric candles and have not had a chance to do anything else. I have a show tomm. As for the wick solution....where do you live and who do you get your wicks from? I have only them heard them referred to as smalll, medium and large at the craft stores. I use the CD wicks and sometimes zinc from Candlesandsupplies.com
  24. I use CD 14 for 16 oz mason jars although I am not familier with the 70/30. Since the mouth is 3 in and the base of those jars are 4 in. HTH
