  1. I think that some people tell their customers whatever they want to hear these days.......today at my show, there was another lady who was also making candles and she had this really informative flyer about her candles and how soy is safer and healthier than paraffin and that soy candles burns 50 % longer than paraffin candles. She also stated that her candles were 100 % Soy. All of the 100% Soy candles I have ever seen have a different appearance to them and hers looked just like mine. (which are a 50/50 blend) So, I really feel like she was feeding the consumer a load of bull. Plus she used the classic "triple scented". I had my in laws go ask her what she meant by "triple scented" candles and she told them that you were only supposed to use 1/2 oz pp of fo and that she uses 1.5 oz pp of fo and that is how she triple scents her candles.
  2. Merideth................... In all fairness, I had not planned on selling them until I knew what was up. Especially after chatting with folks last night. I did however make a bunch for myself, bought a tart warmer today and talked to some of the people at the show who also make them and I really do not see what is so great about them. JMO.
  3. I think it was the temp in the house on the first floor at night (my hubby turns down the thermostat when we go to bed) but once I moved them up to the third floor, the new ones I poured did not do that..... Do you notice that the 50/50 has more soy traits than paraffin compared to the 1275? The look to me is different. I was really hoping that I would like this wax but I really miss the 1275.
  4. Ring~ There is no reason for you to be nasty.........To clear up your ignorance, I have had no desire to learn, search or care about tarts, tart warmers and all of the cutsie stuff that goes along with them until now. The only thing missing is your lack of tact!
  5. I have been pouring a little warmer than usual because I was in a hurry but even the ones that I waited and poured at a lower temp had some kind of solvable issue. Oh well, I love the way they burn!!!
  6. Try this: http://www.candleandsoapstuff.com/Suppliers_by_State.html
  7. I figured that you needed a tart warmer. I saw a lady at the show when I went to set up today that sells warmers, maybe I will buy one tomm. I guess I will play with them and see what I can come up with. I would never sell something I have not tried and like myself so we will see......
  8. I got the clear round labels at Staples to put on the tops of my mason jars but I was looking for the brown kraft labels too. Thanks.
  9. Thanks, I have never done them b4 but I have a show on Sunday as well. Could I use them by then? I feel so dumb asking these questions since I have been making container candles for yrs! What exactly do you do with tarts?
  10. do you use for tarts? I have left over pillar wax and 50/50 and I wanted to make some tarts for my show tommorow. Can I use either one of these?
  11. I really like the way this 50/50 burns but I do not like the way it looks. It is cracking at the top so I have to smooth out the tops with my heat gun and then it looks fine. They are also pulling up around the wick at the top which is really annoying me!
  12. I have a two day show this weekend and I am actually not looking forward to it. I just do not have it in me to sit all weekend in one place. Anyway.....I set up today and I thought I had plenty of stuff until the lady that runs the show told me that they are expecting over 5000 people to come through this weekend!!!! OMG, I should have made more candles!! Anyway~ I am hoping I will sell out on Saturday so I can stay home on Sunday. Wish me Luck!! Good Luck to all of you this weekend on your shows!!
  13. This is what I thought but it has been yrs since I have fooled with pillars and I could not recall what effect this had. Thanks for the insight.
  14. pillar wax for containers??? I am almost out of 50/50 and I have left over pillars I have melted down for electric candles and I bought some really cute christmas containers today from Michaels and I was going to put the pillar wax into those and b4 I did, just wondering how that would work???
  15. I pour my left over wax into an empty jar and keep toping it off with all my left over wax until it is full and then I have another layered candle to either burn with a wick or under the candle warmer. I never throw wax away.
  16. I love your reality check saying.....I may have to use it on my emails.
  17. Thank you Candlebuddy for the info. I never understand the pouring slow thing but it seems to help. Cleanglow~ I am so glad that yours are doing good now. I think wax has a mind of its own and it works when it wants to. LOL I am really happy with the results!!! I just finished making: snowy pine warm pumpkin crunch cranberry chutney sweet potatoe pie home sweet home My kitchen smells yummy!!!!
  18. I usually pour at 165 to 170 but I tried pouring at a lower temp last night and I got a little better result. So that is what I'll keep doing. I do have a full mp on the mason jar so I am happy that I am not having the same results as cleanglow was having with this wax. My fingers are still crossed!!!
  19. Are you talking about the jars with the red polka dotted tops? If so, Walmart sells them here in VA.
  20. I made some testers yesterday. I have both a 4 oz tin and a 16 oz mason jar burning right now and so far, so good. I have a full mp in the tin and the mason jar is almost there. The one thing that worried me was that this morning they were kinda sunk in the middle a little around the wick. This was par for the course on the bad batch of 1275. The positive thing is that they are not tunneling so I am truly excited.
  21. Welcome Suzy!!! I use and love the soy/paraffin blend from Farmhouse. It is called 50/50 and although every wax has it's faults the one thing I love about the 50/50 is it burns clean. I love that I do not have to add anything to it. It is already there for me just to start making candles! As far as measuring......I am probably different than most on here. I really do not measure my wax because I know that my pots hold 4 lbs of wax. If you have been working all day or even an hour or two you probably have candle nose and cannot smell your tarts. Go outside, sniff some coffee or have your hubby smell the tarts and see if they smell strong enough to him. I wish you luck in both your health and your candle making!
  22. I guess it is different for all suppliers as to what they recommend with their J50. When I hear the wax is crackling it always seems to be that they have gotten water in it somehow. I am glad that is not the case. As for the crisco, I added that to a bad batch per one of the well known and loved suppliers to soften up the hard wax and it just smoked terrible. So I guess different strokes. Good luck!
